Time: Weigh-ins at 8:00 am and the events start at 9:00 am at the NAS I Annex Field Sign-up by: October 24th, 2013 Cost: $40 registration fee (includes an event hoodie sweatshirt) Spend half of your life at the gym? Do you like wearing really small shirts? Do you always flex when you look at yourself in the mirror? Then you should show Sigonella what you are… A Strongman! There are 5 categories for this competition, 4 weight classes for men and a women’s category. Medallions will be awarded for first, second and third place at each event and trophies will be given to the first, second and third place overall in each division. The contest is open to ages 18 and over, active duty military, spouses, DOD, local nationals and other European bases. All competitors must sign up and have a registration packet turned in to the NAS I Gym no later than Thursday, October 24th. Celebrate Ottobrata, Zafferana’s biggest event of the year. This Sicilian version of Oktoberfest offers the chance to taste and buy famous Etna honey plus many other local Sicilian specialties! You’ll ride the train ride all around Mt. Etna with a stop in the notable town of Randazzo for lunch. This medieval walled city was devastated in WWII when more than 80% of its houses were destroyed by Allied Forces. *You will walk a bit in Randazzo, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Drive north of Taormina with ITT as we take you behind the scenes of one of the most famous movies featuring Sicily! We will start with a walking tour of the town of Forza d’Agrò, which was featured in Godfather II where young Vito escapes Don Ciccio's men by hiding in a mule's pack. Next we will tour the town of Savoca, which stood in for the town of Corleone in the movies. Savoca features multiple scenes from Godfather I including Bar Vitelli where Michael meets the father of the girl he wishes to marry and San Nicolò, the church where Michael and Appollonia were married.

After our tour, we’ll head to Vasari Vineyard, known as the first to rediscover the Mamertino wine, or “Emperor’s Wine”. Mamertino wine was a favorite of the Emperor Julius Caesar. Outdoor Rec x4777 - x4396 Hike – Rifugio Galvarina
Depart: 9:00 am Return: 5:00 pm Cost: $30 (Includes Sicilian BBQ lunch) We will hike for almost two hours to reach Rifugio Galvarina located on the Northwest side of Mt. Etna. The hike will start along an asphalt road and then continue onto a trail of medium level difficulty. We’ll stop midway through the hike for a Sicilian BBQ at the shelter, Rifugio Galvarina before we head back down again. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water, some snacks to eat along the way, and your camera too. If you don’t have a backpack, don’t worry. Outdoor Recreation will happily rent one to you!
