Circumetnea Train Adventure and Randazzo Walking Tour

Depart: NAS I 6:30 am, Marinai 6:45 am, NAS II 7:00 am Return: 4:30 pm

Cost: $40 (Includes transportation, guide, and train ticket. Bring 20 euro for food) Get ready for some fabulous views of Mt. Etna when you board the Circumetnea Train. Ride the train all around Mt. Etna with a stop in the historic town of Randazzo for a 2.5-hour walking tour. This medieval walled city was devastated in WWII when more than 80% of its houses were destroyed by Allied Forces.

Siracusa and Seafood Restaurant

Visit the archeological site of Siracusa, built on an ancient Greek settlement and the historic island of Ortigia! Along the tour, we will have an opportunity to see the Ear of Dionysius, the Greek-Roman Amphitheater, the Siracusa Cathedral, the Temple of Athena and the mythological Fontana di Aretusa. Lunch at a local restaurant will follow the tour. Please choose the seafood, meat, or vegetarian/vegan meal at the time of registration.

Elijah has wonderful interactions with our theater patrons on a day to day basis. He lives by the "M" in MWR and strives to ensure everyone is happy at the theater whether it be with concessions, cleanliness or the movie experience as a whole. He is flexible and available when needed for special events and birthday parties and is incredibly reliable. Elijah is an essential team member at our MWR theater with an uplifting personality. Ragusa & Donna Fugata Castle

The tour will begin at Donna Fugata Castle, an imposing structure with origins dating back to the mid-16th Century, after which the group will pause for a lunch break at the trattoria located just in front of the castle. After our meal, patrons will tour the city of Ragusa which plays host to a wide array of Baroque architecture and several stunning palaces and churches in the lower Ibla section, including the Cathedral.

Agrigento: Valley of the Temples & Lunch

Originally founded as a Greek colony in the 6th century B.C., Agrigento became one of the leading cities in the Mediterranean world. The town of Agrigento is known for its spectacular Valley of Temples and the sacred area of ancient Akragas which is one of the most important colonies of the Greek Empire. Join us for a tour of Agrigento's Valley of the Temples, followed by lunch at a local restaurant in San Leone Beach. Please choose between the meat or fish option upon registration.

Palazzolo Acreide and St Peter Festival

Return: 7:30 pm Cost: $65 (Includes transportation, guide and lunch)

Join the traditional religious festival that celebrates St. Peter, the Patron Saint of Palazzolo Acreide. Important throughout history, due to its strategic position in the Siracusa Province, Palazzolo Acreide has fine examples of baroque architecture, important historical sites and cultural site. In the afternoon, relax at the La Trota restaurant for lunch. This restaurant specializes in fresh fish that has been raised in their own private ponds. Choose between meat or fish when you register for the trip. This trip needs a minimum of 15 people and the deadline to register is June 23.

Sperlinga, Nicosia & Buffalo Cheese Factory with beer tasting

Cost: $75 (Includes transportation, guide, entrance fees, lunch, beer and cheese tasting) Ages: 18+

This walking tour visits the medieval town of Sperlinga and the Norman castle excavated from rocks. Explore the castle, built on top of caves, that has been inhabited by people since 1080. Climb to the top of the castle and be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding town and countryside. Nicosia’s interesting architecture, both Medieval and Baroque, also offers an impressive number of palaces and churches. This walking tour will be followed by a lunch and 24 Barons beer tasting at the cheese factory, which produces buffalo cheese. Patrons are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes.
