NAS Sigonella would like to recognize two winners from the 2022 BGCA National Arts Contest; Danshanel Goss, age 18, and Rosalie Dowdy, age 7.

Danshanel won in the Nature and Surrounding Photography category and Rosalie won in the Collage category (ages 6-9). Congratulations!

Connection to the Body through Breathwork Location: Compass Room Time: 6:00 - 7:30 pm Cost: $40 Register By: September 2 Age: 16+ (Participants 16-18 must be accompanied by an adult) Feeling disconnected from your emotions, your wants, your needs? Then this is the session for you. We will connect with our bodies through breath and learn how to listen to our body's responses. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring water, a journal/notebook, pen, and an eye mask and yoga mat if possible. Additional yoga mats will be provided if needed. For women who are 20+ weeks pregnant, doctor approval is required. Register at Community Recreation by September 2.

Mt. Etna and Milo Wine Festival Depart: NAS II 2:00 pm, Marinai 2:15 pm, NAS I 2:30 pm Return: 12:00 am Cost: $35/$30 Liberty (includes transportation and guide. Bring euro for cable car, food and wine) Mt. Etna: North side or South side? No need to pick on this trip because you’ll get the best of both. Begin the afternoon on the south side of Mt. Etna at Rifugio Sapienza where you’ll have the choice to go up, up, up to 2,500 meters for some spectacular views of the mountain and its craters. Afterwards, we will travel to the north side of Mt Etna for the Milo Wine Festival.

Harvesting at Bastonaca Winery Depart: NAS II 8:30 am, Marinai 8:45 am, NAS I 9:00 am Return: 6:00 pm Cost: $70 (Includes transportation, guide, lunch and entertainment) Join us as we experience a typical day of harvesting grapes with the growers at Bastonaca Winery. Afterward, enjoy a lunch comprised of seasonal foods from harvest and wine from the vineyard.

Lemon Farm, “The Timpa” and Lunch Depart: NAS II 8:30 am, Marinai 8:45 am, NAS I 9:00 am Return: 5:00 pm Cost: $80 (Includes transportation, guide, BBQ lunch and granita) Walk along the Timpa, a natural cliff created from the movement of one of the biggest faults in eastern Sicily. The path we will walk along, was used for centuries by locals, to carry flour and fish to Acireale from the sea of Santa Maria la Scala. See spectacular views of Catania and Taormina along the way. The trip will culminate at a local lemon farm where one of the few granita masters still in existence will teach the group about this delicious specialty of Acireale and treat us with a freshly prepared batch. Lunch will be made from traditional local entrees and sweets. Afterwards you can soak up the sun or dip in the ocean at the beach nearby.

Palermo & Monreale Depart: NAS II 6:30 am, Marinai 6:45 am, NAS I 7:00 am Return: 7:30 pm Cost: $50/$40 Liberty (Includes transportation and guide.

Bring Euro for entrance fees and food) Experience the breathtaking cathedrals of Palermo and Monreale. Palermo's cathedral houses a unique mixture of architectural styles on a grand scale, where you can witness eight periods of art in one single setting. Behold intricate, awe-inspiring Biblical mosaics decorating the nave of Monreale’s cathedral. After the cathedral tours, patrons will have the opportunity to spend some time downtown, where there are plenty of restaurants and shops to explore. There is also a chance to tour the Capuchin Catacombs (entrance fee is approx. €5).

Siracusa Sights: Ortigia Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:15 am, NAS I 8:30 am Return: 6:00 pm Cost: $85 (Includes transportation, guide, fees and lunch) Take in all the sights of Siracusa on this historical walking tour. We’ll first visit the Byzantine Maniace Castle and learn about dashing Norman knights from long ago. Then we’ll visit other key landmarks of Ortigia Island including St. Lucia Catacombs, the Cathedral, the Temple of Athena, the Fontana di Aretusa and the famous painting of Caravaggio.

After the walking tour, we will relax and enjoy lunch at Trattoria Fiorentina. Please choose seafood, meat or vegetarian/vegan meal at the time of registration.

Roman Villas and Gigliotto Winery Depart: NAS II 7:30 am, Marinai 7:45 am, NAS I 8:00 am Return: 6:00 pm Cost: $75 (Includes transportation, guide, entrance fees, lunch and wine tasting) Visit the famous sight of the Roman Villas and hear ancient stories from Sicilian history! See Piazza Armerina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its magnificent 3rd century A.D. mosaic pavements and the Aidone Museum, which is home to ancient artifacts from the surrounding area! When the tour is complete, enjoy a peaceful lunch and wine tasting at the beautiful Gigliotto Winery.

Stand-up paddleboard the marine reserve of Aci Trezza, a wonderful fishing village with three small volcanic islands known as "The Rocks of Cyclops". If needed, our guide will offer instruction in balance, control, paddle strokes and turning techniques.

Hold on as we tour this volcanic valley, viewing everything that makes it so special - explosive craters, volcanic prismatic formation and charming old buildings with vineyards, where Nerello Mascalese (DOC wine) was cultivated before the Greeks arrived in Sicily. This ride will be one for the books! All drivers must have a valid US Driver’s License (equivalent to an Italian B or B1 Motorcycle license).

Milo Hike and Barone di Villagrande Winery Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:15 am, NAS I 8:30 am Return: 5:30 pm Ages: 18+ Cost: $75 Enjoy a 2.5-hour hike through the forests of Milo and visit the century-old Quercus Ilex Oak tree, the remains of the depression that formed the Ox Valley and the old lava flow of the 1982 Mt. Etna eruption.

Afterward, patrons will stop for lunch and a wine tasting at Barone di Villagrande. This century-old winery offers a marvelous terrace overlooking the coast of Riposto all the way up to Taormina.

Summit Mt. Etna Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 6:30 pm Ages: 16+ Cost: $135/$120 Liberty (Includes fees, transportation, and local guides. Bring water and euro for food) Summit Mt. Etna to enjoy the view of Sicily from the top! This 8-hour, round-trip hike will take participants to the summit of Mt. Etna at a height of approximately 3,250 meters (10,725 ft). Due to the nature of the trip, there are a very limited number of spots. Note that the changing conditions on Mt. Etna can affect the route of this hike.
