"In the same way Christ calls us to each other in community, He calls us to embrace the broader world, to engage the world and share the love of Christ."

Since I’ve been at Mount Vernon, I’ve spent a lot of time exploring and learning about “The Mark of Mount Vernon.” I’ve discovered, from countless conversations with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and friends of MVNU, that the mark is something different for each individual.
Like looking through a prism or a faceted gem, the mark grows, shifts, changes color and inspires re ection—relying on His light through us to create something beautiful. Some discover the mark in their time at MVNU, others help to create the mark through teaching and experiencing— still others only begin to see its significance when they’ve traveled far from Mount Vernon’s hallways and classrooms.
English philosopher and social theorist Herbert Spencer is credited with the following statement:
The great aim of education is not knowledge, but action.
MVNU has the same goals—moving students from knowledge to wisdom and truth, from thinking about what’s right to doing what’s right. Although there is value in learning for learning’s sake, the real value is when learning informs our actions so we might impact the world around us.
For those individuals, the mark exhibited to them may be professors who spend extra time and attention. It may be the housekeeper who prays for them daily. Maybe it’s the eye-opening service trip to Central America. Or the lifelong friendships made. Or the surprise they feel in discovering their own potential.
However the mark is made, it is a lasting one—one that changes lives and lasts forever. A perfect example of this is seen in current student Tyler DeLong, director of services for The Harbor, a ministry of Mount Vernon’s Salvation Army. He says…
People at MVNU have helped me grow and find what God is calling me to do. I am still growing because I am only a sophomore, but what God has done in this past year is amazing! …[M]y goal is to continually serve God and go where He leads me.
I love ministry and working with communities. I currently live in an intentional Christian community where we shape our lives around the teachings of Christ. We are devoted to a life of simplicity and peace, striving to abstain from the consumer mentality and maintain a life modeled after Christ. We plan to remain in community, sharing lives and possessions, seeking communion with other Christians and sharing the love and grace of Christ with the lost.
Desiring to re ect His light,

Dr. Daniel J. Martin President

The Nease Society honors those individuals who have named MVNU with a specific bequest in their will or who have funded an endowment for MVNU students.
We are believers in Christian universities! We want to do our part to assure that future students have the opportunity to attend a Christ-centered school like MVNU. We want to see students leave MVNU grounded in their faith, equipped to be successful in their chosen field and ready to make a difference for the Lord in the world.
As a Foundation Board member and parent of a current student, I’m proud of MVNU for actually being what it says it is. To date, it has attempted to provide an excellent education at a reasonable cost. It invests its funding in very intelligent and strategic ways. As an alumnus, I enjoy being able to give back to an organization from which I’ve definitely received.

I would like to see MVNU continue the life-altering blessings it provided for me. It is more than an education. The college years are a time of continued development personally, physically, psychologically, and spiritually. MVNU has so much to offer. I want to give back because the institution gave so much to me. I’m proud that it stands up as a religious center. MVNU has not compromised its Christian background to stay competitive. I love to hear about MVNU in the news or on the radio.
I think, “Wow, that is my school!”
The Eternal Flame Society honors individuals who have contributed $100,000 or more to MVNU during their lifetime.
The President’s Club honors those individuals who have given an amount of $2,500 to $4,999 in the last year.

The Chairman’s Club honors those individuals who have given an amount of $5,000 or more in the last year.
The Trustee’s Club honors those individuals who have given an amount of $1,000 to $2,499 in the last year.

We feel it is important to support MVNU because schools like it, holiness universities, are becoming a lost entity. Without the resources necessary, it could easily go by the wayside. We can’t let that happen. Because of what MVNU has done in the past, what it is positioned to do in the future, and the quality graduates it produces, we’re proud supporters, and we encourage students to make the most of every opportunity to serve.
As an alumnus of MVNU, I am proud that it has maintained a reputation that signifies a higher standard, not only academically, but also spiritually. In addition, having been a staff member, I was impressed as I personally witnessed the commitment to use every dollar wisely…Believe me, once you receive letters from students who have benefitted from scholarship funds, you will never regret the decision to financially support MVNU.

For me,“Life Changing” is so much more than a catchy phrase used by MVNU. Personally, it’s a very accurate description of what my experience at MVNU has been like so far. I have been impacted positively in every imaginable aspect of my life.
I’ve been challenged to develop further academically, to pursue Christ in a more purposeful way, to develop new and meaningful friendships, and to live my life to the very fullest of God’s will. I am so glad God has allowed me to be a part of this amazing University!
