Holiday Card Design Contest Have you ever wanted to design your own holiday card?

If so, then now is your chance! Since many of us may not be able to visit family or gather with friends this year, this may be the perfect time to get creative with how we keep in touch. This November, the MWR Library will host a Holiday Card Design Contest to help everyone get inspired. Simply pick up an official entry form and a blank card at the library, then return your submission to the library by November 13th for a chance to win.

Winners will receive 20 cards printed with their own design! Entries will be on display from November 16 – 20 for public voting.

Mountain Bike Etna Park – Galvarina Shelter with Sicilian BBQ Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:15 am, NAS I 8:30 am Return: 6:00 pm Age: 16+ Cost: $55 (Includes bike, guides and transportation and BBQ) Spend the day in Etna Park riding from Serra La Nave to the Galvarina Shelter. There will be 4 to 5 hours of riding on this challenging and strenuous trail. Bring water, snacks, and euro.

Lava Hike & Gambino Winery Tour Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:30 am, NAS I 8:45 am Return: 5:00 pm Age: 18+ Cost: $60 (Includes transportation, naturalist guide, lunch, and wine tasting) Enjoy a hike through the woods surrounding the Gambino Winery. This is a great way to see the western side of Mount Etna and the lava flow from 2002. A tour of the winery will follow and will provide you with a better understanding of the local natural environment and what it can offer to the community. An autumn-themed menu will be featured during lunch and will include fresh tagliatelle pasta, a selection of meat and of course, wine.

Taormina Stairs to Madonna della Rocca Hike Depart: NAS II 7:30 am, Marinai 7:45 am, NAS I 8:00 am Return: 4:00 pm Cost: $25 (Bring euro for food and shopping) Ascend more than 1,000 stairs for spectacular views of Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea. The hike will start at the lovely Isola Bella, continue through Taormina and end at the Madonna della Rocca, perched on the hilltop town of Castelmola. There will be free time to explore Taormina during the middle of the hike and the opportunity to sit down for a well-earned dinner in Castelmola. Wear comfortable shoes as this is a walking and a stair-climbing tour.

Hike Lamponi Cave Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:15 am, NAS I 8:30 am Return: 6:00 pm Age: 16+ Cost: $45/$35 Liberty (Includes transportation, guide, and lunch) Spend the day on the north side of Mount Etna hiking from Rifugio Brunick to Timpa Rossa with a final destination of the Lamponi Caves. To help break up the hike, please enjoy a light BBQ lunch at the TImparossa shelter. This strenuous hike offers a full day filled with amazing Etna sights and experiences.

Summit Mount Etna Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 6:30 pm Age: 16+ Cost: $135 (Includes fees, transportation, and local guides. Bring water and euro for food) Summit Mount Etna and enjoy the view of Sicily from the top! This 8-hour, round-trip hike will take you to the summit of Mount Etna, where you will reach heights of approximately 3,250 meters (10,725 ft). Due to the nature of the trip, there are a very limited number spots.

Catania Fishing Trip Depart: NAS II 5:30 am, Marinai 5:45 am, NAS 6:00 am Return: 3:00 pm Age: 16+ Cost: $120 (Includes transportation, breakfast, fishing equipment and guide) On this tour designed for anglers, you’ll fish in waters up to 50 meters deep with an experienced fisherman. Bring light layers, a jacket to keep dry, water and some snacks. If you want to purchase more food, bring euro. Due to limited space, seats are extremely limited.

Wine Trekking: Milo Hike and Barone di Villagrande Winery Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, Marinai 8:15 am, NAS I 8:30 am Return: 5:30 pm Age: 18+ Cost: $65 (Includes transportation, naturalist guide, wine tasting, and lunch) Enjoy a pleasant hike in the forests of Milo, visit the century-old Quercus ilex Oak tree, and walk along the remains of the depression that formed the Ox Valley. The duration of the hike is about 2.5 hours. You'll see an old lava flow from the Mount Etna eruption of 1982 on this hike. Afterward, we'll stop for wine tasting and lunch at Barone di Villagrande, a century-old winery with a beautiful terrace overlooking the coastline of Riposto and Taormina.
