Summer is getting close! Zugegeben, bei normalem Aprilverlauf hat man es in Deutschland feucht genug von oben, und kein Mensch braucht Duschen aus dem Feuerwehrschlauch. Wissen wir. Aber wir sind eben auch der Meinung, dass gehörige Vorfreude nicht nur schon erlaubt, sondern angebracht ist. Wir finden: Leute! Es ist schon April! Wir haben‘s fast geschafft! Deshalb schwelgen wir diesmal im ersten Ausblick auf viele herrliche Psytrance Open Airs, die sich in Europa anbahnen. Längst sind die Festival-Teams emsig an der Arbeit, um uns im Sommer immer wieder unter glücklichsten Umständen zusammenzubringen. Ihnen gilt diesmal unsere besondere Aufmerksamkeit, und natürlich kommen auch schon einige Highlights der Festival-Saison zur Sprache. Zum Abschluss des Anne Clark Remix Contest können wir nun auch neue Abonnenten mit der CD der Gewinnertracks begrüßen. Leider ist es nicht möglich, die Platte auch nur zum Selbstkostenpreis an andere Interessierte abzugeben, ohne sich einen Berg finanzieller und lizenztechnischer Probleme einzubrocken. Wir bitten um Verständnis.

Admittedly in a normal German April we’re so thoroughly soaked from above that no one in their right mind could possibly crave a refreshing shower being hosed down by a fire truck. We know. But we also feel that a large dose of pleasant anticipation is appropriate and recommended. We say: People, it‘s April already and we’ve almost made it through! For this reason we indulge in a closer look at the many glorious psy trance open airs taking place in various corners of Europe. The festival teams have long started preparations to unite us this summer under the happiest circumstances again and again. Our special attention goes out to them, and of course we also look ahead to some of the festival season‘s highlights. To conclude the Anne Clark Remix Contest we are now offering new subscribers a copy of the CD featuring the winning tracks. Unfortunately it’s not possible for us to sell the record to other interested parties, even at cost price, without bringing a pile of financial and licensing stress upon ourselves. Den meisten Besuchern bleibt jedoch verborgen, welch immense Organisationsmaschinerie sich hinter den Kulissen eines Festivals verbirgt. Wir haben fünf Veranstalter internationaler Psytrance-Events nach den größten Herausforderungen befragt, denen sie sich jedes Jahr aufs Neue stellen müssen. Summer is close and most of us wait impatiently for the open air festivals to come. Stomping one’s feet under the sky while looking at the stars, smelling the warmth and experiencing a collective psygasm while dancing, is what we need after another too long time squashed indoors. But most visitors have no clue about the huge machinery that works behind the scenes of such a festival. We asked five organizers of international psytrance-events about the biggest challenges they have to face year by year. Das bedeutet vor allem, dieses große Ereignis in der wunderschönen, geschützten Landschaft zu veranstalten, ohne wesentlichen Scha-

den anzurichten. Des weiteren ist es uns wichtig, eine positive Botschaft rüberzubringen, also nicht nur auf der musikalischen Schiene zu fahren, sondern das Festival als kulturelles Gesamtwerk zu präsentieren. Zum Beispiel ist es uns ein großes Anliegen, das ökologische Bewusstsein der Masse zu schärfen. Zu guter Letzt ist es ganz entscheidend, mit einem stabilen und in sich schlüssigen Team zu arbeiten, das dieselben Ziele verfolgt und das Festival auf allen Händen gemeinsam zum Erfolg trägt. Das Kernteam besteht aus drei Personen, die im Mai vergangenen Jahres mit der Organisation begannen. Insgesamt helfen bis zum Ende so circa 200 bis 300 Leute mit. « »Our major challenge is related to environmental issues: Trying to make this festival as ecological as possible

is our top goal this year. We want to create this big event in such a beautiful and protected landscape without inflicting substantial damage to the surroundings. Other main goals include trying to pass on a positive message along with the festival and making it not only a musical event but also a cultural one. For example are we majorly concerned with bringing more ecological awareness to the crowd. Another task worth mentioning is the factor of working with a stable and coherent team, who shares the same goals and only together makes this festival a success. The main team is made up of three members. We started preparing this Festival in May of last year. The whole production team in the final stage is made up of around 200 to 300 workers.« www.freedom-festival.org

