The Composer: Nicholas Wright (b. 1991) Nicholas (Nick) Wright regularly contributes to works of vocal and instrumental music as an arranger, composer, orchestrator, adjudicator, and clinician. His award-winning arrangements and compositions have been performed in a variety of venues including Carnegie Hall in New York; the World Expo in Shanghai, China; India’s most sacred performance space, Kalakshetra. Nick currently lives in Cincinnati, OH where he works as a composer and arranger. Since 2008 he has written for scholastic, semi-professional, and professional ensembles around the world.

Performance notes from the composer “One And The Same” by Octavio Paz, talks about the spaces quite literally between life and death, between now and when we were born, between comprehension. He uses abstract and beautiful language to create visuals like “white gardens that explode in air” and “place of impalpable nuptials”. This inspired in me the need to write complex harmonies that sound somewhat beyond our understanding to get these ideas across. This piece received its premiere on April 10, 2010 with the Miami University Chorale (Ethan Sperry, director).
