This has been a defining year for our Local. We completed major long-term projects such as Site C and LNG Canada, strengthened our position in maintenance work, and continued building opportunities across the province. Our training programs expanded, our apprentices advanced, and our Local grew stronger through new bylaws, improved benefits, and ongoing bargaining preparation.

Miro Maras BUSINESS MANAGER
It’s always an honour to reflect on another year of professional workmanship delivered by our Brothers and Sisters, work that keeps our province moving forward every single day
We begin by recognizing our Brothers who will not be with their families this year Please take a moment to honour our past President, Joe Jukic, Brothers Eric Solvason, Donald Spivak and George Kefalas
From monumental projects like the historic $40billion LNG Canada development to the scale of Site C Dam, our members’ contributions have earned attention across the globe and set a benchmark for professionalism Beyond these major undertakings, our crews have been instrumental on the Amazon facility in Burnaby, the Westshore Potash conversion, the Broadway Corridor Subway project, and countless shutdowns both scheduled and emergency Big or small, routine or high-pressure, Millwrights Local 2736 members show up, deliver, and keep industries running. This reliability is a cornerstone of our year-round employment.
Following an intense period of major project work, many members naturally wonder what lies ahead. I want to assure you that we have been working hard behind the scenes to secure meaningful opportunities for the future.

Negotiations are underway Member proposals gathered earlier this year have shaped our direction at the bargaining table Fourteen trade unions met in September and October to finalize both main table and trade-level proposals impacting 48 collective agreements and more than 45,000 tradespeople under the BC Building Trades
Our agreement expires April 30, 2026, at midnight In the last round, we reached a recommended settlement on May 3rd at 11:45 p.m., securing a 19.5% wage increase and major language improvements. Members should again be prepared for the possibility of work interruptions this is a normal part of bargaining
The CLRA has submitted eight Millwright Trade Level Proposals, (See Attached Link). These were escalated to the Main Table by the BCBCBTU to ensure unity and collective strength across all affiliates We have 42 bargaining days reserved between January 15 and April 30
The strategy remains consistent: solidarity, unity, and collective strength to protect our trade and secure the best outcomes possible

I am incredibly proud of all our apprentices and new journeypersons Over the past year, we have seen remarkable progress in their skills, confidence, and overall development as future leaders of our trade Whether they are in their first year learning the fundamentals, or approaching their final year and preparing for the IP exam, the dedication has been evident on every jobsite and in every classroom. The effort being put into mastering our craft reflects not only on our apprentices and new journeypersons, but on Millwrights Union Local 2736 as a whole
Our apprenticeship program continues to grow stronger because of our apprentice’s commitment to showing up, learning, and taking pride in the work they do. They have demonstrated resilience through challenges, professionalism in their conduct, and a willingness to learn from the experienced journeypersons who mentor them These qualities are what sets strong millwrights apart, and you are all well on your way to becoming the next generation of highly skilled tradespeople this Local can depend on
Keep up the excellent work, stay curious, ask questions, and take every opportunity to build your knowledge and technical ability. I genuinely look forward to the day when many of you will step into leadership roles within Millwrights Union Local 2736 and start leading crews, mentoring apprentices of your own, and continuing the strong traditions of our trade
As we move into the second year of the Job Ready Dispatch (JRD) program, members are required to hold key certifications, including Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), and either SiteREADY BC with WHMIS 2015 or CSTS 2020 with WHMIS 2015. I want to acknowledge the time and commitment our members have shown in completing these requirements. Whether training was completed at our facility, on the job, or through approved third-party providers, your efforts to stay qualified and dispatch-ready demonstrate the strong work ethic of Millwrights Local Union 2736
If you have not yet completed your JRD certifications, please be aware that outstanding requirements may affect your eligibility for dispatch. I encourage you to contact the office as soon as possible so we can assist in scheduling the necessary training and help ensure you are prepared for upcoming opportunities
Thank you to everyone who attended training at the Delta Training Centre, the International Training Centre, and at locations throughout the province. While only a limited number of out-oftown training sessions were delivered this past year, expanding access to regional training remains an important priority as we move into 2026
Your future is bright, and we are proud to support you every step of the way.