Germany Main organizer: Scotty »Wir möchten auf einer wunderschönen Location und mit dem allerfeinsten Soundsystem und Freunden und Menschen aus aller Welt gemeinsam feiern. Die größte Herausforderung dabei ist, in freier Natur innerhalb von nur vier Tagen einen schönen Partyspace für 10.000 Menschen aufzubauen und dabei noch genug Zeit zum Feiern für die Crew zu haben. Problematisch ist dabei, dass in Norddeutschland nicht immer die Sonne scheint ;-) Vier Personen arbeiten seit Dezember 2006 täglich an den Vorbereitungen. Die gesamte Crew mit Artists und Performern umfasst etwa 400 Personen. « »At our beautiful location we want to party together with friends and people from all over the world, surrounded by an impressive top sound system. The biggest challenge is to create a great party space for 10.000 people in free nature – and still allow the crew some free time to party as well. The problem is, that Northern Germany is not kissed by the sun every day ;-) Four people started working daily on the preps in December 2006. Hungary Main organizer: Balasz »O.Z.O.R.A versteht sich als wirkliches Underground Festival - mit der einzigen Regel, dass es keine Regeln gibt, wenn es um Dein psychedelisches Erlebnis geht. Die drei größten Herausforderungen für mein Team dabei sind jedes Jahr folgende: 1. Ein interessantes, aber gleichzeitig vielfältiges Line-up zusammenzubasteln ist eine der schwersten Aufgaben für jeden Veranstalter, und das ist bei uns nicht anders. Wir wollen die ganze Vielfalt des Psytrance zeigen, haben dabei aber höchste Qualitätsansprüche an die Live Acts und Top DJs. 2. Um der ungezähmten natürlichen Schönheit von Ozora Rechnung zu tragen, ist es jedes Jahr ein Balanceakt, die richtige Deko zu finden. Sie muss sich in die Gegebenheiten einfügen, sollte die Besucher aber trotzdem in eine magische visuelle Welt entführen, die besonders nachts erwartet wird. 3. Das Budget!! Unsere instabile Währung stellt uns vor das unüberschaubarste Problem.

Die Forint/Euro-Umrechnung ist unheimlich schwer, da unsere geliebte Währung innerhalb einer Woche Schwankungen von 10 bis 15 Prozent unterworfen sein kann. Während es scheint, als könnten andere Festivals mit einem unlimitierten Budget planen, müssen wir das Geld äußerst sorgfältig handhaben. Aber nicht sfür ungut, schließlich hilft uns dieser Faktor, wirklich nur das Allerbeste auszusuchen!« »O.Z.O.R.A is truly an underground festival where the only rule is that there are no rules or boundaries when it comes to your psychedelic experience. The three most challenging tasks for my team: 1. Putting an interesting and yet diverse line up together is one of the hardest tasks for a festival and that‘s not different with us. We always want to show diversity and yet give the people the highest quality of psy trance with the best live acts and with the top djs . 2. Because of Ozora‘s untaimed and wild beauty it is always a challenge to come up with a deco that fits right in and yet gives the trancers the visual magic that is expected at night. 3. The budget !! Our unstable currency gives us one of the most unmanagable problems. Our beloved currency can loose 10 to 15 percent in a week. While other festivals can have seemingly unlimited budget we are very straped for cash but on the good side this helps us select only the best. « www.ozorafest.hu

Italy Main organizer: Edoardo »Mit der Sonica wollen wir die Trance-Szene in Italien aufbauen, und wenn man sich anschaut, was seit der ersten Sonica vor zwei Jahren bis jetzt passiert ist, sind wir auf dem richtigen Weg. Mehr und mehr Leute beginnen sich für das Open-Air-Trance-Ding zu interessieren – Italien ist nun auch auf der Psytrance-Weltkarte zu finden! Das Allerwichtigste beim Organisieren ist allerdings auch das Allerlangweiligste: Man muss sich vor allem mit bürokratischen Dingen, also der Polizei, der Feuerwehr (...) herumschlagen, um alle Genehmigungen zu bekommen. Unser Ziel ist es, ein schöne, warme Umgebung zu kreieren. Großes Augenmerk dabei gilt dem Soundsystem. Wenn man dem Feedback glauben darf, das wir erhaltenen haben, findet man auf der Sonica eins der besten, die je auf Psytrance-Festivals standen. Zu fünft haben wir uns die Organisation des Festivals aufgeteilt, jeder mit einem

Spezialgebiet. Während des Festivals haben wir so um die 150 Helfer aus der ganzen Welt. Um die Wahrheit zu sagen: Seit der ersten Sonica haben wir nie aufgehört, zu planen. Natürlich ist es so, dass wir mehr zu tun haben, je näher die ganze Sache rückt, aber wir arbeiten und promoten eigentlich immer.« »With Sonica we want to create a trance scene in Italy, and since the first one happened 2 years ago, it looks like things are improving here. More and more people are getting close to the open air trance thing and Italy can now be found on the psytrance world map! The most important thing about organizing is the most boring one: dealing with bureaucracy to get all permissions needed! And for bureaucracy I also mean police, fire brigades (...). We want to create a nice and warm environment for the public. We give great importance to the sound system, and according to the great feedbacks we had, it seems like Sonica featured one of the best the psytrance festival scene ever saw. We are five partners at Sonica, each one with his tasks in the organization. I should say we never stopped working on Sonica since the first one. Obviously the more we get close the more we have to do, but we are always promoting it and working for it. Germany Main organizer: Chriss »Das Schwierigste an der Durchführung des Festivals ist sicherlich, etwa 300 Helfer zu koordinieren, um einen reibungslosen Ablauf zu gewährleisten, etwa 150 Artists aus aller Welt zu buchen, musikalisch zu koordinieren und dabei auf die einzelnen Wünsche einzugehen sowie die reibungslose Organisation der An- und Abreise der vielen Künstler (Flüge, Shuttleservice, Unterkünfte) zu planen. Die Organisation für das Fullmoon Festival hat im Oktober 2006 begonnen. Unser Kernteam besteht aus sechs Personen, während des Events sind es dann etwa 300 Personen.« »The hardest tasks of the festival are to coordinate about 300 helpers, do the bookings of around 150 artists from all over the world and the musical coordination to assure a smooth event. Not to be forgotten the individual preferences and the challenge of letting the arrival/departure of the various artists (flights, shuttle service, accomodation) go off without a hitch. Mit dem beginnenden Frühling auf der Nordhalbkugel fängt für viele von uns die Vorfreude auf die Open Airs an. Doch was genau braucht man eigentlich, um ein fettes Festival für 3000 Gäste zu organisieren?

