SPARC

WHAT IS SPARC?

SPARC (Short Park Athletic Recreational Complex) is a cooperative development between Newtown and Miami Valley Christian Academy (MVCA). The vision of SPARC is to transform a significantly under-utilized park into a community recreation and special events centerpiece while also providing MVCA a home athletic complex. The innovative public/ private collaboration will bring $2M in improvements via a capital campaign benefiting Newtown residents and the academy constituents.

KEY BENEFITS FOR NEWTOWN

Community Recreation Newtown residents will have access to a turf football/ soccer/lacrosse field, track, baseball diamond, new walking trail, new basketball courts, and other amenities. Venue for Special Events SPARC is in close proximity to the newly established American Indian Educational Center, Fire & and Police Stations, and the Town Hall helping to define a “town square”. Increased Economic Vitality The Newtown and Anderson Business Association have supported the plan: 1) SPARC will bring more visitors, increased pedestrian traffic in a new customer base. 2) Plan will increase business for existing Newtown businesses. Rental Revenue SPARC will rent the facility when it is not in use by MVCA, generating income to offset expenses that were formerly paid by Newtown.

KEY BENEFITS FOR MVCA

Increased Enrollment Especially in middle and high school, prospective parents are seeking athletic activities for their children and this is a major factor in their decision to enroll. Having a fully equipped athletic complex demonstrates a growing and robust program. Youth teams are able to visualize their future opportunities with MVCA athletics. Additionally, student athletes are looking to play in top facilities. Community-Building There is no doubting the advantages of playing on a Home Field. Without it, MVCA has to adjust schedules, haul all equipment, and transport athletes for every game. School spirit and pride is more difficult to generate when every game is away and on somebody else’s field. MVCA would love to have their first real homecoming.

BUILDING IT TOGETHER

A big thank you to those who have contributed. “Individual commitment to a group effort--that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” --Vince Lombardi Former NFL Cincinnati Bengal, Jim Breech #3 visits some of the SPARC team

As a former NFL Player (Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants & Pittsburgh Steelers), I am in particular excited to see more opportunity for the children of my home town (Cincinnati) to be involved in and learn the game of football. I am confident that this type of community facility would offer an array of sports opportunities to countless Cincinnati families. ~Brad Cousino, Past President NFL Alumni, Cincinnati Chapter As a former Bengal it is always encouraging to see Cincinnatians helping each other especially when football is involved. The Village of Newtown and its surrounding communities will benefit exponentially from the Youth Football program outreach. ~Tom Carter, Director of NFL Players Association The Village of Newtown and MVCA are small entities, but together, with the help of generous donors and grants, are determined to change the lives of our youth and give them a fighting chance in these challenging times. ~Newtown Mayor, Mark Kobasuk
