音樂會簡介 ABOUT THE CONCERTS
「賽馬會樂·憶古蹟」音樂會首次踏造芝加哥大學香港校園。這校舍懇浮於現有的三級
歷史建築群上，以建築大師譚秉榮「知識的樹屋」為設計理念搭建。誼樂社藝術總監李
垂誼構思以巴赫的音樂呼應此理念，探尋這位偉大作曲家影響後世音樂家思考與創作的
軌跡。
一連兩天的音樂會將先由巴赫為弦樂三重奏而編的《三聲部創意曲》開始。其後呈獻海
頓、巴赫之子和莫札特的作品，細看巴赫對早期作曲家的影鬢。翌日的音樂會將擴闊作 曲家光譜，不僅展現巴赫對貝多芬、孟德爾遜、舒曼和舒伯特等德奧作曲家的影響，亦
展示凱魯畢尼、拉威爾、柴可夫斯基和蕭斯塔高維契等來自中歐、西歐和東歐著名作曲 家受巴赫的啟發。
Echoing architect Bing Thom's campus design concept of "Treehouse of Knowledge", this concert series features a unique program that illustrates the genius of J.S. Bach and how his music has influenced centuries of composers from the early days to the mid-20th century. The two-day program starts with the first concert featuring J.S. Bach's Inventions arranged for String Trio, followed by concerts performing works Haydn, his son C.P.E. Bach and Mozart. On the second day, the composer's influence will be exemplified by another three concerts featuring works of Central, Western and Eastern Europe.

His recent a lbums include Bright Sheng's The Blazing Mirage dedicated to Lee, and The Dream of the Red Chamber Capriccio under the direction of composer Wang Liping. As the founding Artistic Director of Musicus Society, Lee established the groundbreaking Musicus Fest in 2013. As an ambassador of UNICEF HK, he was joined on stage at the United Nations General Assemb ly Hall in 2014 by Yoko Ono and Hugh Jackman among others to launch The IMAGINE Project. Other inspiring projects, Lee has undertaken include performances for indigenous First Natio n communities of northern Canada and a fundraising concert for South African hero Denis Goldberg and his House of Hope Foundation in South Africa. 小提琴家李貞熙生於多倫多，合作過的樂團包括多
倫多交譽樂團、魁北克交響樂團、布洛特音樂節樂 圄、多倫多大學交響樂國、蒙特利爾室樂圜，以及
加拿大皇家音樂學院樂靨，也曾在第23屆艾克—格 藍瑪特國家音樂比賽弦樂組中奪魁。
李氏在皇家音樂學院就讀時師隨丹俊高，在多倫多 大學時師驩梵衛舒，獲該校頒發伊頓獎學金及演奏 碩士學位。她畢業後負笈德國，曾在慕尼黑隨萊納 上私人餜堂，又在柏林高等藝術學院隨布蘭迪斯學 習，並在校內的捷亞法舒大棄贏得亞軍。此外她更

Toronto born violinist Elissa Lee has appeared as a soloist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec, the Brott Music Festival Orchestra, the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre de Chambre de Montreal, and the Royal Conservatory Orchestra. She won first prize in the 23rd Eckhardt-Gramatte National Music Competition (Strings). Lee studied with Victor Danchenko at the Royal Conservatory and with Lorand Fenyves at the University of Toronto, where she received a master's degree in performance and was the recipient of the prestigious Eaton Scholarship. She then moved to Germany to study privately with Andreas Reiner in Munich and Thomas Brandis at the Hochschule der KOnste in Berlin where she won second prize in the Gyarfas Competition. She received two Chalmers Performing Arts Training Grants from the Ontario Arts Council, and a Canada Council Grant. Lee has held positions as Second Concertmaster in both the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the WDR Sinfonieorchester, and is now enjoying a busy freelance career. She has performed as Concertmaster with the MQnchner Rundfunkorchester, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchster der KlangVerwaltung in Munich, and the Lucerne Festival Strings, and in leading positions with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Luxembourg Philharmonic, and the Canadian Opera Company. She has also been a guest of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and has worked under the batons of Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Bernard Haitink and Daniel Harding. Lee has featured as first violinist with both the Kamareli and the Bomari String Quartets, has performed with Louie Lortie, Augustin Dumay, Anton Kuerti, Pascal Devoyon, Kevin Fitzgerald, Lawrence Lesser, and Shauna Rolston, and has been a frequent participant in pen Chamber Music in Prussia Cove, Cornwall. With pianist Jeanie Chung she won second prize at the 2001 Caltanissetta International Chamber Music Competition, and received an Honourable Mention at the Premio Vittorio Gui Competition in Florence.