So far this year, we have issued more than 300 certifications, an achievement that reflects the commitment of our members and the strength of our training program as we move into 2026.
I would like to further clarify how LOA (Living Out Allowance) applies to training Members may be eligible for LOA when attending training at the Delta Training Centre or when training is delivered in their area by a union instructor, provided the member resides outside the free zone outlined in the collective agreement.
The Lower Mainland free zone extends from Charles Creek, just south of Lions Bay, to the 264th Street exit in Aldergrove. A map clearly outlining these boundaries can be found in your collective agreement, both online and in the printed booklet
Members living beyond the 264th Street boundary up to Annis Road in Chilliwack are entitled to mileage reimbursement at a rate of $0.72 per kilometer, calculated from the residential address we have on file to the 264th Street boundary Members who reside beyond the Annis Road boundary are eligible for a daily LOA of $200 00 Members living beyond Charles Creek are entitled to mileage reimbursement at $0.72 per kilometer, calculated from their address on file Please note that LOA is only paid upon successful completion of the required course(s)
I would also like to extend my appreciation to our administrative team, Celeste and Jessica. Their work managing course registrations, scheduling, communication, and logistics has allowed the training program to run smoothly and has enabled me to stay focused on teaching Their contribution this year has been tremendous and truly appreciated.
Last year, I shared that the Canadian District had applied for funding to support the development of specialized training programs centered around Green Energy initiatives I am proud to announce that the Canadian District has now been approved to move forward with this clean energy training initiative.
As part of this commitment, the Canadian District will be creating virtual reality (VR) training modules for Millwrights These modules will simulate hands-on work with turbines used in both hydroelectric and wind power generation. In addition, our Training Centre will be equipped with the necessary tools, technology, and hardware to deliver this new VR-based learning As courses and training opportunities roll out, we will share updates with the membership
Alongside this work, enhancing the technical abilities and professional qualifications of our members remains a key priority, just as vital as our safety and equipment training We are currently in the process of acquiring the equipment needed to provide instruction in several core millwright competencies.
The areas we are focusing on include:
• Machinery Alignment
• Pumps
• Bearings
• Belt Drive Systems
• Gear Drives
• Optical Alignment
These training courses are designed to strengthen the members ability to perform essential tasks using modern tools, updated procedures, and current industry best practices By continuing to build these competencies, we aim to ensure our members are prepared to meet the evolving needs of industry and maintain the high standards expected of Millwrights Local Union 2736.

The United Brotherhood of Carpenters has moved away from printed textbooks and is transitioning fully to a Learning Management System (LMS), where all course materials and textbooks will now be provided in digital format This change allows members to access up-to-date training content anytime and anywhere To use the LMS, members are required to download the UBC mobile app, which is available through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by searching “UBC Mobile App.” Once downloaded, open the app and follow the prompts to create a account using your UBC ID number and th email address on file with the union After you account is set up, you will have access to all you assigned courses and digital textbooks through the LMS. The app also allows you to view your training history and certifications, as the UBC has discontinued issuing the physical TVC training card This move ensures your training records are always accessible and securely stored in one place.
The Carpenter’s Department of Education (DET) programs are held at the UBC’s International Training Center (ITC), a world-class training and education facility The ITC delivers training to develop technical, personal, and leadership skills to our members Below you will find the dates for the 3 Year Apprentice and Journeyperson Programs. If you are interested, please contact Carey Simpson at the office for further information. rd

