This setting of the traditional Latin text, Lux Aeterna, from the Requiem Mass was written in response to the senseless tragedy of the 2013 Boston Marathon. Dedicated to the city of Boston and all the victims of the bombing, especially Krystle Campbell, Martin William Richard, Lingzi Lu and MIT officer Sean Collier. The piece was premiered by Berklee College of Music’s Tenuto Chamber Singers on April 30, 2013 at the Old South Church — a stone’s throw away from the bomb site. Lux Aeterna is meant as a prayer for both the dead and the survivors. The use of both eis (“them”) and nobis (“us”) throughout the text is intentional.
