about the composer Dr. Seth Houston is associate chair for performance and director of choral activities at the University of California, Irvine, where he conducts UCI Chamber Singers, teaches conducting and composition, and oversees the musicianship curriculum. Prior to his appointment at UCI, Houston taught at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Houston holds a DMA degree in choral music from the University of Southern California, where he studied with Jo-Michael Scheibe, Morten Lauridsen, and Nick Strimple, as well as earlier degrees from the University of Michigan and Oberlin Conservatory of Music. A committed educator, Houston taught middle school and high school choir for nine years and directed youth ensembles with the Chicago Children’s Choir, Village Harmony, and Big Sky. Houston has presented research at national conferences of the College Music Society, National Collegiate Choral Organization, and American Brahms Society.