The 2025 UBC National Apprentice Competition, an event showcasing the skills of apprentices across all UBC trades, was held this year in Edmonton, Alberta This competition brought together millwright apprentices from across Canada to demonstrate their abilities in layout, machinery installation, machinery alignment using dial indicators, and a comprehensive written exam.
Due to the competition structure, which limits each trade to only six competitors, Millwrights Local Union 2736 did not have a participant in this year ’ s event
However, our Local was still represented. I had the opportunity to serve as a judge alongside former Local 2736 member and current Local 1460 member, Rebecca (Becky) Thompson. The competitors delivered an exceptionally strong performance, and the professionalism and skill displayed throughout the event reaffirmed that the future of the millwright trade is in very capable hands
Congratulations to all the competitors, and thank you to the host city of Edmonton, as well as the staff and members of Millwrights Local Union 1460 for organizing a memorable and well-run 2025 National Apprentice Competition
Results:
1st – Brad Nicholas, Local 1916 (Hamilton, ON)
2nd – Kelly Gillis, Local 2309 (North York, ON)
3rd – Michael Geib, Local 1021 (Saskatoon, SK)
Looking ahead, the 2026 National Apprentice Competition will take place in Toronto, Ontario, in November 2026 Competitors must be in their final year of apprenticeship or within 12 months of receiving their Journeyperson Ticket by the date of the event If you meet the eligibility requirements and are interested in representing Millwrights Union Local 2736, please contact the office for further details.
Moving from one event to the next, the 2025 Skills BC competition was held on April 16 at Tradex in Abbotsford Although we did not have a competitor representing Millwrights Local Union 2736 this year, I’m optimistic that we will have strong representation in 2026. Next year ’ s Skills BC competition is scheduled for April 15, 2026, again at Tradex in Abbotsford. The winner of the provincial event will advance to Skills Canada to represent the millwright trade at the national level
On the topic of Skills Canada, I had the opportunity to serve as one of the judges for this year ’ s national competition. The two-day event tested a wide range of millwright skills, including blueprint reading, fluid power, ISO schematic interpretation, precision layout, precision fitting, hand-tool and hand-drill use, mechanical component installation, centrifugal pump disassembly and reassembly, MIG welding and fabrication, stainless-steel tube bending, predictive maintenance, and laser shaft alignment using the Fixturlaser SMC and NXA Pro.
If you are interested in representing Millwrights Local Union 2736 at the 2026 Skills BC competition, please contact the office for further details.

Many of you may already know that over the past several years, we ’ ve partnered with SkillPlan to offer our members tutoring support for their technical training levels, as well as guidance in preparing for the Millwright Interprovincial (IP) exam. This is an important resource, and we ’ re proud to provide it to our members at no cost.
If you ’ re looking for assistance with your coursework, preparing for your Red Seal exam, or simply want more information on how to access SkillPlan’s services, please feel free to reach out We’re here to help ensure you have the support you need to succeed
Finding qualified Journeyperson and Apprentice Millwrights is not always an easy task That is one of the reasons Millwrights Local 2736 has continued to support the Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) Canada Program This national, not-forprofit organization helps connect serving, transitioning, and former military members with careers in construction and related industries

Helmets to Hardhats is recognized across Canada as a trusted pathway into the skilled trades for those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Through strong partnerships with Building Trades Unions and industry employers, H2H provides registrants with access to good wages, benefits, and meaningful employment opportunities. The program is endorsed by Veterans Affairs Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces, and all 14 Building Trades Unions, underscoring its value and credibility.
I want to extend my sincere appreciation to all past and present members of the Canadian Military. Your commitment and service to our country do not go unnoticed, and we are proud to back initiatives like H2H that support your transition into stable, rewarding careers within our trade.

In recent years, we have asked our Journeypersons to complete evaluation reports on apprentices. These assessments play an important role in monitoring the development of both apprentices and permit apprentices, ensuring we continue to uphold the high standards expected of Millwrights Local 2736. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has taken the time to fill out these reports. Your input directly contributes to the strength and success of our training program.
If you have any questions or need clarification on any training or apprenticeship related matters, please feel free to reach out to me at the office during regular hours or email me at csimpson@ubcmillwrights.ca
As we wrap up the year, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Thank you for your ongoing dedication and hard work I am looking forward to another productive and successful year ahead!

