Autumn Autumn Fest October 26th – 27th from 4pm – Midnight This year’s Autumn Fest will be bigger and better than ever! There will be food, rides, games and great entertainment both nights. We’ve got plenty of new tricks and treats in store for you!

October 26th We’re kicking off Autumn Fest with our first ever “Run For Your Life” Zombie Run! Runners beware, there are zombies out there!

Pre-order your Run For Your Life Zombie Run t-shirts at NAS I Gym through October 15th. T-shirt pick up will be the day of the run. T-shirts cost $12. To volunteer as a zombie or for more info, please call 624-4301.

Sig’s Got Talent October 26th, 7pm Sigonella’s hottest talent competition is back! Come out and enjoy the show as a diverse group of performers strut their stuff at the Autumn Fest stage. Teen Smart Girls Friday, October 5th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm Girls ages 14 – 18 are invited to join the fun!

The Big Movie Scare

Books to Movies Club Begins Monday, October 1st Join us in the Midtown Classroom from 5pm - 7pm as we begin our journey to answering the ultimate question: Which is better, the movie or the book? Bring a dish to share with the group as we tackle our first session potluck style.

Our first title is Breaking Dawn, part of the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyers, as we prepare for the movie release coming in November.

Space is limited for this event so sign up now. Limited copies of the book will be available for check out. Participants will be provided with free tickets to the premiere of the movie that we read about.

Saturday, October 6th Visit the archeological area of Siracusa, including the ear of Dionysius, the Cordari Cave, the Greek-Roman Amphitheatre and the historic island of Ortigia. Then relax with a boat tour, which will take you along the coast of the town.

St. Alfio & Ottobrata in Zafferana Sunday, October 7th Celebrate Ottobrata, Zafferana’s biggest event of the year. This Sicilian version of Oktoberfest offers the chance to taste and buy famous Etna honey plus many other Sicilian specialties! We’ll also visit St. Alfio, home of Europe’s largest chestnut tree.

Ragusa & Donna Fugata Castle

Monday, October 8th Witness the beauty of Lipari, one of the seven Aeolian Islands. We’ll enjoy a bus tour and views of the sea from a castle. Our stops will include lunch at a local restaurant, and a nice beach. You should have enough time for swimming! This will be a public beach, so bring a towel, swimsuit, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Saturday, October 13th Grab a few friends and enjoy a train ride around Etna with a stop in the historic town of Randazzo for lunch (around 2 hours). The medieval walled city was devastated in WWII when more than 80% of its houses were destroyed by Allied Forces. Wear comfortable shoes.

Enna, Piazza Armerina & Agriturismo Sunday, October 14th Enna is the highest town on the island of Sicily, home of a Norman Castle and beautiful cathedral. We’ll tour the town, have lunch at an Agriturismo, and visit the Imperial Villa del Casale of Piazza Armerina.

Saturday, October 13th Donna Fugata Castle is an imposing structure with origins dating back to the mid-16th Century. We’ll spend time at the castle and relax at a nearby Agriturismo.

Later we will tour the city of Ragusa that hosts a wide array of Baroque architecture, including several stunning palaces and churches in the lower Ibla section and the the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista which is the main monument of Ragusa Superiore.

Cooking Class at Borgo Antico Friday, October 19th Learn how to prepare Sicilian cuisine in the traditional setting of the Borgo Antico Agrituristic Farm in Mineo. The family will welcome you into their home and share their traditional recipes of parmigiana and stuffed peppers. Afterward, enjoy dinner around the fireplace.

Nicosia, Sperlinga Castle & Agriturismo Saturday, October 20th Tour the town of Sperilinga and its Norman castle that was excavated from the rocks in the middle of the forest. Then visit Nicosia, a village famous for the Medieval/Arab shape of the streets. Lunch will be served at Agriturismo Villa Pietralunga, which belongs to the Nicosia Dynasty.

Agrigento: Valley of the Temples & Bagliesi Winery Sunday, October 21st Founded as a Greek colony in the 6th century B.C., Agrigento became one of the leading cities of the Mediterranean world. Situated on the island of Sicily it is universally known for the spectacular Valley of Temples, the sacred area of ancient Akragas, one of the most important colonies of the Greek Empire.

After the tour we will visit the Bagliesi Winery for wine tasting and a light meal.

Then cast your own line to catch other types of fish while we BBQ on the boat.

Weekend on Etna North October 7th – 8th It’s the perfect time of year to view the Milky Way! Watch the October sky with Outdoor Recreation at Etna Park. We will hike for almost 3.5 hours to reach Rifugio Timpa Rossa on the North side of the mountain. We will spend the night there in a small, old Sicilian House supplied with fresh water (no toilet available). This is camping at its best. We will provide a BBQ the first night and American breakfast. Bring everything that you will need to enjoy your overnight in this fantastic natural place. Sleeping bags will be provided.

Remember it will be cold on Mt. Etna, be prepared!
