September 2025

FROM PASTOR LAURA

Welcome to September Mountain View Family

It is hard to believe that summer is behind us, but what a great season we had together. Our gatherings did not slow down, and we shared numerous opportunities, including wonderful worship through music, prayer, fellowship, and a sermon series on Investing in our Neighbors. We learned how Jesus calls each of us to ‘love our neighbors as ourselves’, as we invite, incorporate, and invest in those within our communities. We recognized and prayed for our teachers and students in school, as well as sending them off to college throughout our country. We continue to enjoy delicious food and fellowship during our potlucks together, and what amazing chefs we have within our congregation. We enjoyed getting out in our community and connecting with local college students, as we engaged in witnessing outside the walls of our church.

Please join us for some new discipleship opportunities for the fall. Beginning on September 3, we have two new studies available on Wednesdays. Wednesdays at 10:30 am, we will gather for a women’s study on the book of Elijah, and on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm, we will host a group study for men and women on helping us discover our unique purpose in life. Additionally, we have Sunday School at 9:30 am, as we are growing in our faith together. Please reach out to me for more information at lgeloni@gmcofsc.org, and I would be happy to get you connected to the different ministries.

Come and be part of a passionate congregation that desires to be the hands and feet of Jesus, as we serve God’s community together. Please check out our calendar of events, as there is always something happening within our congregation. I look forward to continuing to get to know each of you, worshiping together, and seeing everyone soon at ministry events.

We invite you to come and join us at Mountain View Global Methodist Church, where Faith is Fueled and Foundations are Built.

Family/Children Committee

We are so thankful that our church is growing and we have some children coming now. We are excited, but with that comes the responsibility of Children's Church. Please prayerfully consider volunteering to participate with these children. All materials are ready and prepared; you will not have to do anything ahead. We need two people per Sunday. The sign-up list is located on the small table in the hallway. If interested, we thank you. There is a 90-minute Safe Ministry online class that is required. It takes a village!

Our next Family activity will be Trunk or Treat in the Fellowship Hall on October 31, 5:30-7:00 pm. Stay tuned for more news on this in September.

Handmade With Love

On August 17, over 300 prayer squares were prayed over for distribution to students at North Greenville University. All were given out on Church Day. But we’re at work again. Already we have almost 100 to replenish our supply. Be sure you have one and take them to give to friends.

If you need prayer shawls or lap blankets for family or friends who need comfort or support, let us know. We have some already made and available. See me and I’ll help you pick one out.

If you are interested in joining us, we meet on the first and third Thursdays at 1:00 pm in the room next to the choir room. No formal meetings. Just fellowship, sharing patterns and crocheting together. If you’re a knitter, you’re still welcome. We also have yarn that has been donated to the group. That’s available even if you don’t join us. We love visitors.

Brady Barlow

Welcome

to Mountain View Global Methodist Church Brady Barlow, who joined our church in mid-June of 2025.

Brady is currently a student at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee where he is majoring in finance and psychology with a concentration in accounting. He was born and raised in Greer, South Carolina and graduated from Greer Middle College Charter High School, which is not far away from Mountain View Church off Locust Hill Road. Brady has been going to church with his mom, Pastor Laura, since he was born, and before coming to Mountain View was a member of Covenant Church for 16 years.

Brady is happiest when he is spending time with his parents and family. Whether it is traveling or just being at home, he finds it is truly a blessing being able to be with them. Other things that Brady loves doing include playing golf, traveling to new places, going to concerts, listening to music, playing video games, and watching movies. Brady is involved with a lot of business clubs at the University of Tennessee that allow him to mentor others, publish papers on stock market research, equity research, and M&A (merger and acquisition) deals.

As Pastor Laura continued to grow as a pastor, she was met with the opportunity to lead the Mountain View church, so Brady and his family followed God's ministry call. What he likes best about our church is how welcoming and kind everyone is. For Brady’s whole life, he has attended large churches that have thousands of people at them, however, being at Mountain View has allowed him to truly meet almost everyone and get to know more about them than just their name. Brady feels that people at Mountain View have truly been so kind to his whole family which has allowed them to familiarize themselves with everything.

Even though Brady is away at school and it is difficult to attend church every Sunday, he still wants to be an active member and be there for everyone, whether it is through support, or even prayer. He has been helping with the creation process of the new website and helping to get everything moved over and simplified so that the site can be launched in the near future. Brady is still getting to know everyone and said “please don't ever be afraid to come up and say something whether we have met or not”.

MOUNTAIN VIEW METHODIST WOMEN

September used to be my Favorite month, now I reflect on the fact that every day is a GIFT from GOD, and a reminder of the journey GOD has allowed me to travel, and all the love I have shared with family and friends for many years!

Our August meeting was JOYFUL! We had 19 women attend, the refreshments were yummy and we all got to sign Love and Get Better cards for Velma & Thelma who we miss dearly!

Terry opened the meeting with a story about "hiding mini-Jesus statues". These mini statues are linked to a Tik-Tok trend from a few years ago encouraging people to leave them in public places as a way to share their faith. Of course, Terry made sure we all got one to take with us so don't be surprised if you find some right here in the church.

