Vinden dreg på mine strengar ingen veit kor han kjem frå.

Strekker mine vengar, løftar meg på.

Soga talar stille, dreg så vidt omkring.

Sol tek til å spille, tonar vert ting: når eg minnest alt eg såg og fekk, då gjer fjell seg om til min musikk.

The wind pulls at my strings Nobody knows where he comes from.

Stretches my wings, lifts me up.

The tale speaks softly, wide it mooves around.

Sun starts playing, tones take shape: As I remember all that I saw and absorbed, The mountain gives into my song.

Songen har sin eigen tone ein eg ikkje sjølv fann fram.

Reiser seg mot sol og ropar utan skam: "Lat meg gå aleine, ikkje gløym at eg var til, Så når sol vert borte, stilnar mitt spel".

Når eg saknar alt eg ikkje minst, syng ein tone ut i det som finst. *Songen "Tonar vert Ting" er tilegna ein ven som gjekk bort så alt for tidleg.

The song has its own tune One that I myself did not find Lifts itself towards the sun and shouts without shame: "Let me go alone, don't forget that I was here, So when the sun is gone, I will stop my playing."

When I'm gone and can't recall, The tune remains in all there is. *The song "Tunes in every Thing", is dedicated to a friend who past away far too early.

The Road Home

I min dal er sommaren på hell og snøen ligg i fjell.

Tidleg ute går eg for å nå til Stegaros* før kveld.

Snøen heftar, så tung og glatt, snart er stiane borte.

Eg finn ly før berget vert for bratt, snart er det mørke natt.

In my valley the summer is waning And snow is in the mountains.

I set out early to reach Stegaros* before nightfall.

The snow slows me down, so heavy and slippery, Soon the paths are gone.

I take cover before the mountain becomes too steep Soon it's dark night.

Ser ein mann i stjernelys og snø, så ruvande og stø.

Natta strøymar rundt han der han går, med stav og sølvgråt hår.

Trøyt og ættvill, har mist min kos, ber han redd om å hjelpa.

Mannen nikkar, seier eg treng los, Heimat til Stegaros.

Let opp døra, bed han komma inn i ly for kalde vind.

Her er ved, men då eg kveikar på vil mannen til å gå.

Eg sit att utan rast og ro, trygg ved mi eiga grue.

Kven han er, og kor han kjem ifrå, veit berre natt og sno.

I see a man in the light of the stars and the snow So looming and steady.

The night streams around him where he stands, With stave and silver-gray hair.

Tired and missing my family, I have lost my way And ask him fearfully for help.

The man nods, saying I need a guide Home to Stegaros.

I open the door and ask him to come in From the cold wind.

Here is wood, but as I light it The man wants to leave.

I sit without peace or quiet, Safe by my own fire.

Who he is, and where he comes from, Only the night and snow whirls know.

*navn på sæter i fjellet * The name of a "sæter" (alpine farm for summer pasture) in the mountains.

Om musikken Dette verket er skrive på inspirasjon frå den norske fjellheimen.

Songane er ein hyllest til fjella, tindane, sjøane, viddane og livet der.

I godt ver og når uveret rasar, byr naturen på så mykje.

Det er ei påminning om at det er her me bur.

Noko anna stad, har me ikkje. Me lyt lya!

Det finst meir mellom himmel og jord enn det auga kan sjå.

Når sanninga er tydeleg nok, ensar vi ho ikkje.

On the Music This work is inspired by the mountains of Norway.

The songs are a tribute to the mountains, peaks, lakes, high plains and the life there.

In good weather and when the blizzards rage, nature offers so much.

The conditions remind us that it is here we live.

We have no other place. We should listen!

There is more between heaven and earth than meets the eye.

When the truth is obvous, it is hard to see.
