Teen Programs

In order to participate, please enroll in our Youth Program by coming into the Youth Complex or calling 624-1750 for more information. Members must be 11 years old and have started the 6th grade to 18 years of age and still in high school.

Artist in Residence Club Location: Youth Complex Time: 4:00 - 5:30 pm This month’s art will celebrate the Month of the Military Child. Come join Ms. Maddie to make friendship bracelets, use the military child’s color, purple, to create monochrome art and make a handprint collage while learning about the different places your peers have lived!

4-H Cooking Club Location: Youth Complex Time: 5:00 - 6:00 pm Sharpen your cooking skills and make a variety of foods at the Youth Complex every Thursday. This month we will have Cooking Club in collaboration with our Thursday Family Events. We will be making Ice cream for the ice cream bar, setting up a popcorn bar, getting creative with a trail mix blend, and cooking breakfast for our families to indulge in!

ALL MONTH

Mindfulness with Coloring Relax at the library with some quiet coloring. As with meditation, mindfulness coloring allows you to switch off extraneous thoughts and focus on the moment. Pages will be available for all ages.

Month of the Military Child: Kids Climbing Session Location: "The Cave" Rockwall Time: 2:00 - 4:00 pm Ages: 5+ Cost: FREE (Pre-Registration is Required) Celebrate Month of the Military Child with Community Recreation during one of our kids-only climbing sessions. Our staff will teach the basics of climbing including how to properly warm-up, safely climb and effective techniques for successful climbing. No experience is necessary; we will require at least one parent to be present throughout the class. Please register at Community Recreation by the day before the class.

This 10 km coastline, offers natural and WWII historical experiences, as well as well-known agro-food companies. Following the hike, we will stop in Ortigia for street food.

Mojo Crater, Alcantara River and Cotta Nera Winery Depart:NAS II 7:30 am, Marinai 7:45 am, NAS I 8:00 am Return: 7:00 pm Cost: $70 (Includes transportation, guide, wine tasting and lunch) Start the day with a hike from Mojo Crater to the ruins of Byzantine Churches (600 A.D.) and the Alcantara River. Choose to walk along the river, or better yet, dip your toes in! After the hike, the modern Cotta Nera Winery will provide lunch made from homemade pasta, local cheeses, sweets, and of course, wine.

Introduction to Mountain Biking Class Depart: NAS I 4:00 pm Return: 5:00 pm Cost: $20 (Includes instruction, guide and gear) This hour-long instruction covers everything from the different kinds of mountain bikes to basic maintenance and techniques for riding. The class begins at the Community Recreation Office on NAS I and patrons can practice riding around different isolated areas on the base.

Salina Island Walking Tour Depart: NAS II 5:00 am, Marinai 5:15 am, NAS I 5:30 am Return: 9:30 pm Cost: $115 (Includes transportation, guide, ferry fees, Malvasia tasting and lunch) Enjoy the naturalistic side of Salina Island, the greenest of the Aeolian Archipelago, with a tasty twist! Hike the beautiful and panoramic trail immersed in Mediterranean flora with views of the neighboring islands of Filicudi and Alicudi. During this two-hour trek, refuel with delicious Malvasia wine and local biscuits. Following the hike, enjoy a wine tasting and BBQ lunch at Cantine D'Amico.

Quad Tour on Mt Etna Depart: NAS II 7:30 am, Marinai 7:45 am, NAS I 8:00 am Return: 4:00 pm Cost: $120 (Includes transportation, guide, quad fees for 2 hours and lunch) Discover Etna like never before - on 4-wheels! Hold on as we tour the south side of Etna by quad, viewing everything that makes her so special explosive craters and caves, lava flows, charming old buildings and expansive green forests. This ride will be one for the books! Please note, all drivers must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License. (The equivalent of an Italian B or B1 Motorcycle license). All quads will be double occupancy.
