Chartered in 1956, the Millwrights Union Local 2736 has proudly built and maintained the infrastructure that keeps British Columbia running, representing more than 600 Red Seal Millwrights, Apprentices, and Welders across the province.
From hydro turbines to mining conveyors, pulp mills to refineries, our members are the precision tradespeople trusted to assemble, install, maintain, and repair the machinery that powers B.C.
We are part of the Millwright Regional Council of Canada (MRC), representing thousands of Millwrights nationwide. This network gives our contractors access to a highly skilled, safetycertified workforce supported by industry-leading training, strong partnerships, and stable labour relations.

Job Ready Dispatch (JRD)
Every Millwright we dispatch comes certified through our Job Ready Dispatch program, which ensures compliance with WorkSafeBC standards and gives employers instant access to members’ safety certifications
All members must hold valid tickets in:
Confined Space Entry – Safe entry, work, and rescue procefures in confined enivronment
Fall Protection – Working safely at heights and on elevated systems
Mobile Elevating Work Platform – Type 3, Group A & B – Boom lifts and scissor lifts
SiteReadyBC or CSTS 2020 – Site orientation, hazard awareness, and W.H.M.I.S. training
With over 600 Millwrights across B.C., and thousands more across Canada, we supply the manpower you need for projects of any size – from small maintenance crews and large industrail shutdowns, to megaprojects like Site C or LNG
Our dispatch system ensures you get the workers you need, when you need them, for as long as you need them. Through our partnerships with other Locals across Canada, we are able to provide extra manpower on an as needed basis.
By signing with Local 2736, you gain the stability of Collective Agreements negotiated through the Construction Labour Relations Association of BC (CLRA) This reduces the risks of labour disputes and ensures your project demands are met.

In addition to mandatory Job Ready Dispatch (JRD) safety requirements, Local 2736 maintains access to advanced technical and OEM-specific training. Additional advanced certifications available within our workforce include:
Forklift (Class 1, 4, 5) & Rough Terrain Telehandler (Class 7)
Certified operators trained in safe material handling and equipment maneuvering in industrial environments.
Overhead Crane Operator
Rigging, signaling, and safe crane operation for controlled lifts and precision placements.
CWB Welding Training & Testing - CSA W47.1
SMAW, GMAW (MIG), FCAW, and GTAW (TIG) processes for structural and industrial applications
Certified Rigger & Lift Director Programs
Advanced rigging qualifications including internationally accredited certifications (NCAA) meeting CSA, OSHA, and ANSI standards. Ensures safe execution of critical and complex lifts.
Machinery & Laser Alignment
Training in precision shaft alignment, soft foot correction, reverse dial, rim & face, and laser alignment techniques to reduce downtime and improve equipment longevity.
Optical & Survey Layout (Builders Level, Transit & Total Station)
Advanced field layout and elevation control for accurate equipment and structural installation.
OEM & Specialized Equipment Training

When you need manpower, our dispatch office provides a single point of contact for quick access to qualified Millwrights.
Journeypersons & Apprentices – Supplied through an established out-of-work system that ensures availability, fairness, and consistent manpower flow
Registered Apprenticeship Program – Apprentices complete a minimum of 6,360 on-thejob hours, 840 hours of technical training, and an Interprovincial exam, prior to Red Seal certification. All apprentices are registered with SkilledTradesBC and monitored by Local 2736 to maintain consistent standards
National Workforce Access – As part of the Millwright Regional Council of Canada, Local 2736 can access qualified millwrights from locals across Canada to support large-scale or peak manpower demands
Name Requests – Contractors may name request up to 50% of the required workforce for a job, allowing continuity of crews on longer or specialized projects
Contractors can expect skilled, reliable, safety-oriented tradespeople on every dispatch

The Millwrights Union Local 2736 operates under a Standard Collective Agreement that provides contractors with clear, consistent, and predictable labour terms.
A current Collective Agreement and Wage Package outlining wage rates, employer contributions, and applicable allowances will be provided in a separate document

Wage Classifications – Established rates for journeypersons, forepersons, general forepersons, and apprentices
Apprenticeship Progression – Progressive wage structure tied to apprenticeship advancement and skill development

Travel & Living Out Allowance (LOA) – Standardized travel and subsistence provisions where applicable
Apprentice Ratios – Balanced ratios that support workforce development while maintaining productivity