Als Erstes solltest du dich um eine passende Location kümmern. Zu beachten dabei ist, genug Platz für Autos, Zelte, Bühnen und Stände sowie eindeutige Zugangsknoten für Crew, Gäste und Krankenwagen zu haben. Mit einbeziehen solltest Du die Erreichbarkeit mit Öffis und Möglichkeiten, in nahegelegenen Supermärkten einkaufen zu gehen und Bankautomaten zu erreichen, besonders wenn du mit internationalen Gästen rechnest. Sobald Du die richtige Location gefunden hast, miete sie und kümmer dich um die notwendigen Genehmigungen der zuständigen Behörden. Als nächster Schritt folgt eine Kalkulation. Leg ein Budget für das gesamte Event fest und lass Dir zuerst die Fixkosten bestätigen (Sanitätsbereich, Erste Hilfe, Catering, Strom, bezahlte Helfer, Security), so dass Du dann den Rest auf die Posten Künstler, Performer, Workshops, Licht, Sound und Deko aufteilen kannst. Es kann ziemlich knifflig werden, bei den Ausgaben für die Künstler die Balance zwischen Kosten und dem, was das Publikum erwartet, zu

halten. Nimm dabei am besten die Stimmung, die Du auf dem Festival entstehen lassen willst, als Maßstab und orientier Dich bei der Auswahl der Künstler daran. Jetzt kannst Du anfangen, Dein Festival publik zu machen. Doch mit Postern, Flyern und Anzeigen in Magazinen solltest Du warten, bis Du genügend bestätigte Buchungen der Künstler hast, Du willst ja nicht mit ungelegten Eiern werben. PartyWebseiten sind für den Anfang eine gut Sache, da sie zum einen kostenlos sind und Dir außerdem die Möglichkeit geben, Änderungen schnell bekanntzugeben. Solltest Du noch keinen Grafiker zur Hand haben, such Dir einen guten, der Dir eine Website sowie die Flyer und die Poster designt. Ein Flyer, der auffällt, wird viel eher beachtet und betrachtet. Es ist wirklich viel wert, jemanden zu bezahlen, der seine Arbeit gut macht, bevor Du Dich mit einem eigenen, eilig dahingekritzelten Entwurf unglücklich machst. Jetzt ist der Zeitpunkt gekommen, Dich um die Infrastruktur zu kümmern: Top-Lichttechnik und Sound als auch Catering, Security, sanitäre Anlagen, Strom und frisches Wasser sind entscheidend, um eine sichere und saubere Umgebung zu schaffen, in der sich alle wohlfühlen. Beginne früh, Dich um Reise-Arrangements für die Künstler zu kümmern, denn Buchungen im Voraus sind generell am günstigsten. Stell die Flyer und die Poster fertig und lass sie all denen zukommen,

die Dein Festival promoten sollen. Achte dabei darauf, sie in regelmäßigen zeitlichen Abständen zu verteilen, denn tust Du es zu früh, vergisst die Hälfte es wieder, tust Du es dagegen zu spät, hat die andere Hälfte ihre Zeit schon anderweitig verplant. Jetzt gibst Du die Tickets in Druck, so dass der Vorverkauf beginnen kann. Und denk an die Armbändchen, die Du für Tag X brauchst! Sobald Du alle Buchungen hast, kannst Du endlich die Festivaltage an sich fokussieren. Die Line-ups sollten an die Künstler, die Crew und alle anderen, für die sie wichtig sein könnten, rausgehen, so dass alle planen können, wann sie an Ort und Stelle sind. Plane Verspätungen großzügig ein – sie werden Dich sonst überrennen. Auch Krankheitsfälle könnten eintreten, deshalb beherzige den Ratschlag, die Leute in Pärchen einzuteilen, damit sie sich gegebenenfalls ersetzen können. Zu guter Letzt noch der Tipp, genug Wechselgeld für die Shops einzuplanen (es lohnt sich, ein kleines Büro einzurichten, das sich um Finanzielles kümmert). Auch solltest du über alles, was passiert, einen Überblick haben. Am allerwichtigsten ist jedoch: Versuch, das Festival trotz des ganzen Stresses zu genießen! Aus Fehlern kann man nur lernen. Die Theorie hilft natürlich eine Menge bei der Planung, aber nur die Erfahrung wird Dir zeigen, wie man ein solches Festival zu etwas ganz Besonderem machen kann! ;-)

With the increasingly frequent signs of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, many of us will be looking forward to the festival-filled months ahead, but just what does one need to consider when holding an event for 3000 revellers?

