Note from the Composer These tiny pieces are intended for use as preludes, interludes, postludes or at any point in a service of worship where connective music is needed. They are mostly quite brief, ranging from a diminutive twenty-six seconds to just under two minutes, hence “microludes.” Technical demands are mostly modest; experienced players will confidently sightread many of them. Only five call for the use of any pedal notes and three of those are on the last note only. Fourteen are free compositions; ten are based on chant or hymn tunes. Tonal centers and approximate durations are shown above. Given their brevity, these pieces mostly remain in the same key throughout. A few modulate away and then return to the beginning key. Only one modulates and insists on ending in the new key. Sometimes the music tells you where it wants to go. One tries to be accommodating.
