SENIOR EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER | Q2 Macky Vellon Special Event Coordinator During Macky’s short tenure with MWR Sigonella she has been an exceptional addition to the Community Recreation and MWR team. Macky is the epitome of a team player, and will tackle any tasks or obstacles with a “can-do” attitude to accomplish the mission and provide outstanding new and existing events for the community. In the past 6 months, Macky has planned and executed 14 large scale special events for the Sigonella community, of which 2 were brand new, while simultaneously improving and streamlining internal processes for both special events and training. She has jumped in wholeheartedly and revitalized MWR’s special events through her knowledge, passion and hard work, and we sincerely appreciate her commitment and accomplishments. Lemon Farm Hike and Lunch Easy Depart: NAS II 8:30 am, Marinai 8:45 am, NAS I 9:00 am Return: 5:00 pm Cost: $80 (Includes transportation, guide, BBQ lunch and granita) Hike along the Timpa, a natural cliff created from the movement of one of the biggest faults in eastern Sicily. The trail, where we will walk along, was used for centuries by locals, to carry flour and fish to Acireale from the sea of Santa Maria la Scala. The path is an easy 2km hike with spectacular views of Catania and Taormina. The trip will culminate at a local lemon farm where one of the few Granita Masters still in existence will teach the group about this delicious specialty of Acireale and treat us with a freshly prepared batch. Lunch will be made from traditional local entrees and sweets.

Wine and Jazz on the Green Location: Marinai Time: 5:00 - 10:00 pm Ages: All Sigonella is presenting its first-ever "Wine and Jazz on the Green" event on May 21. Family and friends are invited to set up your blanket, sit back and enjoy the sweet sounds of jazz! This event will feature private organizations, food vendors, wine vendors and a variety of live jazz bands. As a special incentive for our Sigonella youth, this event will also feature two bounce houses. This event is open to all DoD and NATO ID cardholders with regular access to Marinai. No registration is necessary to attend.