Especially if this is your first event, allow plenty of time for preparing everything as it is unlikely that a festival will come to much if everything is done at the last minute. At first, find a suitable location. Important things to look for are plenty of space for parking, camping, stages & stalls and clear access points to and from the site for the crew, guests and emergency services. Features like public transport and nearby shops and cash points are worth considering too, especially when catering for an international audience. Once you have your site, book it and make sure you have permission from all the relevant authorities (e.g. fire, health & safety, police). Next, lay down a budget for the entire event. Try and confirm fixed costs (e.g. sanitation, catering, electricity, paid staff, security) first so that you can safely allocate the rest towards artists, performers, workshops, lighting & sound and decorations. Regarding how much to spend on deco and artists, finding a balance between cost and crowd appeal is tricky, but try and provide something that supports the vibe you‘re trying to create. Also, start spreading the word. Although posters, flyers and magazine

advertising should be left until you have enough confirmed to justify printing costs, forums and party listing sites are usually free and can be easily amended as things progress. If you haven‘t already, try and find a good graphic artist to design your website, flyers, posters, etc… An eye-catching flyer is more likely to be read and remembered so it‘s worth paying someone to do the job properly, rather than just doing a rush job yourself. Now you can start arranging the infrastructure around the festival. Good lighting and sound, catering, security, toilets, electricity and clean water are all vital to creating a safe, clean environment for all to enjoy. You should also start looking at travel arrangements for your artists as booking well in advance will usually cost much less. Finalise your flyers and posters and start distributing them. Spread your distribution out over the available time period, do it all too early and it may be forgotten, too late and folk may have other plans.

Once you have arranged everything you need, you can turn your focus to the day to day running of the festival. Timetables for artists and crew should be sent to all those they concern so that people know when and where they‘ll be needed. Remember to allow for delays and or illnesses and where possible, pair people up so that they can provide cover for each other. Krzys Heaton

Das Ergebnis dieser Rechnung (»Profit«) ist die Entlohnung des Veranstalterteams für viele Monate Arbeit. Kommen weniger Gäste als erwartet, gibt es weniger Profit oder die Veranstalter müssen draufzahlen. Günstig und gesellig ist es in der Jugendherberge. Über die Website iyhf.org (International Youth Hostel Federation) kann man weltweit aus 4.000 Herbergen auswählen und auch gleich online buchen. Das Portal Gomio.com ist ein Zusammenschluss von 20 europäischen Hostel-Unternehmen mit Häusern in 46 Ländern. Weiterführende Infos zu so ziemlich jedem Land sowie vielen Regionen und Städten gibt es im Reiseführer Lonely Planet, der mittlerweile auch schon in mehrere Sprachen übersetzt wurde. Die Onlineversion lonelyplanet.com bietet neben alternativen Reiseinfos und Buchungsmöglichkeiten für Flüge und Hostels auch ein Travellerforum, Reisegeschichten, Blogs, Videos, Kleinanzeigen und vieles mehr. Harte Fakten gibt es bei Answers. com. Dieses Portal fragt nach Eingabe eines Suchbegriffes einfach eine ganze Reihe von Informationsquellen auf einmal ab und präsentiert die Ergebnisse übersichtlich geordnet, nachdem man zum Beispiel einen Ländernamen eingegeben hat. Wer über allgemeine Informationen über das Reiseland hinaus auch die regionale Tranceszene kennen lernen möchte, der sollte sich früh genug in wichtige Foren einloggen und auf internationale Freundes-

suche gehen. Ein wichtiger Anlaufpunkt für Ziele in Europa ist natürlich Goabase.com. With infrared and radio telescopes astronomers can see the OM-shaped galactic center. In the middle of this OM-shaped minigalaxy a massive rotating black hole is situated. The black hole is a concentration of several millon times the mass of our sun in a small space, smaller than the size of our sun. Gravity is so strong that no light can escape. We can see only the stars that encircle the black hole and eventually are drawn inside. This black hole is the center of a gigantic matter/energy converter called the Milkyway. A jet of neutrinos and other exotic particles is emitted from both its poles. A charged plasma ring arond the black hole periodically bursts energy and particles into the galaxy. Atomic Pulse Atomic Pulse sind Tamir Ozana and Yair Bar-On aus Holon in Israel. 2001 hatten sie mit » Valirus« und »Optical Vibes« zusammen mit Astrix und »Noise Freak« ihre ersten Smashhits und betraten ein Jahr später mit ihrem Album »The Safi Collection« die internationale Trance Bühne. Endeckt worden waren die beiden von DJ Dede, auf dessen Label Spectrum auch ihre ersten beiden Alben erschienen. Das bisher dritte erschien im letzten Jahr auf YoYo/ BNE. Die ersten Atomic-Pulse-Tracks entstanden in Kooperation mit Avi Shmailov, besser bekannt als Astrix, der dem Pulsschlag zusätzlichen Drive mitgab. Die Reihe der Kollaborationen lässt sich schier endlos fortführen, beim Remixen waren die beiden auch sehr fleißig und ihre Tracks befanden sich schon auf Compis von so ziemlich allen Labels die es in dieser Szene gibt. Es kamen mehr Melodien, progressive Einflüsse und Technorhythmen hinzu, massentaugliche Melodien für Millionen und epische Breaks. Ich als alter Raver freue mich schon auf das vierte Album der beiden, das diesen Monat in Europa ankommen soll. Atomic Pulse are Ozana and Yair Bar-On from Holon in Israel. In 2001 they had their first smash hits »Valirus« and »Optical Vibes« together with Astrix as well

