PMAC ‘Rock Camp’ Students Meet

Musician Mikaela Davis

On July 29, students from Portsmouth Music and Art Center (PMAC) walked to the Loft from their new center (!) at the end of their day of ‘Rock Camp’ to meet with young, emerging artist Mikaela Davis. Mikaela recently graduated college with a classical harp degree, but she has been touring for a few years now with her bandmates, making music with a unique ensemble of harp, keyboards, guitar, sitar, drums, vocals and bells.

Mikaela had a lot to share from the perspective of a musician still very new to the life of a professional artist. She spoke of everything from what elements comprise her professional team (“We have everything except a label”) to how to stay healthy when touring. Mikaela even addressed the not so glamorous aspects of touring, like driving a mini van all around the US because it fits all of their instruments and to the hard work of loading and unloading their equipment multiple times each day. When asked about getting discovered, Mikaela suggested YouTube to build a fan base and get attention.
