In order to participate, please enroll in our Youth Program by contacting our CYP Teen Coordinator at cyp_sigonella@eu.navy.mil. Members must be 11 years old and have started the 6th grade to 18 years of age and still in high school.

Artist in Residence Club

Are you interested in learning advanced art techniques?

This club is hosted by Guest Speaker Ms. Emily Kemp, a highly talented local artist and educator. Youth will have the opportunity to create artwork from various categories: printmaking, monochromatic, pastel, airdry clay and more! Registration is required.

Sperlinga, Nicosia & Buffalo Cheese Factory with Beer Tasting

On this walking tour, patrons will have the opportunity to visit the medieval town of Sperlinga and the Norman castle excavated from rocks. Explore the castle built on top of caves that has been inhabited by people since 1080. Climb to the top of the castle and be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding town and countryside. Nicosia’s interesting architecture, both Medieval and Baroque, also offers an impressive number of palaces and churches. This walking tour will be followed by a lunch and 24 Barons beer tasting at the cheese factory, which produces buffalo cheese. Patrons are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Let's explore Salina from its west to east coast! First, we will explore the village of Pollara, the movie site of Il Postino, before stopping for lunch and wine tasting at a local agriturismo. Next, we’ll drive across the island to Lingua, home to the ancient salt pans. We’ll see the lighthouse in the east and enjoy fresh granita from the famous Da Alfredo restaurant, before walking to Santa Marina Salina for departure. Bring comfortable shoes and a bathing suit.

Walnut Festival in Motta Camastra

Motta Camastra is the biggest producer of walnuts in the area. The festival consists of 6 days dedicated to tastings of typical products obtained from the processing of walnuts. Traveling show entertainers and other products well known in the area including cheese, sausages and more will also be featured.

Nebrodi Park is a beautiful natural area, off the beaten path near the northern coast of the island. Hike through the woodlands and explore the waterfall of Catafulco. The water at the base creates a natural pool called Marmitta dei Giganit, or Giant’s Marble. The hike is 4.5 km and will take an estimated 3 - 4 hours. Wear long pants and good hiking boots. Make sure you keep an eye out for the famous Sicilian black pigs! After the hike, enjoy some downtime in the town of Zafferana as they celebrate the Ottobrata Festival. Grab lunch and then go through the extensive number of handmade products, craft booths, and food booths that line the streets.

While on the mountain, our guides will roast chestnuts for you to enjoy in the traditional Sicilian fashion and teach you some new things you may not have known about the wild–growing chestnut trees. Movie on the Field: “Scream” 2022

Location: NAS II Turf Field Time: 7:00 pm Cost: FREE

Do you like scary movies?! Join us on the NAS II Turf field for a scream of a good time. Don't forget to bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

Survive the apocalypse by dodging zombies as they try to steal your flag during a 1.5 mile run! Runners will be given a flag belt at the beginning of the run, starting and ending at the Marinai Community Center. Costumes are highly encouraged and monsters, zombies, and creepy creatures of all ages are welcome! Register at sigzombierun22.eventbrite.it. We are in need of volunteers to be zombie flat snatchers, directional support, and at the water stations. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Fitness Specialist at charitie.gaut@eu.navy.mil.