as with »Noise Freak«. One year later they made their appearance onto the international trance stage with their album »The Safi Collection«. They had been discovered by DJ Dede and their first two albums appeared on his label Spectrum. The third was released last year on Yoyo/BNE. Their first tracks were made together with Avi Shmailov, better known as Astrix, which gave some extra drive for the Atomic Pulse. The list of collaborations can be continued ad infinitum from there, and also in the remix field the two have kept busy and their tracks have been featured on compilations from almost every label in the scene. Their music has undergone a continual development in the last six years. Initially it was focussed on psychedelic for the night, but already on the last album it became clear that their sound was morphing towards a more mainstream style. More melodies came in as well as progressive influences and techno beats as well as large crowd melodies for the masses with epic breaks. Im Sommer 2005, als sich der Gesang im Psytrance langsam etablierte, da fiel mir auf der BNE-Compilation »Un:Balanced« ein Track besonders auf. Es war der Titeltrack, der mich mit rollenden, satten Bässen zum Zappeln animierte und in dem weiblicher Gesang mich gleichzeitig anheben ließ. Irgendwie war der Gesang in dem Track besser arrangiert als bei vergleichbaren Tracks und die Frau war mit June Rashava auch mal nicht die ewige Michelle. Die Musik beschreibt man am besten als FullOn mit poppiger Attitüde. Psytrance mit deutlich elektronischen Einflüssen. Ein Blick auf die CD verriet mir, dass der Interpret Time Lock hieß. Felix Nagorsky heißt der Künstler mit bürgerlichem Namen, er

produziert schon seit 1997 und war einmal die Hälfte des Projektes PPS. 2004 erschien sein Debütalbum als Time Lock auf ZMA in Griechenland und im Januar 2005 die bisher letzte Vinylsingle bei YoYo. Ursprünglich kommt Felix aus Russland und lebt inzwischen in Israel, wo er zur Zeit im Studio sitz und an seinem neuen Album arbeitet. Es soll demnächst bei BNE erscheinen. When vocals slowly started integrating themselves in psy trance in the summer of 2005 one particular track caught my attention on a BNE compilation »Un:Balanced«. It was the title track which got me wiggling with rolling fat basses and the female vocals made me fly at the same time. Somehow the vocal arrangement was better than on comparable tracks and the voice for once wasn’t Michele’s, but June Rashava’s. It could best be described as full on with a pop attitude, psy trance with electro influences. A glance at the CD told me the artist was called Time Lock. Felix Nagorsky is his legal name, he has been producing

since 1997 and was at one time half of the PPS project. 2004 saw the release of his debut album as Time Lock on ZMA from Greece, and in January of 2005 the last vinyl single appeared on YoYo. Mexican Art from San Francisco Unser Cover-Artist in diesen Monat, Guillermo Alarcon aka EgNogRa, wurde in Mexico-City geboren, wo er 1997 das erste Mal Kontakt mit der Psy Trance Szene hatte. Seit diesem unvergesslichen Erlebnis fühle er sich als Teil eines höheren kollektiven Bewusstseins, sagt er. Und begann mit dem, was er »Digitale Alchemie« nennt. Doch es brauchte einige Jahre, bis Guillermo seine Mission gefunden hatte. Er fing ein Studium in Film and Animation in Houston, Texas an und ging danach nach San Francisco. So begann er, am Rechner seine eigenen Visuals zu bauen und Videos zu schneiden. 2005 gründete Guillermo Shaman Films Records mit der Vision, visuelle Künstler Musiker zusammenzubringen. Obwohl EgNogRa schon lange in den Staaten lebt, hat er seine mexikanischen Wurzeln nie vergessen. Er ist stolz auf den psychedelischen Background, der in der mexikanischen Kultur tief verankert ist, was in seinen Arbeiten immer wieder deutlich wird. Die Veröffentlichung seiner »Engrams Vol.1 Luminaria 2012« CD/DVD, auf der viele Dark Psy DJs der San Francisco Bay Area vertreten sind, wird ein unvergessliches Projekt für ihn bleiben. Er arbeitete dafür mit mexikanischen VJs zusammen – für ihn der perfekte Weg, einmal die neueste digitale Kunst aus Mexiko und ihre Kultur zu präsentieren. Der Künstler liebt das Absurde und das Bizarre und sieht beides als eine heilenden Weg für Seele und Geist an ;0)