Violinist Francis Chik Yiu-ting is a member of the Cong Quartet which won the Grand Prize in the 2019 Salzburg Mozart International Chamber Competition in Tokyo, and the 2nd prize in the 2021 Kreutzer Interna tional Competition. The quartet is currently Artists-in-Residence for the Master of Arts programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where it held the role of Ensemble-in-Residence from 2019 to 2021. Chik has attended the Netherlands String Quartet Academy, the Robert Mann String Quartet Institute, the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, the Heifetz International Music lnstitute's Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Music Seminar, Harpa International Music Academy in Iceland, and Madeline Island Chamber Music. He has worked closely with the Pacifica, Dover, and Shanghai Quartets, and with members of the Danel, Jerusalem, American, Tokyo, Juilliard, Borromeo, Vermeer and Borodin String Quartets. He obtained his Master of Arts degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London, and was awarded the Roth Prize for Violin Finalists for his exceptional performance in the final recital. He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he was awarded the Performer's Certificate, and also studied at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He has studied under Hu Kun, Ivan Chan, Ho Hong-yin, Mikhail Kopelman, Simin Ganatra and Joseph Swensen. Chik has appeared at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Heifetz International Music Institute, the Nyack Academy of Music Summer Festival, and the Hu Kun & Friends International Masterclass. He has also played in the masterclasses of world-renowned violinists Pinchas Zukerman, Movses Pogossian, Tasmin Little, Federico Agostini, Renee Jolles, Paivyt Meller and Isaac Malkin.

Violinist Brian Choi was a 2018 winner in the Musicus Society's Young Artist Audition program. He is a recent graduate of Donald Weilerstein's studio at the New England Conservatory (NEC) in Boston, where he completed his master's degree. During his undergraduate years at NEC, under the tutelage of Paul Biss, Choi achieved third place in the Bales Violin Competition and was awarded the loan of a fine Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume instrument. His prizes include Hong Kong Young Musician of the Year in 2006; first prize for violin in the New York International Artists Association (NYIAA) Competition 2017; and also in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Competition 2017. He has extensive chamber music experience, and has studied with renowned artists including Joel Krosnick, Laurie Smukler, Katherine Murdock, Mai Motobuchi, Yeesun Kim, Natasha Brofsky and Vivian Weilerstein. He has also participated in masterclasses with members of the Parker String Quartet, the Emerson String Quartet, and the Szymanowski String Quartet. He attended the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival 2016, and returned for the summers of 2017 and 2019. In 2017 he was invited to the Italian festival Paesaggi Musicali Toscani as a guest artist. performing a recital with the legendary pianist Bruno Canino. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in September 2017 in the NYIAA Competition Winners Showcase. In 2018 Choi was the soloist with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto, and participated in the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar with the Ceres Quartet. Choi was invited to perform at Musicus Fest 2018, 2019 and 2020. He is also currently the guest concertmaster of Hong Kong's Gustav Mahler Orchestra, and a substitute violinist with both the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chow Yip-wai is the newest addition to Cong Quartet. the current Artists-in-Residence for the Master of Arts programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Studying primarily overseas he graduated with a master's degree from the New England Conservatory, where he studied under Avano Ninomiya, having previously earned his bachelor's degree at the Eastman School of Music where he studied with Robin Scott and Charles Castleman. Chow has served as first violinist with the award-winning Montclair String Quartet in West Virginia, USA, and also as a faculty member at West Virginia State University. He has appeared as a soloi st, chamber m usici an and i concertmaster at venues and fest vals which include Carnegie Hall, Banff Center, Jordan Hall, the Moritzburg Festival, and Music Academy of the West. Violinist Fan Hui-sing is the 2021 winner in the Musicus Society's Young Artist Audition program. Winner of the New York International Artists Violin Competition and the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition, he has established himself as a rising star on the international concert circuit. Institutions and international festivals at which he has performed include the Marvao Music Academy, the Verbier Festival, the Festival e Academia Verao Classico, the Great Mountains Music Festival and School, and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival. He made his debut with the Musicus Society in 2021. Born in Hong Kong, Fan began violin lessons at the age of four. He was the beneficiary of the Cordelia Lee Scholarship and Betty & Daniel Bloomfield Fund Scholarship while at the Juilliard School, where he earned his bachelor's degree studying under Hyo Kang and I-Hao Lee, before going on to further studies at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater in Munich with Julia Fischer, Christoph Poppen, and Lena Neudauer. Fan has collaborated with and been mentored by such renowned artists as Leonidas Kavakos, Nikolai Szeps-Znaider, Vadim Repin, ltzhak Perlman, Kristof Barati, Ferenc Rados, Pamela Frank, Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Donald Weilerstein, Aaron Rosand, Pierre Amoyal, Mihaela Martin, the Quatuor Ebene, and the Emerson String Quartet. He currently plays a 1795 Ferdinandus Gagliano violin from Naples.

