Saturday, November 10th Spend the day in the area of Mazzarone, which is famous for grapes and olive oil production. We will visit “Frantoio” where olives oil is produced and taste the oil. We will also see them harvest the famous table grape of Mazzarone and visit the Silvestri Castle. Wine tasting and lunch will be in the famous Agriturismo of Makatarion.

Siracusa, Seafood Restaurant & Boat Tour Sunday, November 4th Visit the archeological area of Siracusa, including the ear of Dionysius, the Cordari Cave, the Greek-Roman Amphitheatre and the historic island of Ortigia. We’ll have lunch at a seafood restaurant and relax with a boat tour, which will take you along the coast of the town.

Saturday, November 10th Grab a few friends and enjoy a train ride around Etna with a stop in historic Randazzo for lunch. The medieval walled city was devastated in WWII when more than 80 percent of its houses were destroyed by Allied Forces.

Vasari Vineyard Tour Sunday, November 11th Take a sip of history at Vasari Vineyard.

Forty years ago, this farm became the first to rediscover the Mamertino wine. This ancient wine was recorded as far back as 289 B.C. It was the favorite of Emperor Julius Caesar, who offered it at banquets and celebrations. There will be a guided tour of the Arab-Norman Castle, the Cathedral, the Diocesan Museum, the town of Milazzo and the winery that dates back to 1700.

Alcantara Gorge & Russo Winery Sunday, November 18th See this fantastic gorge also known as Godfather valley because it has been used as a filming location for the Godfather as well as other American and Italian movies.

We will take a guided tour of Alcantara Gorge Park, including the cold river and the valley, and enjoy wine tasting and lunch at Russo Winery.

Agrigento: Valley of the Temples & Bagliesi Winery Friday, November 23rd Founded as a Greek colony in the 6th century B.C., Agrigento became one of the leading cities of the Mediterranean world. The area is universally known for the spectacular Valley of Temples and the sacred area of ancient Akragas, one of the most important colonies of the Greek Empire. After the tour we will visit the Bagliesi Winery for wine tasting and a light meal.

Sunday, November 25th We will take a walking tour of Forza D'Agrò, which has been featured as the backdrop in a number of films, such as The Godfather.

In Savoca we’ll visit Bar Vitelli where Michael Corleone met Apollonia’s father and the church where he and Apollonia were married in Francis Ford Coppola’s famous film.

Sunday, December 2nd Visit the quaint town of Castelbuono, famous for its castle and good restaurants.

We will have lunch there and then head to the beautiful coastal city of Cefalú to see the Cathedral, Lungomare, and the Medieval Washhouse.

Messina and Tindari Saturday, December 1st Visit Messina and its 12th century Cathedral containing the remains of King Conrad, ruler of Germany and Sicily in the 13th century.

The building had to be almost entirely rebuilt in 1919-1920 after the devastating 1908 earthquake. It is also home to one of the largest astronomical clocks in the world, built in 1933 by the Ungerer Company of Strasburg. We will also go to Tindari known for its cherished Black Madonna.

Saturday, November 3rd It’s your chance to skydive in Sicily! We will take you to Palermo, where you can tandem jump with Skydive Sicilia. We take off from Ragusa (Baia Samuele) Airport. You bring the courage, we’ll provide the transportation and reservations for your jump!

Saturday, November 10th Spend San Martino in Mineo at the country home of Mariska and Emilio. We will open a new wine barrel to taste the fresh wine and prepare a traditional San Martino meal, including sausages, meat, salad, chestnuts, dessert and coffee.

Then cast your own line to catch other types of fish while we BBQ on the boat.

Hike the Top of Mt. Etna Saturday, November 4th Hike the top of Etna, the highest and more active volcano of Europe. The Outdoor Rec team will show you some natural geological points of interest. We will hike for 9 to 10 hours round trip. This is a very difficult hike.

Bring your hiking shoes, pack lunch, water and a jacket because it’s cold at 9,500 feet!

Simeto River Mountain Bike Saturday, November 17th Join us for a mountain bike ride along Simeto River, which is the main river of Sicily. We will bike for 3 or 4 hours and finish in the natural reserve of Simeto River. We should see some migratory birds coming from North Europe, including the flamingo and many others. We provide the gear and transportation. If you wish to bring your own bike, we will transport it for you on our bike trailer. Bring plenty of water and snacks.

Bike Catania by Night Friday, November 23rd Spend an evening touring the city of Catania by bike. We are going to see ruins dating back to 400BC, including the Greek and Roman Amphitheaters, Ursino Castle, and one of the largest monasteries in Europe. We’ll stop at a restaurant for dinner after the tour. We provide the gear and transportation. If you wish to bring your own bike, we will transport it for you on our bike trailer.

Depart: ITT 4:00pm Return: Midnight $40 includes dinner. $30 if you have your own bike.

Noto Kayak & Nature Reserve Saturday, November 10th Paddle the Southeastern Ionian coast along the rocky and sandy shores. Then stop in Vendicari nature reserve to explore the preserved surroundings of flora and fauna.

We may see herons, flamingos, storks and more. This is the right time of year to watch the migratory birds coming from North Europe. If the sea is too rough we will just go around the nature reserve. Bring a snack.

Depart: ITT 8:00am Return: 5:00pm $40 includes transportation, kayak and lifejacket.

Full Moon Kayak Piano dei Grilli Hike with BBQ Saturday, November 24th This excursion will cover a 7.5 mile/12km trail around the northwest Mt. Etna area.

This is an exceptional way to experience the mountain’s springtime flora and fauna, with highlights such as pistachio groves and lava clearing. We will stop during the hike to have a typical Sicilian BBQ. A suggested gear list will be provided at registration.

Depart: ITT 7:00am Return: 5:00pm $35. Children 2 – 14 are free.

Wednesday, November 28th Spend the evening with Outdoor Rec. We will depart from Catania and paddle about 2 hours to Aci Trezza, the town of the Cyclops. When we arrive in Aci Trezza, you will have time for dinner in one of the many restaurants in this small fishing village.