Our cover artist Guillermo Alarcon aka EgNogRa was born in Mexico City, where he had his first contact with psytrance in 1997. Since then, he says, he felt activated by a higher collective universal consciousness to make what he calls »Digital Alchemy«. After he had moved to Houston, Texas to study Film and Animation, Guillermo headed off to San Francisco. He started to produce his own visuals with his favorite programs Maya, 3d Max to animate and create compostes, as well as cut video on a PC. In 2005 EgNogRa founded Shaman Films Records with the vision to create an outlet for visual artists and electronic muscians. Although he is living in the States now, his Mexican background influences him a lot. EgNogRa is proud of the psychedelic tradition that has always been a part of the religion in Mexico and ties this up to his work. The finish of his release »Engrams Vol.1 Luminaria 2012«, a CD/DVD featuring the most interesting dark psy artists from the San Francisco bay area, was a perfect way to show the most recent digital artwork coming out of Mexico and to demostrate the talent of this culture. G8 Summit: Another World is Possible! Anfang Juni ist es soweit: Diverse Organisationen rufen zu Aktionen rund um das Treffen der führenden Industriestaaten (G8) auf. Nach dem Treffen in St. Peterburg, als Russland den Vorsitz innehatte, wurde auch dieses Mal wieder ein Ostseedomizil ausgewählt. Die Repräsentanten der G8 - Japan, Italien, Frankreich, Großbritannien, Kanada, den USA, Deutschland und Russland - debattieren vom 6. bis zum 8. Juni unter deutscher Präsidentinnenschaft im beschaulichen Heiligendamm in MeckPom. Die jährlich wiederkehrenden Themen sind die weltweite Wirtschafts, Entwicklungs- und Währungspolitik. Ein weiterer Punkt auf dem informellen Treffen wird der Klimawandel sein, der mindestens jede Dekade in den Medien thematisiert wird und zwangsläufig auch von den verursachenden Industriestaaten aufgegriffen werden muss. Auf dieser Zusammenkunft ohne echte Legitimation, bei dem jegliche Kritik draußen bleiben muss, werden die Weichen für die Globalisierung gestellt. Viele Gruppen stellen in Frage, dass die G8-Staaten ihrer Verantwortung gerecht werden, und fordern eine soziale Globalisierung. Zur Auftaktdemonstration am 2. According to the World Bank 67 percent of the global gross national income originated in the G8 countries in 2006, which however only make up 13,7 percent of the world’s population. Many groups raise the question that the G8 states have to meet their responsibilities and demand a social globalisation. One more Area of Freedom gone Früh morgens am 1. März begannen Anti-Terror-Einheiten der dänischen Polizei, das Kopenhagener Ungdomshuset (Jugendhaus) zu stürmen. Das einst leerstehende Haus war 1982 besetzt worden, nach Verhandlungen entstand dort ein selbst verwaltetes Kulturzentrum. Im Laufe der Jahre bot der erkämpfte Freiraum vielen Gruppen und kulturellen Aktivitäten Raum. Mitunter diente das Gebäude auch als Veranstaltungsort für PsyTrance-Partys. Ende der 90er wollte die Stadt das Haus loswerden. Es kam zu einer Verkaufsodyssee, an deren Ende die christliche Sekte Faderhuset (Vaterhaus) als neuer Besitzer stand. Die sozialdemokratische Stadtregierung Kopenhagens lehnte jeden Dialog mit Vertretern des Jugendhauses ab und wählte den Weg der Konfrontation. Noch Tage nach der Stürmung kam es zu schweren Auseinandersetzungen, bei denen die Polizei Tränengas einsetzte und mit ihren Einsatzfahrzeugen einzelne Protestler rammte. Es gab 650 Verhaftungen, das Gebäude ist inzwischen abgerissen worden. Für mehrere Wochen kam es europaweit zu Solidaritätsaktionen zwischen Helsinki, Istanbul und London. In Deutschland zum Beispiel nicht nur in linken Hochburgen wie Hamburg und Berlin, sondern selbst in Städten wie Kiel, Nürnberg oder Recklinghausen.

