JUNIOR EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH | FEBRUARY 2022 Silvana Zappalà Fitness Recreation Assistant MWR Fitness is incredibly thankful for Silvana’s assistance with the successful launch of the NAS I and NAS II Unmanned Fitness Centers. Without Silvana, we would not have had such a successful and smooth transition as we rolled out our 24-hour gym access to our Sigonella community members. Even when we faced potential delays due to an unexpected issue, Silvana showcased her commitment to excellence. She worked tirelessly alongside a local contractor to provide translation services on behalf of MWR as well as recommend solutions for how to implement facility repairs to ensure an on-time launch. Silvana is an essential part of the Fitness staff and was especially vital to our team last month as we launched both Unmanned Fitness Centers. Lemon Farm Hike and Lunch Depart: NAS II 8:30 am, Marinai 8:45 am, NAS I 9:00 am Return: 5:00 pm Cost: $80 (Includes transportation, guide, BBQ lunch and granita) Hike along the Timpa, a natural cliff created from the movement of one of the biggest faults in eastern Sicily. The trail, where we will walk along, was used for centuries by locals, to carry flour and fish to Acireale from the sea of Santa Maria la Scala. The path is an easy 2km hike with spectacular views of Catania and Taormina. The trip will culminate at a local lemon farm where one of the few Granita Masters still in existence will teach the group about this delicious specialty of Acireale and treat us with a freshly prepared batch. Lunch will be made from traditional local entrees and sweets.

This class offers patrons the opportunity to become certified in WSET, Level 1. This class will entail a professional Sommelier teaching patrons about wine, including the styles of wine, a systematic approach to tasting wine, the characteristics of the common grape varieties and how to properly pair wine with food.

Putt-Putt Preview With SAPR Location: Galley Time: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Cost: FREE Liberty and SAPR host fun, one-minute challenges outside of the Galley. Spin the SAPR Wheel to decide "What would you do" in certain situations. Then you have 60 seconds to complete a fun challenge for prizes!
Ortigia Night Trip Depart: NAS II 5:00 pm, NAS I 5:15 pm Return: 11:00 pm Cost: $10 Join us on an adventure to Ortigia! Liberty-eligible patrons will have time to explore the location on their own. Catania Market Shuttle Depart: NAS II 7:30 am, NAS I 7:45 am Return: 12:00 pm Cost: $10 Find all sorts of great deals at the Catania Markets! Liberty-eligible patrons can hitch a ride to and from Catania to get some market shopping in. Be sure to bring your own bag and have Euro on hand. Please note, this trip has limited availability, so be sure to head to the Liberty Center to reserve a spot before April 1!

LNT Hike Necropoli Pantalica Depart: NAS II 8:00 am, NAS I 8:15 am Return: 4:00 pm Cost: $10 Join us on a day trip through time as we hike through the Necropoli! Along the way, learn about Leave No Trace Environmental Ethics (LNT) from a Master Educator while taking in the beautiful views. This is an easy, but enjoyable hike with an interesting history. Please note, this trip has limited availability, so be sure to head to the Liberty Center to reserve a seat before April 2!
