EDITOR’S LETTER

With the dawning of April we are reminded of the child like cheer of Spring. With winter weather behind us we are finally allowed to spring beyond our cocoons created by our lofty coats and long sleeve apparel. We can blossom into a fresh start with ample spring cleaning list, and clothing that frees the spirit. In this issue of Muve Mag we chat it up with one of OKC’s most renowned DJ’s, DJ Diverse, take a closer look at awe inspiring photography from Foto Booth, take our Desirable Destination feature to the Max, gather deeper knowledge about the spring Detox Dash from Bri, and discover what’s trending in fashion from Yvonne. As always, Read. Enjoy. Share. Andre LaMont, Editor

MUSIC hotels to the new commercial establishments invading Bricktown, whats your take on our commercial growth? It’s obviously good for big business and good for OKC as far as tax revenue. I’m sure we will keep seeing more and more coporate/franchise names moving in. But as someone who was there in the beginning, I do miss the old gritty local feel it once had. As a career DJ in OKC, we are sure that you’ve witnessed nightlife trends come and go. Are their any that you would like to highlight or even re-establish? I miss the days of no fun police. As long as no one gets hurt or no property damage is done, what’s the problem with cutting loose and having some fun? Life is short. Have fun. Your long running nightlife affair at Flux titled “Boombox” has grown exponentially. How did this excursion into dance euphoria come about? I have had many offers from others in OKC over the years to partner up on a club venture. I was always hesitant. Believe it or not there are a lot of shady characters in the club/promotion business. When my partner Mike Wise approached me about teaming up a little over a year ago it was the first time I ever gave it serious consideration. It has always been a dream of mine to have a place of my own or with someone who was the right fit to work with. Since Mike and I are about the same age, we grew up in the same OKC club/rave scene. happens every year. After the snowy season, finally spring is upon us and we begin to feel re-energized. You open the windows, pack up your coats, and begin the spring cleaning process. But after the indulging months spent indoors, it is just as important to “spring cleanse your body as well. Biologically speaking, nature supports cleansing of the body during this time of year, which makes it an excellent time to begin a seasonal detoxification program. So what exactly is detoxification and why is it important? Toxins are chemicals that are known to have harmful effects on the body. They can come food, water, and even the air we breathe. During a detox, you should avoid consuming as many toxins as possible. Obviously, we all have to breathe, but many harmful toxins can be avoided by choosing the correct foods to eat. While detoxing, avoid all canned or bagged preseasoned products. Many

of the ingredients that we see on nutrition labels such as “sodium nitrate” and “aspartame” are extremely dangerous to our health and mental well-being. Buy fresh foods such as uncanned vegetables and fruits, fresh chicken and fish, and other foods that only contain one ingredient - the one that you actually WANT to eat. Many detox diets avoid consuming meat products altogether, and replace animal protein with vegetable protein sources such as beans & rice or tofu. It is important to eat complete proteins containing all essential amino acids if avoiding meat products. Add your own seasonings with healthy products such as “Mrs. Dash” and other natural herbs. Avoiding preservatives will allow your body to cleanse itself while strengthening your energy

levels, mental focus, metabolism, and overall well-being. Drink plenty of water, and cut out all soda, sugary drinks, tobacco, and alcohol. Adding lemon to water is another excellent way to aid the detox process. Lemon is alkaline, and helps aid the body in many chemical processes. Building new habits takes practice, so don’t give up! Each day become better than you were the day before. While changing eating habits is essential to support body detoxification, it is also important to begin a healthy exercise regimen. The twisting, turning, and stretching motions of yoga improve circulation, regulate digestion, and stimulate lymphatic drainage. Here are a few yoga poses that will aid the body in removing many stored toxins on its own.

Looking behind you, reach your right arm behind you, placing your palm on the floor. Position your left elbow over your outer right thigh to increase the stretch. Hold for 30-60 seconds, breathing deeply. Alternate to the other side.

Open Side Fierce With both feet together, squat down. Cross your right elbow over your left thigh. Your right arm is planted next to your left foot. Reach as close as possible. Raise your left arm upward, gazing in the same direction. Hold for 30-60 seconds. Inhale while you rise up, and alternate to the other side.

Do not allow your knee to lean forward past your foot. Keeping your torso and shoulders forward and straight, stretch your arms away from you, parallel with the ground. Hands remain downward. Hold for 30-60 seconds, then alternate sides inhaling as you come up.
