In order to participate, please enroll in our Youth Program by contacting our CYP Teen Coordinator at cyp_sigonella@eu.navy.mil. Members must be 11 years old and have started the 6th grade to 18 years of age and still in high school.

This club is hosted by Guest Speaker Ms. Emily Kemp, a highly talented local artist and educator. Youth will have the opportunity to create artwork from various categories: printmaking, monochromatic, pastel, airdry clay and more! Registration is required. This opportunity will be every Wednesday (course instruction) and Friday (open studio) in November.

Let's celebrate the Month of the Military Family by getting together to design ceramic tiles using paint, markers, stencils, and decoupage. With 80 kilometers of tunnels, this walking tour of the Salt Mine will take you back almost 5 million years! Participants will have the opportunity to visit an area of this still active mine where the Italkali Company has created a Contemporary Art Museum. The second stop of this walking tour will be Petralia Soprana, voted as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy in 2018 and located in the province of Palermo. Walk along the Timpa, a natural cliff created from the movement of one of the biggest faults in eastern Sicily. The path we will walk along was used for centuries by locals, to carry flour and fish to Acireale from the sea of Santa Maria la Scala. See spectacular views of Catania and Taormina along the way. Olive Harvesting & Oil Production in Sortino Depart: NAS II 7:30 am, Marinai 7:45 am, NAS I 8:00 am

Spend a unique day harvesting olives in the area of the Sortino Oil Mill. While there, you will have 40 minutes to pick your own olives and with them, learn how the mill makes oil (the farm offers you .25cl of oil from what you picked – extra cost for more). A light Sicilian lunch will be served on the farm once harvesting is complete. Please wear appropriate shoes for walking and being in the fields.

The Palaghiaccio will play host to the annual Tattoo Convention in Catania. This year the event will host even more tattoo artists of national and international importance and offer sales of supplies, books, accessories and clothing. Expect special exhibitions, seminars and live music.

Think back to 1833. Light pollution in America wasn’t really an issue. Joseph Harvey Waggoner was making his way from Florida to New Orleans when he witnessed the sky falling. Hundreds of thousands of meteors per hour were seen that infamous night. That was Leonidi. Caused by debris from the Tempel-Tuttle Comet, now on days at its peak, you can see about 20 meteors per hour. Enjoy the view that thousands have seen through the centuries at Borgo Antico Agriturismo. The staff there will feed you some of the best food on the island and an astrophysicist will be on hand with a telescope for viewing.

Hike Ispica Caves

Return: 5:00 pm Ages: 12+ Cost: $50 (Includes transportation, local guide and light lunch) The Ispica Caves, hand-carved out of the canyon, were inhabited from 2000 BC through the 20th Century in the Hyblean Mountains. Tour this paradise of rock, sun and Mediterranean vegetation as you descend the canyon to the ancient village along the Busaitone River. Along the way, keep your eyes open for clues to how the inhabitants lived. Finish the day at a rustic farmhouse where a light lunch of local cheese, wine and other specialties await.

Join us for a hike through the forested slopes of Mt. Etna North (Mt Sartorius). This trip is easy to moderate intensity and children must be able to hike trail terrain for 1-2 hours (2.5/ 3 miles). See one of the oldest conifer forests in Sicily, with trees from 200-300 years old, and seven of Etna’s extinct volcanic craters all in one hike! Afterward, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Remember to bring water, snacks and layered clothes.

Discover Alkantara Valley like never before on 4-wheels! Hold on as we tour this volcanic valley, viewing everything that makes it so special - explosive craters, volcanic prismatic formation and charming old buildings with vineyards, where Nerello Mascalese (DOC wine) was cultivated before the Greeks arrived in Sicily. Are you ready to tackle Mt. Etna? Join us as we ascend 3000 meters (or more) up the mountain to enjoy the view of Sicily! This 8-hour, round-trip hike will take participants to the maximum hiking threshold based on the daily condition of volcanic activity. Due to the nature of the trip, there are a very limited number of spots.
Milazzo Natural Reserve Hike and “Pane Cunzatu”

Enjoy a scenic walk filled with history and spectacular views on this tour! Our first stop is at the Norman Castle in the town of Milazzo, followed by a stroll through the natural reserve of Capo Milazzo. Afterward, patrons will continue down to Venus Lake and the cliffside fisherman’s village. Following the walking tour, we will make a pit stop at a local Sicilian bar for the typical bread and olive oil and more of a light lunch.
