Mountain Bike Simeto River Depart: NAS II 10:00 am, Marinai 10:15 am, NAS I 10:30 am Return: 5:00 pm Ages: 16+ Cost: $40 (Includes transportation, gear, BBQ and guide) Enjoy a flat, 23-mile ride along the Simeto River, the main river of Sicily. This day trip will begin near NAS I and end at the Simeto River Natural Reserve. This natural oasis offers a rare chance to see migrating birds, including flamingos on their route to Africa. This trip will take approximately 4 hours to complete, with a break for a typical Sicilian BBQ. Wear clothes that can get dirty, and be sure to bring water and snacks.
Hike Lamponi Cave Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 6:00 pm Ages: 16+ Cost: $45 (Includes transportation, guide, and lunch) Community Recreation will take patrons on a guided hike from Rifugio Brunnick to Timpa Rossa. Our final destination on this strenuous hike will end at Lamponi Cave, which offers breathtaking views of a lava tube. To help break up this challenging hike, patrons will take a break at a Timparossa shelter to enjoy a light BBQ picnic lunch.

Summit Mt. Etna Depart: NAS II 7:00 am, Marinai 7:15 am, NAS I 7:30 am Return: 6:30 pm Ages: 16+ Cost: $135/Liberty $120 (Includes fees, transportation, and local guides. Bring water and euro for food) Summit Mt. Etna and enjoy the view of Sicily from the top! This 8-hour, round-trip hike will take you to the top of Mt. Etna, where you will reach heights of approximately 3,250 meters (10,725 ft). Due to the nature of this trip, there are a very limited number of spots available. Please bring water and euro for food.

Enjoy a moderately challenging day with Community Recreation on crystal clear waters with a view that is to die for. Be sure to bring water, euro for a light lunch, sunscreen, a hat, and water shoes.

Taormina Stairs to Madonna della Rocca by Day Depart: NAS II 7:30 am, Marinai 7:45 am, NAS I 8:00 am Return: 4:00 pm Cost: $25/Liberty $20 (Bring euro for food and shopping) Ascend more than 1,000 stairs for spectacular views of Mt. Etna and the Ionian Sea. This hike will start near the beautiful Isola Bella, continue through the town of Taormina, and end at the Madonna della Rocca, perched on the hilltop town of Castelmola. During the middle of the hike, there will be free time to explore Taormina and the opportunity to sit down for a well-earned meal in Castelmola. Wear comfortable shoes as this is a walking/stair-climbing tour.

Jessica Pennington Water Safety Instructor - Aquatics Jessica Pennington has been an amazing asset to the NAS Sigonella Aquatics team. During her time here, she has helped plan and manage multiple aquatics events such as the Pumpkin Splash. Additionally, Jessica has partnered with other MWR teams, including Liberty, to offer programming tailored for our single and unaccompanied sailors. This past year, Jessica has also been essential in helping plan virtual events to promote water fitness, such as our Sigonella Swim Tip Series, launching this April. Keep an eye out for all the great programming Jessica has planned for our Sigonella community this summer, including a Friday Night Flick 'n Float Series.