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to everyone in the Local 2736 Family!
I hope you are enjoying your down time with your family, friends and loved ones in warm and joyful environments.
As we reflect upon this year let’s also take some time to reflect on our Brothers, Sisters, family and friends that are no longer with us and that life is precious and to enjoy every day to the fullest
The theme of my newsletter last year was growth, this year ’ s theme is change. This was cemented at the MRC AGM in Edmonton November 22, 2025.
“If we don’t change or adapt, we perish” – EST Mark Beardsworth
Change, alter, transition, paradigm shift, adapt, modify…all words for change. This for Millwrights should come naturally as this is what Millwrights do best when on the job, when faced with challenges, adversity, broken parts or tools Millwrights step-up to get the job done
We continue to identify the needs and challenges of the future to be ready to pivot when that change happens We continually look for new ways to organize contractors, clients and members.
We must find new efficiencies in our operations We must find new training methods We must continually look for ways to improve for our industry partners and most importantly for you the members!
Change is here, more change is coming, we need to accept that and roll with it when it comes Change is always in our sites.
We expected January to hit with big dispatch numbers to both Amazon and West Shore. Both jobs were set to kick off in the Lower Mainland simultaneously, at least that was the plan. We weren't sure if we needed to recruit to support these two jobs as Site C and LNG Canada were slowly cutting back meaning members would soon be available It's a hard call to make as we need to support the contractor but also need to balance membership numbers to keep the hours up amongst the active members From a supply point of view we have had members available to complete the work Westshore and Amazon both finally kicked off much later than first expected allowing opportunities for laid off Site C and LNG members, however not in the numbers that we expected We have managed to support the contractors while not taking on a significant amount of new members this year.
Members working steady at Heidelberg Materials formerly Lehigh Cement have been locked out since this January so having them available when Pivot ramped up at Amazon was a perfect fit. Maintaining your membership while working for a steady employer has its benefits!
This project was a resounding success for Local 2736 and officially all construction Millwrights were done on November 1, 2025. 276 Millwrights amassed 575,000+ hours over 5 years! Everyone that contributed should be proud of the legacy you ' ve helped to build The Millwright Team was specifically recognized for having excellent safety statistics with only 14 safety incidents over those hours-amazing work!Local 2736 gained so much experience, members, hours, relationships and respect. Local 2736 now has the capacity to complete this work scope in the future. We need to keep it! Looking forward to continuing the solid partnership with Waiward Gitga'at long into the future for the maintenance of this facility As for Phase II, we are hearing it has strong support however it still requires a Final Investment Decision – FID prior to ordering the modules and planning the work The FID is expected to come in early 2026 (not guaranteed) and Millwrights could hope to be onsite to execute the installation starting early in 2028 once the modules arrive should a signatory contractor be awarded the work. Lets hope a positive decision comes soon and in our favor!
Finally the beast is complete This is another great accomplishment for Local 2736 having had such a pivotal hand in this project. The main scope was Gates and Guides and Turbine and Generators which was handled by AFDE and Voith respectively Many people don't know the peril the project was in mid-way through both technically and politically, had Local 2736 and our members not step-up and execute when we did, BC may not have that power station today. To see it get completed this year with such a talented team, many of which are new local area members says a lot about who and what 2736 is

We are continuously trying to improve our Political relationships. I am always working to meet with MPs and MLAs when I travel throughout the Province to develop the relationships necessary to further our cause So far, I've met with current MLAs in the ridings of Castlegar, Ft St John, Kamloops, New Westminster, Sea to Sky and Vancouver If you have access to an MLA or MP that can help support us towards Compulsory Trade Certification, Jobsite Daycare Centers and Tax Fraud initiatives please get in touch with the office. Any members wishing to be more politically active can get in touch and I'll help guide you on our political-action approach

