for Trey Davis and the choirs of Louisiana State U niversity
Everyone Sang SATB
Siegfried Sassoon (1 886-1 967)
Kile Smith
Until rehearsal letter D (page 5), any singer other than the Basses may sing Voice 1 -3 in whatever octave is comfortable. The soloist sings from within the choir, and joins any voice part, when convenient, once each solo phrase ends. In this section, singers (including soloist) may vary individual rhythms at their pleasure: nothing should sound exact, although no one should rush or drag the tempo. That is, the tempo stays steady within an overall individual rubato. The middle section, letter D, is voiced in normal SATB and should be sung exactly as notated, with no rhythmic variation. Letter E to the end returns to the same voicing and same manner of singing as the opening section.
