THE MOUNTAIN VIEW MESSENGER

Edition 3, Vol. 8

August 2025

From Pastor Laura

Welcome to August Mountain View Family

What a wonderful July we had, including celebrating our nation, continuing with a spiritual discipline sermon series on how to grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with Jesus, and sharing delicious food and fellowship. I am enjoying getting out in our community and meeting some of our local school leaders and college partners, as we engage in witnessing outside the walls of our church.

We have begun talking about some new discipleship opportunities for the Fall, through Bible Studies and Sunday School spaces. Please be on the lookout over the next few weeks, as we determine the best times for these happenings. If you are interested in joining together with your church family for some connection, please reach out to me, and I would love to help point you in the best direction. Please remember that I am available to speak with each of you and enjoy getting to know our church family.

What a pleasure it is serving alongside a passionate congregation that desires to be the hands and feet of Jesus, as we serve the community together. If you are a new member or visiting, there are different ministries within our church, and we would be happy to help get you tied in. Please check out our calendar of events, as there is always something happening within our congregation. God is so good and, on the move, so we invite you to come and join us.

I look forward to seeing everyone soon at ministry events and worshiping together.

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:11-12

JULY MEMORIALS

Pam & Larry Pasek

Welcome to Mountain View Global Methodist Church Pam and Larry Pasek, who joined our church mid-June of 2025.

Pam and Larry met when he was in aviation officer school in Pensacola, Florida. They were stationed in Hawaii for 3 years, where their son was born. After leaving the Navy, Larry’s career in Corporate IT had them living in 7 states over 53 years. Pam’s career has been wife, mother and grandmother!

Pam and Larry have lived in upstate SC off and on since 1983. They made South Carolina their home to be near their 2 grandsons and granddaughter.

Pam loves cooking, sunroom gardening and visits to the mountains. Larry likes woodworking, golf and eating what Pam cooks!

Coming to Mountain View GMC has been totally led by God and Pastor Laura, whom they knew from Covenant Church. They like everything they have seen and experienced by attending MVGMC. Larry has sung with the choir a few times and may join at some time. Pam has attended the Methodist Women’s group, where she showed off her skills at Bible Jeopardy. She has been asked to help with sanctuary care and is looking forward to this volunteer duty.

Pam and Larry are both so glad to have found Mountain View GMC. They love the family atmosphere and love of God in all His forms. And of course, they love Pastor Laura!

Welcome Pam and Larry!

THANK YOU, LINDA SEARCH, FOR THESE “SPOTLIGHT ARTICLES” – WE ALL LOOK FORWARD TO LEARNING MORE ABOUT OUR MEMBERS AND YOU DO A WONDERFUL JOB!

NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY – OUTREACH

MV METHODIST WOMEN

Wow it's August already!!!! I have to admit that I missed our meeting in July. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder but I feel you are all my family and I know it's great to get away once in a while especially when the weather is so WARM but I will be happy to see all your beautiful smiles on Tuesday August 12th at 4PM.

While reading one of my Christian books I found a Devotional I thought you might enjoy reading:

FINDING JOY IN FELLOWSHIP

Fellowship is a reminder that we are not meant to walk alone. God calls us to gather, share, and uplift one another. When we spend time with others in His Name, we find JOY and purpose.

Fellowship allows us to see the diversity of God's work through different stories and experiences. LAUGHTER in fellowship is not just a sign of happiness it is an acknowledgement of the JOY God places in our hearts. It is through these moments that we experience HIS presence among us.

MY PRAYER

Dear God:

Thank you for the opportunity to gather with our sisters in faith here at Mt View Church. Help us to cherish these moments of unity and JOY. Teach us to support one another, share our burdens, and celebrate our blessings. Let laughter fill our hearts as a reminder of your goodness. Strengthen our bonds and help us to reflect your love in all that we do together. AMEN

Hope to see all of you Tuesday, Aug 12th , 4PMRemember all the Women of Mt View Global Methodist Church and their family and friends are WELCOME!

MV GLOBAL METHODIST MEN

AUGUST

Well, it’s August, which means our summer hiatus is coming to an end. We did not meet in June or July, so it’s time to get back to work! Our main focus will be planning our annual BBQ and Gospel Hour, scheduled for October 11. For our newer members and guests, this is a BBQ dinner, hosted by the men’s group, featuring a professional Gospel Bluegrass group- Hightop Mountain Harmony. It’s an evening filled with food, fellowship, and fun, so mark your calendars.

Again, since we have a lot of new members and guests, you may not know about our Global Methodist Men’s group. We meet on the second Sunday of the month at 8 AM, so you’ll have time to attend Sunday School and church. We have breakfast, a devotional, and then discuss projects that the men can do, both for our church and in the community. We’re known to discuss a little football, fishin’, and golf, too! If you’ve never been, plan to attend our meeting on August 10th at 8 AM in the Fellowship Hall. If you’re one of our regular members, talk to the new guys at church and invite them to attend. It’s a great way to get to know each other better. See you there!

In His Service, Jay DeBree

Are you lonely, O my brother? Share your little with another! Stretch a hand to one unfriended, And your loneliness is ended.

SUNDAY DINNER WITH A TWIST

(SDWAT) – MISSION

The Admin Council approved $2,500 SDWAT funding through the end of the year. In addition, the church has received a generous $1,500 donation to also be used in our SDWAT Outreach.

Your Sunday Dinner with A Twist (SDWAT) volunteer group is committed to assisting Cassandra Martin in the kitchen as their schedules allow and a process is in place for them to volunteer that time. August MOW Sundays are covered. (August 3rd John Wilson is supporting with baked beans; 10th Linda Search & Elaine Stewart; 17th John Wilson 80 meals; 24th is covered; 31st Mick & Lois). Thanks to everyone for your support in this mission ministry.

That Mission at the Meals On Wheels Kitchen typically requires 2-3 hours of standing from Sunday Noon-3 PM while preparing meals, plating them and transporting to the distribution point. Hard work but satisfying. If others would like to view that meal process or become a volunteer, please give us a call. You will be greatly rewarded. September is coming!

On Sunday, July 20, North Hills Church prepared 120 meals as they do every third Sunday. John Wilson and his Meal volunteers chose that date as their FIRST opportunity to prepare and distribute 80+ meals (BBQ, Rice, Green Beans, Fruit cup, Roll) for the homeless.

Lastly, on Sunday, July 27, your Snack Bag volunteer group prepared and distributed 200 Snack Bags (protein, fruit, snacks and water) for the Homeless.

A BIG THANK you to those volunteers who made all that happen in July and now on into August and to the Mt. View Family that supported them with prayer, encouragement and funding.

Bill Wilson / Phillip Deal (Local Outreach Mission)

CHOIR NOTES

The Choir is taking a few Sundays off from practicing after church. HOWEVER, you will not be without some inspiring and beautiful music. We have instrumentalists and soloists bringing their talents and gifts to add to the worship services in August.

In September, we will have a fresh start with some new music, some old favorites and will be looking ahead to Christmas music. This is the perfect time for you to prayerfully consider being a part of the Sanctuary Choir.

Why is choir important? The following are a just a few reasons taken from Worship Leader Magazine (worshipleader.com) and ChurchLeaders.com:

- Choirs lead the way for good congregation singing and joyful praise.

- Those empty chairs in the choir loft are an opportunity for service.

- The choir can be a perfect example of teamwork. The choir is most often filled with volunteers, of varying abilities. What a perfect example of God’s embrace of His Church!

- The “gift of language combined with the gift of song” is truly a God-given gift.

Embrace the opportunity.

Mountain View Choir is a safe atmosphere to enjoy singing, grow musical skills, experience laughter and joy, produce beautiful harmonies that connect us to the Divine Grace of God in worship.

We practice after the worship service each Sunday and would love to share music with you!

Everyone will take home a platter full of tasty treats. We will also make extra to share with our church family during a brief time of fellowship after church the following day (August 24th).

These classes are designed to be stand-alone such that attending prior classes is not necessary. As a reminder, classes will have limited enrollment (number will vary a bit from class to class) due to space limitations in the church kitchen. Your spot in a particular class will be secured by signing up and paying. We are asking that payment be made before the class to help purchase supplies.

A sign-up sheet will be on the table in the back hallway. For this class –sign-up will be open to only members of MVGMC until August 17th. On August 18th, if there are still openings, you may invite others to join you and sign them up.
