SUGARIA

Programme note for ”Sugaria” This concerto was commissioned by the Paris Regional Conservatory and composed during the summer 2006. The première took place in April 2007 by Ria Ideta, soloist marimbist, with the Paris Conservatory Orchestra conducted by Xavier Delette. I have dedicated this concerto to my daughter Nina.

General note: The Original Score: The scoring is for Solo Marimba and String Orchestra (2 violins, viola and violoncello), 3 percussions /vibraphone on the 1. part) and one double bass (with amplifier). (In the 3. Mvm. the Vibe player will have to play Claves: Bars 5-17 and 125-136.) The Piano Score: I have made a piano reduction as well which can be used instead of the String Orchestra. In the piano reduction score the parts for percussions and double bass are included. It is important that the percussions and double bass parts are played as well as the piano part in order to get the best possible result. Eric Sammut – August 2009 Duration: 17’.
