The Last Smoke Stacks South Pullman, Chicago, IL
Instructor: Claudia Ansorena
Library - Community Center
In collaboration with:
2025 - Studio Project
Rufino Vazquez
The design centers on the Pullman industrial history by transforming factory chimneys into unique and active moments throughout the building. This approach brings light and life to a large structure that has few windows. The chimneys are integrated into the new skin of the building, similarly to the Moritzburg Museum Extension. Furthermore, the remaining steel structure serves as an organizational tool for the food pantry, positioned at the center, with four active quadrants around it, each featuring its own chimney. Support programs radiate from these stacks, emphasizing their significance. Additionally, the library spaces are located on half floors, where each age category has its own enclosed area for personal expression or quiet work.

Wakpa Ecological Center St. Paul, MN Ecological Research Campus 2026 - Studio Project
Instructor: Alex Shelly - Maria Jose Fuentes In collaboration with: Jair Delgado - Rufino Vazquez
Located within the edge of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the WCEC stands as a natural and organic campus rising from the land and embraced by native vegetation. The campus is organized using the existing site and the presence of native tree species, preserving as many as possible through the development so as to follow the Dakota ideology of natural preservation. This campus serves as a beacon for both research and education, while allowing users to follow the path of rainwater from the overlapping roofs, to the retention ponds and the river.

Court of Light East Garfield Park, Chicago, IL Fieldhouse - Community Center 2024 - Studio Project
Instructor: Dan O’Riley Individual Project
The design uses its site limitations for the overall shape and uses the Chicago grid in all aspects of the design process such as the wall and glass placement. Moreover, because of the intersecting circles, at all four corners, we can distinguish 3 different layers being created going from public spaces (at the corners) to the most private in the gymnasium at the center. This allows different user access to different spaces. Also, because the main focus of the design tends to the gymnasium due to its size, the volume extrudes out of the main butterfly roof (used as a response to site shading) to even show to the exterior its key to the overall design and organization of the fieldhouse.

Nuclear Memorial Kiribati Island Memorial Project 2024 - Competition
In collaboration with: Jair Delgado - Ronan Schneider - Lorentz Lankoande
The memorial is located on an important lake of the Kiribati peninsula (where nuclear tests were performed). Our proposal includes the use of colored shirts sunken into the water, each representing a life lost to the weapons. As time passes, the shirts are released to the surface similar to lilies, bringing color to such sad events. The goal of the project was to convey strong ideas and emotions only through the use of graphics, images and a careful use of color.
