___________________________________________________________ “The Path You Walk Upon” was originally written for the Northern Lights Children’s Choir to be performed in honor of graduating seniors at White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. While working on the lyrics, meant to send the seniors along their “paths,” I was drawn to use images from the natural world in the tradition of an Irish Blessing. While working on the second and third verses, I was driving to northern Minnesota for a weekend of dog sledding for girls and their adult companions. I kept having to pull the car over to record ideas!

The SATB, piano, and violin arrangement was created for the White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church Adult Choir, directed by Thaxter Cunio, who included it in their 2005 Walk in Beauty CD. This version, for SA and piano, was commissioned by O.H. Anderson Elementary School’s 5th grade choir, directed by P. Brett Smith, the year my daughter, Maggie, sang with them. A few years later an SSA, piano, and violin voicing was commissioned by The Mahtomedi High School Women’s Choir by their director, Rob Pontious.
