DEMO

Messa di Pentecoste was composed to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the restoration of the Steinmeyer organ at Nidaros Cathedral, Trondheim. The work received its first performance at Nidaros Cathedral on Whit Sunday 2024, performed by Trondheim Vokalensemble and their director Karen Haugom Olsen. The mass is inspired by and partly based on Gregorian motifs associated with Whitsuntide. The introduction to the Kyrie borrows from the famous hymn Veni creator spiritus, and the entire movement is suffused with the energy and joy of the Holy Spirit. Equally energetic and joyful are the Gloria and Sanctus movements, while the Credo and Agnus Dei are more subdued and meditative, reflecting the Pentecostal mystery.

The words are taken form the Traditional Latin Mass, with the exception of the Credo movement, which uses the “Alternative Profession of Faith from The Liturgy of Holy Baptism” from Common Worship: Baptism and Confirmation Services.

Tempo indications and dynamics are intended as a guide, and should be adapted to suit the performers and the building.
