‘Dive after dive’ Consistency lands Giannetti on Cal Poly soccer leaderboards Rafael Salinas

@ROCSalinass

Of all things valued in sports, consistency is often underrated. Whether in football, baseball, soccer or basketball, there’s something to be said for guaranteed performance week in and week out. Alyssa Giannetti, the Cal Poly women's soccer team’s starting goalkeeper, is a pillar of consistency. There's a word sports analysts and fantasy sports gurus use for players who deliver studly performances such as hers: elite. Through three full seasons at Cal Poly in which she hasn't missed a single game, Giannetti has given her team 262 saves, including 123 saves in her sophomore campaign — currently the program's singleseason record. The junior goalkeeper seems poised to own not just that record but also one for most career saves, sitting at 307. In addition, her career save percentage is .767 - eighth all time - and it’s sure to increase after this season. This year, Giannetti has amassed 54 saves while enjoying a .764 save percentage. Those marks place first and third in the Big West Conference, respectively. "I don't think about it, it doesn't mean much to me," Giannetti said. "I just go into games and try and do my job to help my team get the W." However, there was one caveat to her humility. “I feel blessed to be here with the opportunity to put my name out.” she said. “If my name ends up No. 1 this year or next year then great. I come out here leaving a little memory at Cal Poly.” >>

ASI fights potential

fee increase Brooke Sperbeck @BrookeSperbeck7

Cal Poly students could pay $4 more in fees next year to fund an organization most of them have probably never heard of. But Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) student government leaders are hoping that won't be the case. The Student Involvement and Representation Fee (SIRF) was passed in January by the California State Student Association (CSSA), a group made up of voting representatives from all 23 CSUs who are “the recognized voice of the CSU system,” ASI President Joi Sullivan said. “The CSSA writes resolutions, takes official stances on things, may look at bills going through the state assembly or state senate to take stances on those and what would be best for the system,” Sullivan said. >> FILE PHOTO | MUSTANG NE WS MO’ MONEY | The $4 fee would go toward the California State Student Association, a representative group that lobbies for CSUs.

The Audio Files: The new corner for KCPR PREVIEW Hey, we’re introducing a new column: The Audio Files. Here will be an outlet for KCPR’s DJs to share what they’ve got. Each column will be written by a different DJ or host presenting on a topic of their choice. KCPR streams music as well as talk shows on FM station 91.3 nearly 24/7. Its DJs play everything under the broad belt of music picked out by students, for students. Among music connoissuers, KCPR DJs are at the top. Regarded by many as the most musically affluent on campus, KCPR has many listeners who go to KCPR’s station to discover new music and gather opinions about it. In addition to their radio program, the station hosts live performances on campus, bringing in bands both locally and nationally. The first entry is on the sharing, community and love of music KCPR provides, penned by Haley Brown, graphic communication senior and promotions and underwriting director at KCPR. KCPR’s coined phrase is “keep it to the left,” because its signal is stronger when the dial is slightly to the left of 91.3. So go ahead and keep it to the left and see what their DJ’s have to say here.
