THE MOUNTAIN VIEW MESSENGER

Edition 3, Vol. 11 November 2025

FROM PASTOR LAURA

Welcome to November Mountain View Family

It has been wonderful to welcome the cooler weather, and the leaf color changes as fall has come. We enjoyed a wonderful month of engaging worship through music, prayer, teaching of His Word, and fellowship. We have continued with the sermon series, Journeying through the Old Testament, as we recognize where we began. Our congregation has been recalling how God’s first family is part of our tapestry and has been woven through our lives. There have been great conversations surrounding our mission and vision that God has called Mountain View to live out in the community and world.

October brought deeper discipleship conversations as the two Bible studies continued forward, and we have reveled in how God has molded each one of us differently. New relationships are forming within the congregation, as the fellowship is flowing. Through outreach and mission, Mountain View continues to offer opportunities to connect out into the community and share the love that God offered us first. God is blessing our congregation as we stand on His Word and offer His truth, and grow in faith together.

We had our charge conference and welcomed our new Presiding Elder, Dr. Webb Belangia. What a joy to celebrate all that God is doing through the Mountain View congregation. We continue to enjoy delicious food and fellowship during our meals together. Come and be part of a welcoming congregation that desires to be the hands and feet of Jesus, as we serve God’s community together. Please check out our calendar of events, as there is always something happening within our congregation. I look forward to continuing to get to know each of you, worshiping together, and seeing everyone soon at ministry events.

November symbolizes a season of renewal and is associated with gratefulness and thankfulness. Serving this amazing congregation is one of the many things that our family is thankful for. I hope that you can spend some time this month reflecting on how God has blessed you, and we thank you for your presence in our church family. We invite you to come and join us at Mountain View Global Methodist Church, where

Faith is Fueled and Foundations are Built.

“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

KERRY & LEANN BARNETTE

Mountain View Global Methodist church is glad to have LeAnn and Kerry Barnett as members.

LeAnn grew up near Taylors, SC, graduated from Wade Hampton High School and earned a degree in English at Wofford College. Kerry grew up near Blue Ridge, graduated from Blue Ridge High School, earned an associate’s degree in pre-engineering at North Greenville and a BS degree in electrical engineering at Clemson. They met on the Walk to Emmaus when LeAnn was attending for the first time and Kerry was serving on the music team. They were engaged within four months and married the next year!

LeAnn worked in inside sales with Eastern Industrial Supplies before their two kids were born, and then stayed home until the kids started school. At that time, LeAnn was

was offered a job as a kindergarten assistant at Mountain View Elementary and thought she would stay for the kids’ elementary school years, but the school feels like family to her, and the kids give her a lot of joy. This is LeAnn’s 21st year working there. Kerry has retired from working with Duke Energy after 38 years of service.

LeAnn and Kerry have a daughter and a son that both grew up here at Mountain View, and they love the people here like family. Their son serves as an officer in the military and currently lives across the country. He recently married and gave them the sweetest daughter-in-law. Their daughter also moved across the country a few years ago, where she completed her doctorate in marriage and family therapy in May. She enjoys working with children and youth. LeAnn and Kerry feel blessed to be able to travel to see them a few times each year.

LeAnn enjoys reading, taking pictures (especially of nature), walking, going to the gym, and being near (or on) the water. Kerry enjoys running, swimming, fishing, outdoor activities, and working with Scouts. They both enjoy spending time with family and friends, as well as traveling. LeAnn looks forward to having more time to travel when she retires!

Kerry grew up at Mountain View. Many generations of his family on his father's side have been members at Mountain View since its founding. LeAnn grew up in a small Methodist church (that had dramatically grown into a much larger one), and when she met Kerry, she immediately loved this welcoming, caring church. LeAnn has been a member here for almost 32 years. They both love that this church is truly like a family, working together to help others and show God's love. They love how Pastor Laura encourages prayer and has us all "digging" into scripture. The music has been amazing, and they truly feel the Holy Spirit.

LeAnn serves as Communications Chair, as the treasurer for Methodist Women, and has enjoyed the Cooking with Plants class. Kerry currently serves as SPRC chair, sings in the choir, is a member of Methodist Men, and is our Scouting Liaison. LeAnn and Kerry both enjoyed the recent Bible study, Hiking Club, and many of the social gatherings. They love spending time with this church family!

We are so glad LeAnn and Kerry are members of Mountain View and are so actively involved in church activities and leadership.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

METHODIST WOMEN

Sisters in Faith have you ever wondered what significance the month of October holds in the Bible? As the leaves change and the air gets crisp, this month invites reflection and GRATITUDE. It's a time when many prepare for harvest, both Literally and Spiritually.

Our October meeting started as always with refreshments and Harriett gave the devotion. She always finds just the right story to share and of course this time was about "Animals", which really hit home because that is what our Program was about.

Patti J and Terry D gave this month's program on "Animals in the Bible". Patti read from a book she found on animals and bible verses. Terri printed the verses on small pieces of paper and passed them out to each woman to read when we got to that animal. The book had a lot of interesting facts and a lot of funny notes on all the pages. I think we learned a lot about what role animals played in God's theme of our lives. We covered everything from large mammals to birds and frogs and bugs; yes, there are a lot of Bugs in the Bible. Oh, and to make it even more fun, we all wore some type of animal clothing and shared pictures and stories of our own "Special Furry Friends". Just a note to all those ladies who haven't quite decided to come and be with us "see what you are missing?"

On a sad note, one of our Sisters in Faith, Charlotte Newton, passed away. Charlotte was a long-time member of our women's group and we all will miss her dearly.

Our November meeting will be held on Tuesday Nov 11th @ 4:00 p.m. Hope to see you all there as we have lots of things to discuss. We will be finalizing our plans for the Christmas Luncheon which we will be sponsoring on Saturday Dec 6th 1:00 to 2:30 pm. It's important to note that this luncheon is for ALL of the WOMEN of Mt View. There will be more information in the bulletin this Sunday.

Sisters, as we gather in the season of Thanksgiving, let us pray and reflect on the beauty of GRATITUDE. Thanksgiving is more than a Holiday. We are reminded to give thanks IN ALL circumstances. Even in life's challenges, there is always something to be grateful for and I am very Grateful for all of you at Mt View. You are ALL my family * Happy Thanksgiving *

MOUNTAIN VIEW GLOBAL METHODIST MEN

November 2025

Wow! The year is flying by! For the last couple months, we’ve been busy preparing for the BBQ and Gospel Hour event in October. Back by popular demand, Hightop Mountain Harmony once again gave a lively performance that was well received by the large crowd. Many people asked if we can get them again next year. Yes, we can! The Global Methodist Men did a great job, buying all of the food, preparing it, smoking the pork, and setting up the Fellowship Hall for the event. I’d like to thank all of you that helped out. We had a strong turn-out of volunteers for Friday, Saturday afternoon, and for the event itself. We have such good helpers in this church! Despite rising costs, we still made a good profit after all the bills were paid. Thanks for your generosity, which makes these events possible. Plan on attending next year, you’ll have a great time!

Our October meeting was held on the 5th of October so we could do our final planning for the Gospel Hour. Jay opened the meeting with prayer, Bill Wilson cooked a great breakfast, and Mick gave a talk about the strength of faith in trying times, especially as a young soldier in Viet Nam. The rest of the meeting was devoted to our final planning and preparation for the event. Special thanks to Phillip Deal for keeping all of us organized!

Starting in November, our focus will be on Program and Membership. We are going to actively search for outside speakers to present programs. We’re also going to try to encourage all of our men to attend meetings. We discussed having a meeting at the same time as the Women’s Group so that some of our members that come from a distance can join their spouse for a meeting. Perhaps we’ll try this one time to see what the response is.

Please let me know if you have any ideas and suggestions. Our November meeting will be on Sunday, November 9 at 8 AM. I hope to see you there!

In His Service, Jay DeBree

Cooking With Plants in 2026

We have had great response to the cooking classes in 2025 and appreciate everyone who has participated at each event. It was especially wonderful to host our church family for a dessert tasting in August! With busy holiday schedules, we are going to wait until 2026 to offer more classes.

In case you haven’t noticed, a church mouse pointed out that some of our Mountain View members are looking much more vibrant, thinner and super happy we’re so glad to be seeing LESS of them due to their food choices, weight loss and exercise choices. Way to go, Ladies and Gentlemen!

We would love to hear from you if you have requests for future class topics or if you are in need of help with healthy dishes for the holidays. Until then, be sure to make great choices for yourself and for those who love you!

SUNDAY DINNER WITH A TWIST

October was another busy month at the Meals On Wheels Kitchen and Sunday Dinner With A Twist organization. Thank you to all who participated including John and Debbie Wilson, Mick and Lois Coster, Joyce Watkins, Mike Redmon, Ron Koppenheffer, Dave and Maria Hudgins and family. Special thanks go to John Wilson and team for preparing 80 meals in our kitchen to supplement 150 meals provided by North Hills Church every third Sunday. The team transports these meals to the staging center in Greenville to be delivered to the homeless community. If you would like to participate on these third Sundays or Meals On Wheels kitchen in November, please contact Phillip Deal or Bill Wilson. If you feel called to just observe or experience what we do on these Sundays, feel free to contact us.

TAKE A HIKE!

All 13 of us enjoyed traversing the Lake Placid and Mountain Creek trails on October 19 with beautiful weather and leaves drifting around us! There were enough to split into two groups who came back together at the Paris Mountain Visitor Center for snacks, laughter and more fellowship.

Our next hike will be on Saturday November 15th and we will meet at the church at 8:30 a.m. and plan to return by 12 Noon. New hikers are always welcome to join us! We recommend heavy socks and trail shoes or hiking boots, water and a ready sense of humor to enjoy the best of the day. For more information, contact Kerry Barnette, Mary Crowson or Tammy Than.

THANK YOU, GOD, FOR EVERYTHING

Thank you, God, for everything- the big things and the small, For “every good gift comes from God”The giver of the all- And all too often we accept without any thanks or praise The gifts Gods sends as blessings each day in many ways, And so this Thanksgiving time we offer up a prayer To thank you, God, for giving us a lot more than our share…First, thank you for the little things that often come our way, the things we take for granted but don’t remember when we pray, The unexpected courtesy, the thoughtful, kindly deed, a hand reached out to help us in the time of sudden need…Oh, make us more aware, dear God, of little daily graces that come to us with “sweet surprise” from never-dreamed-of places--Then, thank you for the “Miracles “we are much too blind to see, And give us a new awareness of our many gifts from Thee, And help us to remember that the Key to Life and Living Is to make each prayer a Prayer of Thanks and every day Thanksgiving. LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!!!!

Recently Mountain View hosted a LAUNCH PARTY complete with a space theme to celebrate the unveiling of our new mission statement, church logo, online directory and website! Many thanks to the communication committee that worked on making all of these things a reality and a joy to behold.

Some of the highlights that you can witness on the new website: the latest Mountain View news and upcoming events that include online sign-ups; a form to submit prayer requests; amazing drone footage courtesy of Adam Barnette; historical highlights from Frieda Liston and Phillip Deal and much, much more! The remaining component that should be active soon is the return of online giving. Donors will be able to choose the amount of their gift to the church – or even designate a particular fund, memorial or honorarium, if they prefer. The web address remains the same and can be found easily at www.mountainviewgmc.org.

The new Instant Church Directory is available either through that website or the Instant Church Directory app for both iPhone and Android users. Please keep in mind that this directory currently highlights active members that have had their picture taken at the church to use in this app. These pictures have a matching black background to allow uniform, professional appearance like previous directories but without any of the expense.

Mountain View GMC Gets a Make-Over NEW LOGO

The new Mountain View logo highlights the beauty of our church location –in the mountains of the Upstate while showing that the cross is always our focus above all. The new colors and design of the logo reflect our relationship with Christ and our anticipation of the encompassing work of the Holy Spirit. These same colors were purposely woven throughout our new website.

Our mission is to make disciples who fuel faith, build foundations, and embody Jesus Christ in the world.