In the early morning hours of the 1st of March anti terror units of the Danish police stormed the Ungdomshuset (Youth house) in Copenhagen. The building which had once been unused had been squatted in 1982 and after negotiations an autonomous cultural centre was founded. Throughout the years this hard won free space was the location for many groups and cultural activities. Among them the building also served as a location for trance parties. At the end of the nineties the city council wanted to rid itself of the building. This resulted in a sales odyssey at the end of which the christian sect Faderhuset (father house) became the owner. The social democratic city council of Copenhagen rejected every dialogue with the representatives of the cultural centre and instead chose the path of confrontation. Even days after the storming of the building there were heavy conflicts, in which the police made use of tear gas and rammed individual protestors with their riot vehicles. 650 arrests were made and the building has been torn down by now. For several weeks there were solidarity demonstrations throughout Europe ranging from Helsinki and Istanbul to London. Indische Polizei sperrt eine Party ein Wieder ist in Indien eine Psytrance-Party aufgelöst worden. Die Polizei fuhr Anfang März alle rund 280 Gäste einer Feier bei Puna ein, inklusive Veranstalter und DJs. Außer dem Inder Shivamoon, Labelmanager bei Rudraksh-Records, waren das auch seine beiden deutschen Labelartists Chuha und Daksinamurti – was in der hiesigen Szene Besorgnis und eine Welle der Solidarität ausgelöst hat. Es gab schon zwei Benefizpartys, um Geld für die Kosten des ungewollt langen Indienaufenthaltes zu sammeln, für April sind weitere geplant. Während die meisten Inhaftierten gegen Bluttests und Kaution schnell wieder aus dem nicht gerade luxuriösen indischen Knast entlassen worden waren, blieben die beiden Deutschen unter dem Verdacht des Drogenhandels eingesperrt. Der leitet sich unter anderem aus den vielen Indien-Reisen Daksinamurtis ab – er studiert Indiologie – und aus relativ viel mitgeführtem Bargeld, bei dem es sich allerdings auch um die Reisekassen der Jungs handeln könnte. A Psychedelic State of Affairs The Indian psychedelic scenario seems to be at the verge of singing its swan song. November witnessed Moondust, the first-ever Indian trance festival, which survived only 3 days. This news created chaos for organizers across the country, even Goa seems to be quite dead as far as party life is concerned, for the second consecutive season. In addition to all this, a party held at the foothills of the historic Sinhgad fort about 30 kilometres from Pune city was raided on 7th March. The raid was heavily highlighted by the media, the narcotics department ended up putting all 280 people at the party along with the organizers behind bars. Two German DJs, Chuha and Daksinamurti who had played at the party in addition to Shivamoon, label manager at Rudraksh-Records were also imprisoned. Although partygoers were granted bail on basis of blood samples, the police showed absolutely no mercy to the German DJs. They were defamed as »drug peddlers«. After 18 days in jail, during which their mothers have travelled to India and intervened they are now out on bail as well, but have to stay in the country until trial, four weeks at least. Many people from the German scene are very upset, some organised benefit parties to help the guys pay for the long stay in India. Police claim to have seized two-and-half kilograms of marijuana at the party amongst other drugs as well as beer cans, music systems, 45 cars, 29 two-wheelers and a number of mobile phones. A new, rational view on Drugs A recent study from the UK proposes a new »rational scale to assess the harm of drugs«. Er beschert uns einen druckvollen Flug durch die Welten des psychedelic Full on. Schöne, verspielte Melodien animieren einen zum Mitpfeifen, das macht einen ausgelassen und fröhlich. Beide CDs haben in etwa den gleichen Druck, wobei die zweite erst gegen Ende ihre schönsten Tracks offenbart, mit denen die Geschwindigkeit wieder herausgenommen wird und das Set einen würdigen Abschluss bekommt. Bisher kümmerten sich Matti Elsinen und Markku Louhio, die sonst auch als Highpersonic Whomen und Headphonics firmieren, bei Kiwa um mehrheitlich dunkle, mystische Break-Tracks. Doch dieses Album dürfte nun auch ganz andere Leute entzücken und zum großen Duchbruch dieses Projekts führen; es ist ein richtig sattes, vertricktes progressives Album im Soundrausch, sehr gut produziert, klangverliebt wie Freq, intelligent wie Decoy. Nachdem es um Index ID ruhig wurde, kehrt Ralf Uhrland fünf Jahre nach »Expedition» mit einer neuen Scheibe zurück, die etwas leichtgängiger, aber auch vielseitiger und pointierter erscheint. Die breakig-elektronischen und stets stylischen Chillouttracks sind dubbig, clubbig, trancig, verspielt-vertrackt und bieten eine Vielzahl spannender Begegnungen mit der tiefen Klangwelt von Index ID, in die man sich einhören muss. Und man beachte: Der Sound wurde nicht mit dem Dritten Raum verglichen. Hörenswert. After things turned quiet around Index ID, Ralf Uhrland returns 5 years after »Expedition« with a new record which is slightly easier to listen to but also appears much more varied and to the point. Ambient-Pop auf Elektrolux, da musste ich erst schlucken, erwartete ich wieder einmal zu seichten, café-del-marigen Sound. Das Label bleibt aber seiner Linie treu, der Sound ist zwar verspieltschmusig, wird aber nicht zu flach. Die 14 Stücke bilden unterschiedliche Poprichtungen ab, enthalten zumeist weibliche Vocals und sind das Richtige für einen flauschig-fluffigen Sonntagnachmittag. Auf der Scheibe versammeln sich übliche Elektroluxverdächtige wie Aural Float, Fresh Moods, Fous de la Mer oder Groovecatcher. Ambient pop on Elektrolux, initially this made me swallow uneasily as I was expecting shallow Café del Mar styled sound. However the label remains true to its direction; the sound offered is playful and smoochy but still has depth. 14 tracks highlight different pop sub streams, contain mostly female vocals and are exactly the right thing for relaxing on a fluffy Sunday afternoon. Psyradio.fm Update Ein halbes Jahr ist es jetzt her, dass die mushroom Redaktion die Gestaltung des Musikprogrammes auf Psyradio.fm übernam. Am 10.März wurde nun der Start von zwei weiteren Steams (Psy und Chill) mit einer sehr elitären Party in Psyradio Studio Duisburg begossen. Zusätzlich zur Heimatseite Psyradio.fm werden die aktuell gespielten Tracks nun auch auf goabase.com und mushroom-online.com angezeigt. Weitere Partnerseiten werden folgen. Für kleine Bandbreiten steht neben dem MP3-Stream für alle Channels auch AAC+ zur Verfügung, welcher bei gleicher Qualität nur 64kbit statt 128 kbit Bandbreite benötigt. 10 years ago - mushroom magazine April 1997 Der April 1997 stand für den mushroom ganz unter dem Motto der Dritte Raum, denn neben der Aufmacher-Story waren Andreas Krüger und Ralf Uhrland auch zu Gast bei der vom mushroom präsentierten »Trommelmaschine«-Party im Bremer Schlachthof. Jens Zygar vom Star Sounds Orchestra erklärte im zweiten Interview, wie man Stücke komponiert, dessen Frequenz dem Tagestons der Erde entspricht, welche sich widerum aus den Umdrehungen der Erde um sich selbst errechnet. Kai Mathesdorf schliesslich, damals noch der »photoman« des mushroom magazines, berichtete unter anderem von einer Open Air Party, bei der die Veranstalter ihm den Film aus der Kamera entfernten, weil fotografieren auf Partys in der damaligen Tranceszene ein Tabuthema war. Event des Monats war die Blue Room Releases Party im Dortmunder Soundgarden mit den Live Acts Koxbox, Total Eclipse und X-Dream sowie diversen DAT-Jockeys wie beispielsweise Marc van der Vlught und seinem Vater Dry Ice im Chill Out, der es dort auch schon mal richtig krachen lies.