We then went on to new news, the discussion started about a DINNER - not a fundraiser but a "CONGREGATION APPRECIATION DINNER.” We feel that it is time to give back to all the wonderful people who make Mt View the SPECIAL church that it is. You have all worked so hard all year to volunteer when needed, to give generously of time and money, and you have shown love and care for all of our parishioners; so, we would like for you to mark your calendars for Tuesday, Sept 23rd at 6:00pm. There will be RSVP cards in the church bulletin starting in September, please let us know if you can come and remember this is a dinner for everyone, family, friends, neighbors, you get the picture RIGHT!

Next Debbie Wilson did our program. She chose ANGELS as her theme because of her own personal experiences and facts we might not know about Angels. Debbie's story was so moving that several other women told of similar situations that happened to them Then she gave each of us a Gourd Angel Magnet, which she made herself. We are so Blessed to have such talented and caring women in our group.

Our next meeting will be on Sept 9th at 4pm. We will be putting all the finishing touches on our plans for food and desserts foe the dinner, but we also will be having refreshments and a program so we need all hands-on deck, OK?

My closing prayer:

Dear Lord: Thank you for the JOY that comes from seeing Humor in everyday moments of life. Teach us to Laugh at life's Quirks - to embrace each day with gratitude. Help us to reflect your JOY to those around us and to be a source of encouragement through our cheerful hearts.

Mountain View Global Methodist Men

September 2025

We opened our season on August 10th after our two-month summer recess. Russ Didelot spoke to us about the Upper Room, and how much it improves your day to start out with Scripture and a devotion. He also introduced us to the ‘Little Jesus’ figurines, which apparently are what all of the cool kids are doing. Everyone can use a little Jesus in their life!

John Wilson made a great breakfast for us. If you haven’t been to one of our meetings, you don’t know what you’re missing out on. Come for the food, stay for the fellowship. Speaking of food, a lot of our discussion was centered around food. Philip Deal gave us an update on Sunday Dinners With A Twist, and spoke about how we can all get involved in this important ministry. We can cook, deliver, package, and help distribute to those who are less fortunate.

The biggest topic was planning for the annual BBQ and Gospel Hour, which is coming up on Saturday, October 11, at 6:00 PM. We will have a great BBQ dinner, plus the music of Hightop Mountain Harmony, a group we have had before, and are blessed to have back again. It will be a fun night for all, so invite your friends and neighbors! If any men are interested in helping out, you don’t have to be a member of the Men’s Group; just show up on that Saturday afternoon, and we’ll put you to work. The more helpers we have, the easier it is, and more fun for everybody.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, September 14, at 8 AM in the Fellowship Hall. Hope to see you there!

In His Service, Jay DeBree

NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY 2025 CHURCH FAIR

On Thursday evening August 21st, we joined about 90 other churches in North Greenville University’s annual Church Fair. This was our 2nd Church Fair representing Mt. View Global Methodist (the only Methodists there) to 400+ arriving students. Students are encouraged to find a church home and we offered Mt. View as that choice.

Your team prepared 400+ bags with offerings of Ramen noodles, popcorn, honeybun, but of special importance was the included Mt. View Bookmark, Crocheted Prayer Squares and our offering of a Little Jesus and a you-pick Rubber Duck. We set up our Canopy and Feather Flag for identification and from 5-7PM, engaged those students with invitation to join us at worship and know that “Everybody Needs A Little Jesus”. The basic bags with things they can use was an expectation. But the Prayed over Prayer Squares remain a big hit and along with their choice of a rubber duck gave your team the opportunity to open conversation about Mt. View and God’s Love. We thank you for your support investing $2.39 for each of those 400+ bags.

FREE ENTERTAINMENT – GREENVILLE CONCERT BAND

As you may know, Tammy Than plays clarinet in The Greenville Concert Band After taking a break, the first concert weekend for the band will be here soon The theme is Our Favorites - they will be playing favorite musical numbers from past performances plus a few new numbers! Both of the concerts are outside, are free and you do NOT need tickets.

Friday, September 19th 6:30 PM - Trailblazer Park in Travelers Rest. You will need to bring a lawn chair as there is no seating. There will be an ice cream vendor there! The Hutch Creamery will be selling homemade ice cream that uses produce from local farmers and cream from a Carolina dairy.

Saturday, September 20th 3:00 PM - NOMA Square in front of the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville. There is limited seating there so either get there early or you may want to bring a lawn chair.

These classes are designed to be stand-alone such that attending prior classes is not necessary. As a reminder, classes will have limited enrollment (number will vary a bit from class to class) due to space limitations in the church kitchen. SUNDAY DINNER WITH A TWIST (SDWAT)

August was a meaningful month for your Sunday Dinner With A Twist volunteers (Linda Search, Elaine Stewart, Ron Koppenheffer, Mick and Lois Coster, Bill & Linda Wilson, Jim McCoy, David and Maria Hudgins, Harriet Aaron Danielle Morrison and certainly some I missed) helped Redd and Cassandra Martin in the kitchen, plated meals at the old Bi-Lo location, participated in distribution to the homeless, helped with the clothing storage area, helped prepare an 80 count Hygiene Bag offering being prepared for September or helped John Wilson prepare the 80+ meals he prepared for the Sunday the 17th. We have an e-mail group for help in the Kitchen and one for help with Hygiene/Snack bags. If you would like to join in the excitement of SDWAT and be included in the work of one or both of these groups….let Phillip Deal or Bill Wilson know. In Matthew 9:37 we find….” Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few”…. There is always room for more volunteers. Come join us.