Richard Wolfe was born and raised in New York, where he studied violin with Mara Sebriansky and Dorothy Delay. He graduated from the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati in the class of Walter Levin (1st violinist of the LaSalle Quartet). After further studies in New York with Gerald Beale, Wolfe lived five years in Israel, where he became a member of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. During this period, he started to discover the beauty of the viola, and played it in an ensemble with principal players from the orchestra. In 1982 Wolfe established himself in the Netherlands, and in 1984 he began a 35 year tenure as first principal violist of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra / Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. With these orchestras he appeared numerous times as soloist, at home and abroad. His recording of Mozart's "Sinfonia Concertante" K.364, with Gordan Nicolic and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, was released on the Tacet label in 2020. Wolfe has been a member of chamber music ensembles with notable musicians, such as the violinist Sergiu Luca ("Music in Context") and cellist Roel Dietiens ("Explorations"), and he and his wife, the violinist Elisabeth Perry, are core members of the Utrecht-based Rietveld Ensemble. Wolfe is professor of viola at the Utrecht Conservatory, and he has participated in master classes and festivals in France, Germany and the United States.

Violist Cass Ho received her undergraduate degree at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with First Class Honors. Her teachers included John Rogers and the late Wong Wai-ming. Ho has toured in Europe with the Academy Symphony Orchestra. She was a winner of the Academy Concerto Competition and performed Walton's Viola Concerto under the baton of Yuasa Takuo. Ho was also a recipient of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship, as well as scholarships awarded by the Children's Palace, Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation, Investec and Bloomberg. Upon her graduation from the Academy, Ho went on to study with Masao Kawasaki for her Master's Degree at Juilliard, where she received the C.V. Starr and Louis Smadebeck Scholarships. She was a member of the New Juilliard Ensemble and took part in the Focus! Festival in 2006, in which her performance was reviewed as "well-coached and superb" by the New York Sun Post. Ho has also worked with renowned chamber groups such as the Haydn String Quartet, the Australia String Quartet and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Ho was featured in performances of the International Society for Contemporary Music. As a member of the Dawning Quartet, she was also invited to perform in the New Generation Competitions in 2017 and 2018, presented by the Hong Kong Composer's Guild and broadcasted on Radio 4. She has also appeared as freelance violist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Virtuosi and Opera Hong Kong. Ho also made her Musicus Fest debut in 2018. Ho is currently on faculty at the Junior Music Department at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Prior to the formation of the Cong Quartet he was violist of the Alpensia Quartet in South Korea, sponsored by the Artsylvia Foundation. Wong received his musical education in Hong Kong, London, Indiana, New York and the Netherlands, studying with Kaori Wilson of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Kazuhide lsomura of the Tokyo String Quartet. and Curtis Institute of Music Artistic Director Edward Gazouleas. His other mentors include Ivan Chan, Stephen Wyrczynski, Michael Tree, Mai Motobuchi and Mara Gearman. He has studied and worked closely with the Pacifica, Borromeo, Dover, Juilliard and Shanghai string quartets, and with members of the Cleveland, Danel, Guarneri, Jerusalem, Tokyo, and Vermeer quartets. Chamber music festivals and institutions at which Wong has performed include the Robert Mann String Quartet Institute; the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar; the