Andreas Krüger (Der Dritte Raum): »Wir benutzen die alten Atari ST mit Cubase und machen das ähnlich wie DJs Während das eine Stück läuft wird das andere nachgeladen.« »We use old Atari ST s with Cubase and do this similar to DJs, while one track is playing the next track is being loaded.« Kai Mathesdorf: »Das geile an der Goaszene ist die nette Mischung. Besides the main story Andreas Krüger and Ralf Uhrland were among the guests at the party presented by mushroom at the »Trommelmaschine« in Bremen. In the second interview Jens Zygar of Star Sounds Orchestra explained how to write tracks whose basic frequency resonated at the daily tone of the Earth, which can be calculated from the revolutions of the earth around its own axis.

Finally Kai Mathesdorf, then still the »photoman« of mushroom magazine reported from an outdoor party where the organisers removed the film from his camera as taking pictures at a party in those days was taboo. The event of the month was the Blue Room release party in Dortmund’s Soundgarden with live acts such as Koxbox, Total Eclipse and X-Dream as well as various DAT jockeys such as Marc van der Vlught as well as his father Dry Ice in the chill out, who really stirred things up there.

Nach ihrer Mastering-Arbeit für unsere CD mit den Anne-Clark-Remixen wird es Zeit, Euch die drei Jungs vom Sonoa Tonstudio in Hamburg auf St. Pauli mal etwas vorzustellen. Alexander Behrens, Riewert Petersen und Bennet Wischmann gründeten das Studio im Februar 2006 im Karostar Musikhaus am Neuen Kamp, es bietet alle Möglichkeiten der Audio-Aufnahme und –Bearbeitung. Mit voll klimatisiertem Aufnahmeraum von 40 Quadratmetern und einer Regie von etwa 15 Quadratmetern ist das Studio in der Lage, vom kompletten Orchester bis zum einzelnen Vocalrecording alles zu realisieren. Neben einer umfangreichen Mikrofonierung steht in der Regie umfangreiche Digital- und Analogtechnik zur Verfügung. Realisiert werden bei Sonoa alle Arten von Bandrecordings, Sprachaufnahmen für Film und Fernsehen, Sounddesign bis hin zum kompletten Mix und Mastering.

Das Herz der drei Jungs hängt jedoch an der elektronischen Musik, und sobald die Zeit es zulässt, basteln sie an eigenen Projekten, von denen Midi Terranien (Riewert Petersen und Nils Voermann) wohl das bekannteste ist. Anfragen aus der „Elektroindustrie“ sind bei Sonoa sehr gerne gesehen und man kann sich sicher sein, zu sehr fairen Preisen beste Arbeit zu bekommen.