In January we attended the BC Natural Resources Forum in Prince George as a team, including MRC Dir. Bus. Dev. Ben Jonas, Local 2736 Dispatcher Alex Leiper and myself. It's an event that the Premier and his ministers attend, high level corporate executives and industry partners, an excellent opportunity to promote Millwrights 2736 and the MRC brand We recognize the importance of being there and plan to make this an annual event to attend. While in Prince George we also taught a Level II Stewards course.
April saw Local 2736 return to Ft St John for the 49th Annual Trade Fair making this the 2nd straight year we have been at the event Shoutout to Alaura Jaggernath for helping me staff the booth. It’s definitely not a “strong hold” area for 2736 but it's gaining ground due to Site C Dam as we now have about 20 members in the area This means that in the future 2736 can properly support a local contractor with qualified Millwrights that know and trust each other that can be an effective team. We are expecting some big news from the area in 2026.
Organizing is a term for gathering more share of the industry meaning members working hours under the Union banner Members earning wages and contributing pensionable hours is what it's all about. EVERY member is an organizer. EVERY member is a business card for themselves AND the Union We all succeed and fail together and when members put forth their goodwill it's recognized Individually you may not recognize the power we each have to make a good impression on someone, sadly the bad impressions are longer lasting and harder to dispel I am so proud when I hear of the many positive interactions people have with members of Local 2736 This is what every member should strive to accomplish, this alone will help ALL of our cause. We strive to improve and maintain our relationships with industry partners so when issues arise we can act quickly.
One tool we use to help organize is inviting contractors to the ITC to see the environment that we use to train our members Touring the ITC helps showcase what separates us from the competition. Often that is the key that helps secure the deal If you know of a contractor that might be a suitable fit and would benefit from a tour please get in touch with me
Another organizing tool is the Unite Campaign which is a UBC initiative aimed to improve our “bottom up ” strategies. Get in touch if you ’ re interested in supporting this initiative
This program has been utilized in Ontario with huge success. It’s a partnership between the Client, MRC, Build-a-Dream, and a local community or underrepresented group that the client is wanting to engage with We are implementing this strategy for the Highland Valley Copper MLE project should our contractors succeed with a contract award This program once up and running in BC will help bridge the gap between clients and the local community by supporting underrepresented groups with education and opportunities to fasttrack screened candidates to enter the Millwright trade, earn their Red Seal Certificate and become bonafide members of Local 2736 This program has gained instant recognition for what it aims to do and I believe will be the difference for organizing in the future This program helps to open doors and start conversations we would previously be challenged to have.
During the summer a partnership was formed between the MRC and Regional Staffing Solutions - RSS The Millwright Locals of the MRC will supply Millwrights to RSS just as they would another contractor but only in locations or situations that our traditional signatory contractors are not. For example, a plant needs 1 millwright for a week to cover a Short Term Disability. The client would reach out to RSS who would contact us for a MW and Local 2736 would do our best to supply RSS is just like the contractor, however they are only providing the Millwright and his tools Members taking dispatches for RSS would understand that wages and benefits would remain the same as their standard collective agreement while certain conditions may not, like a specific lunchroom trailer or tool lockup for example. So far RSS has placed 5 Millwrights at 4 different locations for short term work with one placement lasting possibly 2-12 months Going forward members that wish to be considered for RSS placements need to be interviewed, screened, and possibly attend more training based on the client's needs.
RSS is a relationship in progress and will continue to evolve as the challenges are worked out. The end goal of this partnership is to increase working hours and work opportunities for our members. RSS is already proving to be an excellent solution for some clients, I expect the future growth in working hours for 2736 to be substantial
I want to thank everyone that has taken the Level II in-person Stewards Course. I really enjoy teaching and interacting during the session and helping you to level-up as Stewards! Taking the course, increasing your knowledge and skills and a willingness to do the job shows you are leaders Effective Job Stewards are so vital to our cause Having knowledgeable and competent Stewards can change the course of a job from failing to success Having a Steward that is in-tune with the job, scope, members, jurisdiction, and workplace/industry politics can mean the difference in so many ways. Since inception of the program we have taught almost 75 members Going forward we are only appointing Stewards that have taken the course I plan to provide 6 courses in 2026, please get in touch if you want to attend The MRC has gotten on board and taken our lead with this as per the Training Report from the MRC AGM. The MRC is planning a national Steward Course roll out next year with our course and resource materials as the template Having every member trained as a Steward is the long-term goal as this will make our team in the field that much stronger, knowledgeable, and unified to handle the issues that come up during an outage or project

I remain optimistic that the new year will bring new opportunities. We have a few projects that we are watching and waiting for.
Fortis LNG in Delta has been in the works for quite some time, awaiting environmental and regulatory reviews which seem to be lining up for a possibility to kick off in 2026
TECK with the Mine Life Extension project at Highland Valley Copper is expected to have a start in April. TECK held a local area hiring event at Nicola Valley Institute of Technology at the same time as the MRC AGM, so Executive Committee member Trustee Alex Leclair attended in my place and apparently had an excellent weekend fielding nonstop questions I want to personally thank Alex for stepping up and taking the opportunity to represent Local 2736 at a very important event. We expect the project award to be announced soon.
Neptune Terminals is expected to have a major project with it’s B2D2 project TBD
BC Hydro has Bridge River and Revelstoke refurbishments on the list of major refurbishments as well as adding a turbine at Revelstoke. TBD
I hope that all you work and plan for comes to you and that your family and loved ones do well, are happy and healthy
I look forward to seeing you at the meetings on the job sites and in the Steward classes as well as taking your calls as we all push forward together trying to make this the best Millwrights Union Local that we can. I wish you all a happy festive Christmas and prosperous 2026!

Brothers and Sisters,
As we wrap up another year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families for a Merry Christmas and a safe, relaxing holiday season This year has brought a lot of change, a lot of hard work, and a lot to be proud of for the members of Millwrights Local 2736
2025 was a landmark year for our Local We saw the completion of two of the largest projects in our recent history Site C and LNGC Kitimat. These jobs pushed all of us, and once again our members proved exactly what 2736 Millwrights are known for: skill, professionalism, and integrity on every jobsite The quality of work you all delivered earned respect across the industry and reinforced our reputation as a highly skilled, safe, and reliable workforce
Even with project wind-downs and a challenging economy, our members stayed resilient. As of November 28th, we dispatched 1,307 members in 2025, with 402,465 31 total hours worked (January–October) By comparison, 2024 saw 1,803 dispatches and 674,508 44 hours These shifts reflect the natural transition that comes when major projects wrap up, but they also show the strength and readiness of our membership as we move toward the next cycle of work.
This past year also brought expanded opportunities for me to support our members across Northern B C I’ve been active throughout the region meeting with contractors, handling

site issues, attending major industry events, hosting career outreach, and increasing our overall presence With our new office located directly inside the Terrace Airport, members have been able to stop in as they travel, making it easier to connect, get support, and stay updated
I’ve been working hard to strengthen relationships in the North and expand opportunities for our members, and I’m hopeful for the chance to continue that work as the Northern Business Representative for Millwrights Union Local 2736 My experience as Dispatcher, Vice President of the Executive Board, and Trustee on our Pension and Health & Welfare Plans has given me a strong foundation in member advocacy, governance, and contractor engagement. I’m committed to using that experience to keep building opportunity, representation, and growth for our members across Northern B C

As we look ahead to 2026, Millwrights can expect a strong shutdown season across both B C and Alberta, with major work scheduled at Harmac, Peace River, Howe Sound, Skookumchuck, Cariboo, Celgar, and more Several of these shutdowns run for multiple weeks such as Alberta-Pacific, Peace River, Skookumchuck, and International Paper which will bring solid opportunities for travel, hours, and sustained employment Members are encouraged to ensure their fall protection, confined space, and AWP certifications are up to date so they’re ready when these calls are dispatched
As Dispatcher I was selected to participate in the testing phase of the new MRC Dispatch System, which is expected to roll out in the new year. This new platform is designed to make things easier for both members and Locals allowing members to accept jobs more efficiently, track their certifications, and maintain accurate records of training and qualifications It’s a significant step forward, and I’m committed to helping ensure that our Local is ready to benefit from it on day one.

On top of that, we ’ ve also introduced a new way of communicating MRC open calls through our texting platform, Prompt io Members who are signed in on the available board now receive faster, more direct notifications for out-ofprovince work opportunities. This ensures that our members have the quickest access possible to available calls, helping get people dispatched sooner and improving our ability to support work across Canada
As we head into the holiday season, I hope you ’ re able to rest, recharge, and spend time with the people who matter most. On behalf of myself, the Executive Board, and everyone here at the Hall thank you for your hard work, your professionalism, and your continued pride in being a 2736 Millwright
Wishing you all a safe, warm, and joyful Christmas season, and a strong and prosperous New Year ahead.
In Solidarity, Alex Leiper