Ashkenasi/ Kirshbaum Chamber Music Seminar at the Heifetz International Music Institute; Madeline Island Chamber Music; and Harpa International Music Academy in Iceland. Wong was a member of The Orchestra Now (TON) in New York, the Evansville Philharmonic in Indiana, and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra in Kentucky. Hila Kami was born in Tel Aviv and took up the cello aged nine. Only four years later she was touring Europe, Canada and the United States. Karni's teachers included Zvi Harel, Uzi Wiesel, David Geringas, and the legendary Bernard Greenhouse, who has described her as "one of the most musically sensitive and technically exciting cellists of the younger generation." She received her chamber music training with Haim Taub, llan Gronich, and the Alban Berg Quartet. In 2006, together with violinist Daniel Bard and pianist Ohad Ben-Ari, Kami founded the successful Trio Mondrian, winning 1st Prize, the Young Award, and the Special Prize for its interpretation of a Brahms trio at the 2007 International Chamber Music Competition in Trieste. At the 2008 Bologna Festival it received the Audience Prize, and in 2009, was awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship (London). The Italian composer Marcello Abbado dedicated a piece entitled Trio Mondrian to the ensemble. Since 2021 Kami has been a member of Trio Lirico. She has appeared at numerous festivals - including Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein, Stresa, Kfar Blum, and Ravinia - and at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Megaron Mousikis in Athens, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Koiner Philharmonie, the Wigmore Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York. From 2013 to 2015 she taught chamber music at the Hochschule fOr Musik und Theater Hamburg. Among her many musical partners are Boris Pergamentschikow, Guy Braunstein, Ralf Gothoni, Bernard Greenhouse, Maxim Vengerov, Nigel Kennedy and the Scharoun Ensemble. She also regularly collaborates with Israeli singer Noa. Albanian composer Dhora Leka wrote the solo piece lmprovisus for her. Karni's recordings of the Romantic Serenades and the Cello Concerto Op. 33 by Robert Volkmann with the Hamburg Camerata, and of Max Richter's War Anthem with the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg, have received enthusiastic reviews.

Hong Kong native Cheng Yan-ho studied the cello under the tutelage of Cheung Ming-yuen, Joliana Lai, Tung Hiu-lo and Professor Ray Wang. He graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Arts degree in in Music, and from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington with a master's degree in Cello Performance, gained under the guidance of Peter Stumpf and Brandon Vamos. He also worked as the assistant to Susan Moses at the Indiana University String Academy, and furthered his studies in quartet performance with Marc Danel, Ivan Chan and the Pacifica Quartet. Cheng is the founding cellist of the Cong Quartet, which won the Grand Prize in the 2019 Salzburg Mozart International Chamber Competition in Tokyo, and the 2nd prize in the 2021 Kreutzer International Competition in Belgium. The Cong Quartet is currently Artists-in-Residence for the Master of Arts programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where it held the role of the Ensemble-in-Residence from 2019 to 2021. He has recently toured Europe and the United States with the quartet. Other notable artists with whom he has performed include Jorja Fleezanis, Antonio Lysy, Mai Motobuchi, Yuri Bashmet and Eric Kim. Cheng was awarded a full scholarship for his master's studies by the C.C.Chiu Memorial Fund; and has also been the beneficiary of the C.F. Hu Postgraduate Memorial Scholarship, the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation "Gucci Timepieces and Jewelry Music Fund" Scholarship; and the Li Po Chun Charity Trust Fund Postgraduate Scholarship. He was also a prize winner in the Cello Concerto competition in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

Young Steinway Artist Rachel Cheung has been described as "a poet, but also a dramatist" and praised for "the most sophisticated and compelling music-making" by the Dallas Morning News. In 2017 she was a finalist and winner of the audience award at the 15th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She also won fifth prize at the 2009 Leeds International Piano Competition, aged 17, and in 2010 was a semifinalist at the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Cheung's Festival appearances include the Ninth Musical Olympus International Festival in St Petersburg, Russia; the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdr6j, Poland; Virtuosos of the Planet 2006 in Kiev, Ukraine; the Transeuropeennes festival in Rouen, France; the Miami International Piano Festival, Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival, and the International Piano Festival, Sun Valley in the USA; and Musicus Fest 2017, when it was held for the first time in Finland. She has also performed at the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, the Steinway Hall in London, the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, and the Philharmonie de Paris. An active chamber musician, Cheung has worked with world-renowned musicians including Vladimir Mendelssohn, Dong-Suk Kang, Jan-Erik Gustafasson, Ning Feng, Trey Lee, Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Jens Peter Maintz, Virpi Raisanen, Jian Wang, Michel Lethiec, Bruno Canino, the Brentano String Quartet and Quatuor Leonis. Orchestras with which she has performed include the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra; the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn; the Hong Kong Sinfonietta; the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, with Edo de Waart; the Halle Orchestra, with Sir Mark Elder; the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, with Vladimir Ashkenazy; the New York Concert Artists Symphony Orchestra, with Eduard Zilberkant; the London Chamber Orchestra, with Christopher Warren-Green; and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, with Leonard Slatkin and Nicholas McGegan. She recently directed and performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris at the Paris Play-Direct Academy, led by Stephen Kovacevich. She was also awarded the prix du jury at the closing concert.

ABOUT MUSICUS SOCIETY
誼樂社於2010年為實踐著名大提琴家李垂誼的理念而成立。旨在透過跨文化交流和合作，推廣音樂藝術。樂 社在發展中得到榮譽贊助人董建華先生和社會各界的慷慨支持，並獲香港特別行政區政府「藝術發展配對資 助計劃」的資助。樂社的年度活動包括三個主要項目： ·「樂·誼國際音樂節」匿聚全球演奏家作跨文化交流，由國際與香港著名藝循家合作，透過觀摩、指導及 同台演出，啓迪音樂界的新一代。樂社亦通過與世界各地夥伴的合作，為本地新秀提供海外演出機會，提 高國際間對香港藝術家的認識。 ·「樂·憶古蹟」計劃在本港具歷史價值的地點舉行音樂會，透過演出、導賞及公眾活動，以音樂喚醒香港 的歷史及文化。年輕作曲家受古蹟啓發而撰寫的新作，亦會在個別音樂會中作世界首演。 ·「樂·啓夢想」教育項目，旨在為藝術大師與學生提供交流學習的機會與平台，培育社會各階層對音樂有 興趣的青少年，促進藝術人才的發展。此項目包括讓年輕樂手在本港和海外接受大師指導以及同台演出的 「樂團培訓」，鼓勵學生認識音樂的「樂訪校園」。此外，樂社亦每年舉辦「作品徵集」和「年青音樂家 招募」，發掘並栽培香港具有潛質的作曲家及演奏家。 Musicus Society was founded in 2010 under the vision of renowned cellist Trey Lee. A registered charity under the patronage of the Hon. Tung Chee-hwa, Musicus Society aims to promote cross-cultural collaboration of music internationally. The Society is financially supported by the Arts Development Matching Grants Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and presents three major programs each year: • Musicus Fest provides a meeting point for artists from across the world to collaborate on stage and inspire future generations with performances side-by-side. Through its international partnerships, Musicus Fest also serves as a springboard for burgeoning local talents to perform overseas and gain foreign exposure. • Musicus Heritage presents concerts and fringe activities at cherished Hong Kong historical sites, with a curated music program that reflects the specific cultural significance of the surroundings. The concerts also feature the world premiere of works by young Hong Kong composers, commissioned for and inspired by selected heritage sites. • Musicus Inspires! is an educational program which aims to cultivate students of all social backgrounds. The initiative includes the "Ensemble Training" program for aspiring young talents to learn from great masters in Hong Kong and abroad. Students are also encouraged to explore various aspects of music via "School Visits". In addition, promising young composers and instrumentalists are discovered and encouraged via the annual competitions of "Call for Scores" and "Young Artist Audition."
