The next round of the British Truck Racing Championship roared into the Pembrey Circuit this past weekend, accompanied by stunning weather and an electric atmosphere, with crowds of people turning out for the action and excitement of a whole weekend’s worth of thrilling racing.

The weekend saw MV Truck Racing’s new Navistar truck making only its second competitive appearance, adding an extra layer of excitement, especially following heartbreak at Brands Harch over the Easter Weekend.

With the team had high hopes, despite the truck feeling a bit sluggish out of the corners.

During qualification, the Navistar managed to secure a respectable 7th place start. However, the team was less than satisfied with the truck’s performance, noting issues with sluggishness exiting corners that they hoped to address before the races.

This sluggishness was exacerbated on Saturday’s first race as a rollercoaster of emotions came over the team. The Navistar showed initial promise, but hopes were dashed with a DNF (Did Not Finish) on the 11th lap due to ECU problems. The team was left frustrated as the potential for a strong finish slipped away. The ECU issues persisted into Race 2, resulting in a DNS (Did Not Start). However, the team’s fortunes began to turn when Adam Bint, a friend and ally, stepped in. Bint’s expertise was invaluable as he worked with the team through the night, meticulously tracking down the wiring issues and getting the ECU back in working order, setting the stage for a more

Despite the setback, the Navistar was on fire, battling up to 4th place before a spin dropped it back. Impressively, it still clocked the 3rd fastest lap of the race, showcasing its raw speed and potential of the thunderous engine.

Race 4 saw the Navistar starting from 8th on the grid. The truck demonstrated its competitive edge, slicing through the field to finish 6th. The race was incredibly tight, with less than 9 seconds separating the entire pack. The Navistar’s consistent performance was highlighted by securing the 3rd fastest lap once again, narrowly missing out on overtaking Michael Oliver in the final stages.

In the final showdown of the weekend, the Navistar started 6th. The race turned into a thrilling duel with David Smith, with both drivers swapping positions multiple times while clearing the front of the Division 2 pack. In a nail-biting finish, the Navistar edged out Smith for 5th place just before the chequered flag. The race was marked by a significant 20-second gap between the leading trio and the rest of the field, underscoring the fierce competition.

The weekend was not without its share of what-ifs. Saturday brought some rain, conditions in which Tom excels at Pembrey, but the Navistar missed out on capitalizing due to the mechanical issues. The weekend was a testament to the highs and lows of racing, with the Navistar team showing resilience and promise as they look ahead to future battles at the next round of the British Truck Racing Championship at Thruxton in July.

Truckfest Lincoln's big move to a new venue brought both excitement and a few bumps in the road. We want to send a huge shout out to everyone who braved the heavy traffic on Super Saturday—your dedication means the world to us! While we mainly focus on our stand, we're chatting with the event organizers to iron out any wrinkles and make future Truckfests even smoother.

Now, about those muddy roads... Let's just say

they were not built with big trucks in mind, especially after the wettest winter in ages. But hey, in the trucking world, a little mud and queues are all part of the adventure, right?

Luckily, Mother Nature blessed us with perfect weather during the event, so at least we had that going for us! Fingers crossed the organisers make some plans to sort out the paths for next year’s show.

Now, let's talk trucks!

We had some real showstoppers on display. We were excited to showcase one of the three latest Ready Power Volvo FH 460 cheesewedge paired with a PK33002-EH crane, as well as Heras latest build, a DAF LF 290 18t brick grab, complete with a Palfinger PK19.001 system.

When it comes to crane tractors, we brought a trinity of stunners, including C Soars and Son’s Volvo FH 540 6x4 Tandem Double Drive paired with a Hiab 418 crane, and a pair of DAF XG 530 crane tractor units paired with Hiab 858s, one from Phelon and the other one of our Ready to Go units.

Not to be left out, we also brought some big pieces for the trailer section of our stand, as seen by Kelby Recycling's tough DAF XF with Fruehauf tipping trailer, as well as trailers from Fruehauf, Langendorf and Faymonville. Add to all of this we had a range of white trucks, including brick grabs, skips, and tipper & grabs, there was something for every truck enthusiast!

And speaking of impressive, H Strange & Son's DAF XF 530 Tractor unit stole the show. Believe it or not, it's not brand new—thanks to the magic of the Airdrie team, it looked like it just rolled off the assembly line! Restoration jobs like this are exceptionally popular as more and more companies are looking to give their late registration trucks a modern facelift or expand their fleet quickly and cost effectively.

But Truckfest Lincoln wasn't just about trucks—it was a full-on party! Our stand was buzzing with excitement as attendees got up close and personal with the latest units, as well as with our special guests— the gladiators—who brought some serious lifting power to join our crane trucks!

All in all, Truckfest Lincoln was a blast, and we can't wait to do it all over again next year. Thanks to everyone who made it out—we couldn't have done it without you!

Phelan Haulage has expanded the flexibility of its operations after taking delivery of a DAF XG 530 tractor unit mounted with a HIAB X-HIPRO 858 EP-6 crane from MV Commercial, that its director describes as “an absolute monster”.

With a four-tonne lifting capacity at a full reach of 16 metres, the new crane truck has allowed the Durham firm to increase its heavy load operation in the North East of England and Scotland.

The new arrival, which features a spacious DAF XG cab, mirror camera system and three-star DVS rating, joins three other crane trucks in the Phelan Haulage fleet and is expected to clock up around 100,000 km per year.
