FTH COMMENDS MV
FTH Hire Group has commended MV Commercial’s bespoke livery service and quick vehicle turnaround times, after taking delivery of a refurbished DAF LF 230 and four new DAF CF 480 rigid trucks, all mounted with beavertail plant bodies.
Delivering the vehicles in less than two months, MV Commercial used its in-house expertise to ensure the specification of the trucks matched FTH Hire’s requirements, alongside providing a customised livery finish for the business.
James Carr, Transport Manager at FTH Hire Group, says: “We are very impressed with the support we’ve received from the MV Commercial team, from the quality of the vehicles and their timely build turnaround, through to the professional livery service – they have really helped us to accelerate our fleet upgrade programme.”
Joining similar beavertail plant bodies, the new arrivals will be based at the company’s depots in Airdrie, Basingstoke, Farnham, Guildford and Southampton. FTH Hire Group also operates sites in Chelmsford, Farnborough, Horsham, Maidstone and Reading.
The new 8×2 32-tonne DAF trucks will be used to deliver a wide range of plant and equipment, including excavators, telehandlers, forklifts and dumpers, to local contractors.
“ The new trucks offer excellent payload capacity
and really look the part; they’re ideally suited for transporting our full range of available plant and equipment,” Carr says.
“We work them hard on multi-drop journeys, doing four or five runs every day from our depots to various customer construction sites, so it’s crucially important they are reliable. MV Commercial listened to our needs and the team have gone the extra mile to ensure we got the exact vehicles we required.”

ELLERSLIE T&C APPLAUDS MV COMMERCIAL FOR SWIFT DELIVERY OF ESSENTIAL DAF TIPPER GRAB
Ellerslie T&C has praised MV Commercial for delivering a new DAF CF 450 tipper grab direct from its Ready to Go fleet, helping the utilities contractor to avoid lengthy lead times in sourcing the truck from other suppliers.
MV Commercial came to the aid of the Glasgow-based firm when it experienced significant problems trying to quickly source a tipper grab to expand its utilities work, with many vehicle manufacturers currently quoting lead times of up to 12 months.
The commercial vehicle specialist, which boasts a dedicated Ready to Go fleet of 300-plus units, was able to offer immediate delivery of the DAF truck to the exact specifications required by Ellerslie T&C.
Thomas McManus, Owner of Ellerslie T&C, says: “We were really impressed with how quickly MV Commercial turned around our order and delivered the LEZ and FORS Gold compliant truck.

The DAF tipper grab, which is mounted with a Thompson tipper body and Palfinger Epsilon M125L grab crane, is the second vehicle from MV Commercial to join the company’s fleet, after it took delivery of an identical truck three years ago. Ellerslie T&C, which also runs utilities training courses, runs the tipper grabs alongside a fleet of three vans.
McManus says it was important the truck was compliant with Low Emission Zones (LEZ) in Scotland, allowing the business to operate in the heart of Glasgow and other local city centres.
The truck features cameras and sensors plus LED beacon bars to ensure the safety of its drivers, road users and pedestrians.
Commenting on MV Commercial’s service, he adds: “We used to outsource some of our work, which was costing a lot of money. Contracting trucks from MV has saved us a small fortune. Phelan Haulage has expanded the flexibility of its operations after taking delivery of a DAF XG 530 tractor unit mounted with a HIAB X-HIPRO 858 EP-6 crane from MV Commercial, that its director describes as “an absolute monster”.
With a four-tonne lifting capacity at a full reach of 16 metres, the new crane truck has allowed the Durham firm to increase its heavy load operation in the North East of England and Scotland.
The majority of its work is transporting abnormal loads such as telecom poles and moving shipping containers for use at corporate events, as well as for a company that stages escape room interactive games at a variety of sites.
Phelan Haulage Director Peter Phelan says: “It’s a very impressive bit of kit and the crane is an absolute monster – to safely lift that amount of weight at that reach is exceptional.
“This unit has allowed our business to undertake jobs that require heavier lifts, improving our reputation as a high reach and high load HIAB crane truck specialist.”

The new arrival, which features a spacious DAF XG cab, mirror camera system and three-star DVS rating, joins three other crane trucks in the Phelan Haulage fleet and is expected to clock up around 100,000 km per year.
