“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Welcome to October Mountain View Family FROM PASTOR LAURA

I am glad to see that the fall season is here, and hopefully, the warmer weather will slow down, and we can look forward to delicious treats of all things apples and pumpkins. We enjoyed a wonderful month of engaging worship through music, prayer, teaching of His Word, and fellowship. We introduced a sermon series journeying through the Old Testament, where we began. Our congregation has been bearing witness to God’s first family, as we recall their stories that are woven through our lives.

September brought new beginnings with the school year starting, and we welcomed nine more people into our membership family. Outreach continues to be on our mind, as we welcomed students and families from Mountain View Elementary onto our campus and offered them a delicious popsicle as an end-of-summer treat. God is blessing our congregation as we stand on His Word and offer His truth and grace to our community. We began our fall discipleship opportunities on Wednesday mornings and evenings, and it is a blessing to grow in our faith together.

We continue to enjoy delicious food and fellowship during our meals together. Come and be part of a welcoming congregation that desires to be the hands and feet of Jesus, as we serve God’s community together. Please check out our calendar of events, as there is always something happening within our congregation, and I am happy to help you get connected to the different ministries of the church. I look forward to continuing to get to know each of you, worshiping together, and seeing everyone soon at ministry events.

We invite you to come and join us at Mountain View Global Methodist Church, where Faith is Fueled and Foundations are Built.

Family/Children Committee

Trunk or Treat will be held on Halloween this year, October 31, 2025 from 5:30-7:00 pm. We need at least 10 to 12 couples/individuals/families to sign up; sign up sheets will be on the little table in the hallway. We are having it in the Fellowship Hall with tables to be decorated and treats given out.

We will have a few games geared toward younger children as well as juice boxes and popcorn, and water. Last year we had over 85 children come through. If you would like to “man” a game, that would be great too.

Thanks, Debbie Wilson

BETTE & JIM MCCOY

Welcome to Mountain View Global Methodist church Bette and Jim McCoy, who joined our church in mid-June of 2025.

Bette and Jim both grew up in Miami FL, where they met in 10th grade English class. After high school, they both went to the University of Florida, where Bette got a degree in Elementary Education and Jim studied preveterinary medicine, getting a degree in Dairy and Animal science. Bette and Jim were married in 1969 and moved to Auburn AL, into a trailer park with a group of other Veterinary students. Bette then got her master’s degree in K-12 Guidance Counseling from Auburn University.

Jim graduated with his 4year Veterinary medical degree from Tuskegee Univ in 1973, soon after Bette had their first child, Jason. After graduation, Bette and Jim moved to Northern Virginia where Jim practiced in a mixed animal hospital, where dogs and cats were treated in the clinic and a mobile ambulatory practice of mostly horses and farm animals was managed out of a truck. Their second child Kristen was born just before they moved back to Miami FL in 1975, where Jim worked on the Hialeah, Calder and Gulfstream horse racetracks. A few years later, their third child, Laura, was born in Miami. At that time, Jim had gone into a small animal dog and cat practice. After their kids started to attend school, Bette became a K-12 guidance counselor in Miami before becoming the practice manager in Jim’s small animal practice. Bette and Jim retired in 2014 and moved to Marco Island FL, where they enjoyed Wildlife rehabilitation, “pay it forward” volunteering, and gardening.

Bette and Jim have five wonderful grandchildren. Laura and her husband Tullio have a son Brady, whom we know well. Their son Jason and his wife Kelly live close by with their two teenage girls, Madi and Taylor. Their oldest daughter Kristen and her husband Todd live north of Baltimore MD with their two teenage sons, Jack and Andrew.

After the isolation of COVID, Bette and Jim decided they wanted to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They moved to Greer in 2020 to participate in family activities. Laura helped them find their current home, which is close to a Publix for Bette and a YMCA for Jim!

Bette and Jim joined Mountain View when Laura became the Pastor. Having been members of larger churches prior to this, they really enjoy the warmth and comradery of the MV family. They feel that the Holy Spirit is very much alive here at MV. Bette and Jim look forward to getting involved in the activities and fellowship here.

Welcome to Mountain View, Bette and Jim!

MOUNTAIN VIEW METHODIST WOMEN

Hello Sisters In Faith:

Fall is a season of change. The leaves turn, the air cools, and the days grow shorter. For many women, this time of year brings both reflection and renewal and helps us to grow closer to God.

We had 18 women attend our September meeting; in case you were wondering refreshments are provided every month by different pairs of women who volunteer to WOW us with an array of food and desserts that we all enjoy so much and look forward to. Harriett gave the opening prayer and as always, her words were Uplifting and Enlightening

Terry Didelot opened the meeting and jumped right into the final preparations for the Congregation Appreciation Dinner, to be held Tuesday the 23rd at 6:00pm. We are so blessed to have a group of women who are ready to give ALL, no questions asked. By the time you read this the Dinner will be over and I can tell you it was a total SUCCESS for everyone. We had an amazing 67 people who came and observing them I did not see anyone who wasn't Happy. I pray you all enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed doing it!

Our actual Program was given by Pastor Laura. She started with a Special Prayer, and she provided all the necessary materials so each one of us could make our own Prayer bead chain or bookmark. They were not too complicated and everyone helped each other. Note, “Yes I am spoiled/ a great big hug to Terry for doing mine for me.”

Pastor Laura then said a special blessing over them, and we got to take them home with us. "See what you're missing out on Ladies"! When I am with my sisters in faith, time really does stand still as we all share a love and friendship that cannot be Explained it can only be Experienced. So, this is for all of the ladies at Mt View please come and be a part of our JOY.

October's meeting will be on the 14th at 4pm. Terri and Patti will be doing the Program "Animals in the Bible". We ask for you all to wear some clothing that is animal related if possible – OK?

Closing Prayer.

As we embrace the fall season, let it serve as a reminder of GOD's constant presence in our lives. May this season inspire you to TRUST in His TIMING, Find JOY in simple moments, and Cultivate a Heart of Gratitude!

Mountain View Global Methodist Men

We had our regular meeting on September 14th. Mick Coster provided the meal, and Ron Koppenheffer did a devotion on ‘Are You Saved?’ It was brought to our attention that we need to take better care of our church campus, making sure that it is clean and welcoming. We scheduled a work day and had a great turn-out as the guys trimmed the bushes and washed the windows in the Fellowship Hall. We would like to see these work days on a regular schedule to take care of this, OUR church. You do not need to be a member of the Global Methodist Men to pitch in and help keep our house of worship in tip-top shape.

The main focus of our meeting in September was the planning for the annual BBQ and Gospel Hour, which will be Saturday, October 11 at 6:00 PM. Make sure to mark your calendar for this fun event! For those who haven’t been to this event, the way it works is that we don’t charge admission, relying instead on your generous donations. We feel that we don’t want anyone to be excluded because they feel they can’t afford it, so please come out and join the fun. The entertainment this year will be Hightop Mountain Harmony, a young, popular gospel bluegrass group that has been here before. Dinner is a complete BBQ supper, with pork, beans, coleslaw, chips, buns, and cookies. Many thanks to all of the guys that work to make this happen, and especially to Phillip Deal, who keeps the whole thing organized.

Please note that the October meeting will be on the first Sunday, October 5 so that we can get any last-minute details ironed out. I hope all of the men will prayerfully consider joining us at any or all of our meetings. See you there!

Dear Mt View Church Family,

We appreciate your support through your prayers, cards, flowers and food during Velma and Thelma’s recovery, as well as condolences for the death of Tom. Please continue to pray for us.

Sincerely,

SUNDAY DINNER WITH A TWIST

Thank you to all who participated in Sunday Dinner With A Twist and meal preparation at the Meals On Wheels kitchen in Greenville during the month of September. Those include Linda Search, Elaine Stewart, Mike Watkins, Mike Redmon and Bill Wilson. Redd and Cassandra Martin are sincerely grateful to us for volunteering our time to help those in need. Also, thank you to John Wilson for being the lead chef in preparing food in our kitchen the third Sunday of each month. North Hills Church provides 150 meals for SDWAT on the third Sunday and we contribute about 80 meals. We then transport the meals to the old Bi-Lo store for staging to be delivered to the homeless community. If you would like to help on the third Sundays or openings for October 12 and October 26 contact Phillip Deal or Bill Wilson. Remember that Service to Others is what God calls us to do.

See how much fun Mike Redmond is having!

Lace Your Shoes!

Mountain View's hiking club is returning and we want you to lace up your shoes and join us! First and foremost, whether you can attend the first hike, please complete the survey listed below. Our initial meeting will be an easy, local hike, open to anyone who'd like to enjoy the beauty of God's creation and great fellowship. This is family friendly, so bring children or even neighbors, friends or co-workers who might be interested! There is no charge for the club but you will want to bring a water bottle and dress in layers to be ready for the weather. Wear socks with sturdy, walking shoes or hiking shoes/boots (avoid sandals, flip flops, etc).

We will meet in the Fellowship Hall here at Mountain View Methodist on Saturday, October 18 at 8:30 a.m, weather permitting! Following a brief orientation, we'll caravan to Paris Mountain State Park and plan to return before noon. To help us plan logistics and know your level of experience, please complete a registration survey by clicking here.* There will also be paper surveys in the hallway behind the sanctuary to turn in, if you'd rather. Again, experience is not necessary and we welcome everyone to join us. We are happy to answer any questions and look forward to receiving your registration!
