Dear Class of 2021, Welcome to Mounds View, the place you will call home for the next four years. From Harry Potter fanatic to wide receiver extraordinaire, Mounds View has a place for everyone, but it’s up to you to explore and find yours. So be involved, go to a couple of football games and school plays, join as many extracurriculars as you want to and enjoy your newfound freedom. During your time at Mounds View, you’ll meet a variety of people. Some will try to put you down while others will support you through high school and beyond. You may even find a few lifelong friends. That being said, don’t worry too much about how other people see you. Mounds View offers various classes with different subjects and difficulty levels. Because of this, the rigor of your schedule will be largely up to you. Definitely challenge yourself and take classes that interest you, but don’t do so at the expense of your sleep or social life—the most important A’s are Amigos. There might be some days where you feel down or confused, but remember that your deans, teachers and mentors will always have your back. Don’t be afraid to reach out and talk to somebody, we care! As you start this exciting new chapter in your life, remember that no matter what your goals and dreams are, if you work hard enough, you can achieve them! Sincerely, The Viewer Staff

Speak to your friends by Diana Zhu news editor Glossophobia. Stage fright. Speech anxiety. Regardless of what you call it, the fear of public speaking affects every 3 out of 4 people. If you are one of these people, join Mounds View Speech. Not only does the team overcome this fear—they conquer it. High school speech is a competitive activity in which students enter in one or more of 13 categories to perform a speech for the judges. With multiple categories, ranging from Prose to Humorous Interpretation, there is something for everyone.
In addition to providing opportunities for students to develop their public speaking skills, Speech offers a welcoming and inclusive environment. With pre-meet carbo-loads, weekly meetings and various warmups, the team has a strong bond and is like a family. “You will not only be ‘speeching’ with, but also partying, dancing, singing, and laughing with [teammates],” said Nandini Avula, 12, one of the 2017-18 speech captains. If you’re interested in joining Speech, visit the Mounds View Speech website at moundsviewspeech.weebly.com or contact any of four captains: Emily Su, 12; Nandini Avula, 12; Liza Vinyon, 12; and Aman Rao, 12.

Bruggers has been married to her husband Tom, a Phy Ed teacher at Coon Rapids High school, for 17 years. They have three sons: Joey (14), Michael and Sam (10)—and a dog named Caroline. Before coming to the Mounds View School District, she was a part of the Wayzata High School District for three years and Osseo Area School District for 13 years. “My high school social studies teacher was what drew me to education. I was never fond of the subject before and he had brought that subject alive for me in a way that had never been done before,” she said. When she got to college
“I am a MV grad of 2003. I absolutely love being a Mustang and a part of such a special group of people. My wife’s name is Abby and she is my favorite person in the world. I have coached many sports including golf, baseball, hockey and
and it was time to pick a major, it was a combination of her passion and wanting to help kids, the way her teacher did, that led her to choose a degree in education. Bruggers wants the incoming class to know they are part of a very special community and hopes they will build onto it. “I want [the incoming] freshman class to know how we treat each other in this building—we are welcoming, respectful and inclusive. We all believe this is what makes Mounds View special and can’t wait for them to be [a] part of the community.” She strongly believes that listening to others is the most important characteristic in being a successful principal, so she is always open for new ideas and encourages the incoming freshman to reach out to her with any questions or concerns about their experience at Mounds View.

Your map of Manhattan
This is the paddock. It’s a relatively recent addition to Mounds View, and it was designed to be a quiet workspace for students.
The auditorium is home to school plays, class meetings and many other events and ceremonies. The music wing is home to the band, choir and orchestra rooms, as well as practice rooms to hone your musical talents. In the front gym you’ll find many varsity sports and other events. Basketball games, volleyball games and the Physics Fair all happen here.
The upper commons is similar to the lower commons, but it’s used more in between periods.
The Viewer room is the most important room in the building. This is where the Viewer is made.
Mounds View’s cafeteria has many options when it comes to food. There are three normal lunch lines and two a-lacarte lines. The lower commons is one of the most popular places for students to hang out before and after school. It’s good for socializing, but bad for working, because of its lack of tables.
The library is an ideal space to work, socialize or buy a coffee. It has computers and ample seating.
The basement is home to many classes and freshman lockers.
