“LaChelle has gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the closure, LaChelle utilized this time to spring clean the Youth Complex, support fellow staff members in training and lesson planning, launch virtual programs, and manage the CYP Facebook page with compelling content. LaChelle's efforts and dedication have greatly impacted our military members and their families, including this year's NAS Sigonella's Youth of the Year candidate. Additionally, LaChelle spearheaded the first grab-and-go ice cream event for the Youth Complex during the base lockdown. This small initiative had a great impact on the children in Sigonella. Her commitment to giving back has been widely recognized by the Navy CYP headquarters and the Boys and Girls Club of America.”

Siracusa and Seafood Restaurant Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:15 am, NAS I 8:30 am Return: 6:00 pm Cost: $75 (lunch and fees included) Visit the archeological area of Siracusa, built on an ancient Greek settlement. Take in the various sights, including the Ear of Dionysius, the Greek-Roman Amphitheater and the historic island of Ortigia. In Oritgia, we'll visit The Temple of Athena, which is a cathedral built around a Greek structure, as well as the Fontana di Aretusa, which is a freshwater fountain that flows out of a cave toward the sea. After the tour, we'll have lunch at Trattoria Fiorentina. Please choose a seafood, meat, or vegetarian/vegan meal at the time of registration.

The location is world-renowned for the spectacular Valley of Temples and the sacred area of ancient Akragas, which is one of the most important colonies of the Greek Empire. After the tour, we will have lunch at the beautiful Bellavista Restaurant, located on the beach in San Leone.

Godfather Tour and Scilio Winery Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 6:00 pm Cost: $65/$55 Liberty (Lunch, wine tasting, and entrance fees included) You come on our tour on the day my daughter is to be married, and you ask us to drive you around? It’s not as catchy as the original phrase, but we're here to drive you around! Join us for a journey through the catacombs, Vitelli Bar and the church where the infamous wedding scene of The Godfather was filmed. Next, because we're Coppola fans, we’ll head to Castello degli Schiavi where “Il Padrino II” was shot. Afterward, we'll enjoy a late lunch and wine tasting at the Scilio Winery, located in Linguaglossa.

This small fishing village is located on the southeastern coast of Sicily. Enjoy a tour along the coastline followed by a delicious Sicilian BBQ lunch aboard the boat. Bring water, snacks, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and sunglasses.

Join us at the Gambino Winery to do your part. Lucy did it in 1956, but her trip included barefoot stomping in a wooden vat, a grape fight, and an assertive vineyard owner. We just want you to wear comfortable shoes and bring a change of clothes for after the harvesting. The owners are delightful and the food is always delicious! Wine tasting is part of the lunch, of course.

Orange/Olive Harvest and Sicilian Liquor Tasting Depart: NAS II 9:00 am, Marinai 9:15 am, NAS I 9:30 am Return: 4:30 pm Cost: $40 (Includes harvesting, wine tasting, guide, and lunch) Imagine it: you’re standing at a table in an orange grove surrounded by the smells and sights of Sicily in the fall. There are people bicycling through paths planted hundreds of years ago and you’ve just been handed another sample of a new Sicilian liquor to accompany your homemade BBQ lunch. This trip offers an inside perspective on the harvest season of olives and oranges by a local family. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and if the timing is right, you might go home with a bag of oranges you picked yourself.

Catafulco Waterfalls Hike or Bike Depart: NAS II 6:30 am, Marinai 6:45 am, NAS I 7:00 am Return: 7:00 pm Cost: $35 (Bring a packed lunch and euro for snacks) Nebrodi Park is a beautiful natural area, off the beaten path near the northern coast of the island. Hike through woodlands and explore the waterfall of Catafulco. There, the water at the base creates a natural pool called Marmitta dei Giganit, or Giant’s Marble. This trip is at least 4.5 km and will take an estimated 3 - 4 hours if hiking. Wear long pants, good hiking boots and make sure you keep an eye out for the famous Sicilian black pigs! Enjoy some down time in town for a late lunch/early dinner.

Mojo Crater and Tornatore Agriturismo Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:15 am, NAS I 8:30 am Return: 7:00 pm Ages: 12+ Cost: $60 (Includes transportation, guide, and lunch) Ancient and modern, outdoor and inside; this tour offers the best of both worlds! We'll start the day with a hike from Mojo Crater to ruins of Byzantine Churches (600 A.D.) and the Alkantara River. You can choose to walk along the river, or better yet, even dip your toes in! After the hike, the modern Tornatore Agriturismo and Winery will provide lunch made from homemade macaroni, local cheeses, homemade sweets, and of course, wine. If you’re interested, bring euro to purchase vino to take home.

Chestnut Expedition and Roasting Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 5:00 pm Cost: $45 Ages 12+/Free Ages 11 and under (Includes chestnuts, guide, transportation & BBQ) Bring a reusable bag, old grocery sack, pillowcase or even a backpack and join us on Mount Etna! Chestnut season will be in full swing and we'll take this opportunity to get you into the forest to forage for your very own supply. While on the mountain, our guides will roast chestnuts for you to enjoy in the traditional Sicilian fashion and teach you some new things you may not have known about the wild-growing chestnut trees. Patrons are also able to participate in a hike during this expedition, so please wear your boots and some clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Noto/Eloro and Vendicari Hike and Ramaddini Winery Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 6:30 pm Ages: 12+ Cost: $60 (Includes transportation, guide, wine tasting and lunch) Enjoy a historical hike through the archeological sites of the Eloro seashore. You'll encounter the Roman Villa Tellaro, the Greek Colonna Pizzuta and remains still intact from WWII. Be prepared to cross a river with waterproof boots and bring a change of socks. You won’t want soggy feet while you enjoy wine and lunch at the Ramaddini Winery. This winery, well known for their Nero d'Avola grapes, is located in historical wine warehouses all tucked away in a beautiful vineyard.

Sperlinga, Nicosia, & Buffalo/Cheese factory with beer tatsing Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 7:00 pm Cost: $65 (Transportation, lunch, cheese tasting, guides entrance fees are included) The medieval town of Sperlinga, located in central Sicily, is home to a Norman castle which was built on top of ancient caves. During this trip, guests will be able to climb to the top of the castle and be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding town and countryside. Nicosia’s interesting architecture, both Medieval and Baroque, also offers an impressive number of palaces, churches, and in the winter, a popular nativity scene. This walking tour will be followed by a lovely lunch at the cheese factory with a beer tasting included. Bring euro to purchase the beers you liked from the sampling and for any additional snacks you may want. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes for this tour.
