THE MOUNTAIN VIEW MESSENGER

Edition 3, Vol. 7

God Bless America

From Pastor Laura

Welcome to July, Mountain View Family

What an incredible month our congregation had in June. It began by talking about the power of the Holy Spirit and how each one of us can be a spark to live out God’s calling for incredible momentum through the community and the world. We acknowledged some men in scripture who have been pillars of faith, and celebrated mentors who continue that tradition forward. A New Member Sunday took place, and our Mountain View congregation grew, as eight people became members of our church family. In worship, we began a new sermon series on spiritual disciplines. As we navigate our journey through this life, we are given spiritual disciplines that help us grow and cultivate a deeper relationship with God. Overall, it was a great month because we are growing in faith together.

Recently, we joined as a church family and enjoyed some fellowship, great food, and fun games at the Family cookout at the end of the month. I relish serving alongside a congregation that continues to support the community through outreach and being a helping hand to those in need. Getting to know you all has been a joy, and I look forward to many more opportunities for fellowship. If we have not been able to connect yet, please feel free to reach out to me, as I would like a time to meet.

And remember, if you are a new member or visiting, there are different ministries within our church, and we would be happy to help get you connected. Even though it is summer, and vacations are taking place, there is always something happening within our congregation, so please check out the calendar of events. God is so good and, on the move, so we invite you to come and join us.

I hope that you all have an excellent month, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon at ministry events and worshiping together.

JULY BIRTHDAYS

June Memorials

David & Maria Hudgins

Welcome to Mountain View Global Methodist Church Maria and David Hudgins, who joined our church in March of 2025.

Maria and David (who also goes by Dave) met through work in Greenville and married in 2017. They each have 3 children and have 7 grandchildren between them. They rescued 4 dogs and love to totally spoil them!

Maria is originally from Texas and David from North Carolina. David is an electrical engineer for Uster Technologies in Greenville and Maria is an HR Manager for AEB International in Duncan. Neither of them has any plans to retire, at least for a few years. Maria moved to SC in 2000 and David in 2013. They currently reside in Taylors

Maria loves to cook and David loves her cooking! He also loves household projects. They both love to read and work out. Being together and spending time with their families, friends, and pups is most important to them.

Maria and David were attending another local church for over a year and didn't feel nurtured spiritually, as it was a very progressive-minded, secular-focused group. Mountain View has been so welcoming and feels like coming home to both of them.

Welcome Maria and Dave!

MV METHODIST WOMEN

Well Sisters in Faith here we are 5 months into 2025, and I am proud to say that we have done an amazing job with our meetings, our fundraiser and our programs. June's program was the "Icing on the Cake", if you missed it, I am sorry, but I know it was such a success that it will be done again in the future.

We started the meeting with refreshments provided by the 2 Patti's, and we all got to catch up on what's old and new news! Then Terry Didelot opened the meeting and Harriett gave the devotion, she read us an article about the Life we always wanted and to live life with JOY.

New business: Pastor Laura will be attending the GMC Behold Annual Conference in June and she has agreed to bring back what information she can gather on Global's recommendations for Women's Ministries like ours.

Our program this month was put together by our own President Terri Didelot who is an amazing woman! Where she finds the time and energy to plan and perform all the many projects that she does for the church and her family and friends and being a true Christian woman is beyond me, but I am sure glad we have her here at mountain view.

She put together a large board so that we could play a Know Your Bible version of Jeopardy. This board had columns with headings and points to be earned if the question was answered correctly. There were 3 small sheets of questions and answered in each section and after picking who would start 1st {the women with the most grandchildren} we started. Now everyone of you knows I am the newbie with the bible, so I was able to assist Terry. I have to say that this is another time when you "had to be there" to appreciate how so many of our women here at Mt View KNOW THEIR BIBLE and how they helped each other with some of the questions that were a bit difficult. Pastor Laura recused herself, but she participated in helping solve some questions that could have had different answers. There were several winners and prizes were given but it was the laughter and the JOY that made everyone want to do it again in the future!

Remember NO meeting in JULY - but please mark your calendars for August and start thinking about "ANGELS".

Before I end this, I would like to share - When we think about the JOY that God wants for us, we often realize that his JOY can be a source of strength to us. Please remember that we were created in his image, and it is his design that creates our desire to be happy. We know happiness is possible because God is happy and we are like him!

June 2025

Since we don’t meet in June or July, I figured I’d submit an article instead. When browsing the internet, I ran across an article on Kintsugi, a Japanese art form that creates beauty out of brokenness. Most Japanese pottery is made from clay. Sometimes pieces get broken, but rather than throw them out, they repair them. Now, anyone can glue a piece of pottery back together with varying degrees of success, but in Kintsugi, it is taken a step further. They mix precious metals such as silver or gold in with the resin. The repairs are plainly visible, and that is the whole point. It shows that the piece has been through the trials of life and still remains whole. In most cases, due to the precious metals used, the repair costs many times what the piece is worth, and it becomes a revered object.

We too are often broken. It may be physical, emotional, or even spiritual. We are created by the Master Potter, as said in Isaiah 64:8 ‘But now, oh Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay and you are the potter; we are the work of Your hand.’ Likewise, we can be repaired by Him. In Psalm 147:3, we read that ‘He (God) heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds. Some of our brokenness is visible to others, where our bodies have been damaged and repaired. Many of our wounds, though, are not visible to others. The trials of life have broken us, but the Master fixes us, if we will but let Him. After being made whole by God, we are stronger and more beautiful that we ever were before. I’m sure all of us can think back to some time in our life when we were broken in body, mind, or spirit. We got through it though, and are stronger for the experience. Particularly when God mends our brokenness, it makes us more valuable to Him. Wear your scars proudly as you go through life, knowing that the Master has made you whole time and time again.

THANK YOU for letting me be the GMCofSC BEHOLD Annual Conference Lay Representative for Mt. View. Worship with Bishop Carolyn Moore was very inspirational. Your Conference Superintendent, Erik Grayson, laid out our “Harvest Vision Plan” of Evangelism, Discipleship and Multiplication. We only have to just look around our community to know the Harvest Is Great. For Conference Business, all motions were passed, including one intention to explore an Africa Mission Partner, the Oasis Conference. During the coming months, you will hear more about these two initiatives, ALPHA USA and others. We elected Delegates to the 2026 General Conference in South Africa with our own, Laura Geloni selected as a Clergy Reserve. Rest assured that our Conference is being lead with Passion, Purpose and the Grace of God. Your Conference is lean; effective and Mission Centered with a Budget balanced to our needs and calling. Questions, just give me a call (895-5034).

Cooking with Plants Update

The last few months have been exciting as we have learned more and more about eating and cooking to be healthier! Our first cooking class was in April when we made three incredible bowls: a fresh fruit bowl of seasonal fruit, tempeh and mango vinegarette; a harvest bowl of craisins, apple, pecans, roasted sweet potatoes, beets, tofu, and roasted red onions with a maple vinegarette; and a fajita bowl with tofu, peppers, onions, tomatoes and more topped with salsa. We learned about grains including the many different varieties of quinoa. Lastly, we learned how to prepare tofu and tempeh – both are made from soybeans.

Zucchini Rollatini was a hit for a main dish in May that utilized thin-sliced zucchini, stuffed with a mixture of cashew cream and quinoa and topped with marinara Magnifico! At this class, we chose to stay and eat together and in addition to a fresh spinach salad, Chef Tammy taught participants how to make a fruit roll from rice paper and fresh berries which they dipped in dark chocolate sauce. Smiles all around confirmed that they thought it was delicious.

Our June class was “burgers and dogs” just in time for those 4th of July BBQs. Each of the three burgers we sampled and made were very different in color and texture. The red beet burgers were made with walnuts, oats, pinto beans, shredded beets and spices that made them a beautiful ruby red. Many restaurant menus boast a black bean burger but they don’t hold a candle to the one we made with black beans, quinoa, oat flour and diced jalapeno that tasted like south of the border. Our third one was a rainbow burger made with broccoli, corn, sweet peppers, onion, tomatoes as well as brown rice and kidney beans. The big question was whether the dogs would “pass the mustard” and they did! After precooking, the carrots are marinated with a variety of spices and liquid smoke that mirror the taste and feel of a hotdog without all the nitrates, sodium and other “bad actors.” After we enjoyed lunch together, everyone took home at least a dozen burgers and several carrot dogs.

How do we top all this? We’re so glad you asked! Our next class (date TBA soon) will be JUST DESSERTS! Yes, that’s right - a whole class focusing on making sweet, healthy, plant-based and beautiful desserts. Stay tuned for more information. We are loving cooking with plantsCome join us!
