erst mal, dass wir alle Teilnehmer der Umfrage so lange auf die Gewinnerliste haben warten lassen. Wer die vielen Preise bekommt, ist inzwischen online nachzulesen. Die unerwartet hohe Beteiligung am Remix Contest, die verschiedenen Projekte im Tagesgeschäft - kurz: der ganze Arbeitsaufwand der letzten Wochen hatte uns organisatorisch leider etwas überfordert. Die Redaktion schämt sich sehr für die Verzögerung! Aber wir sind nun mal ein kleines Team ohne Budgets, um schnell Hilfe zu chartern, wenn es eng wird. In dieser Ausgabe wird nun der Anne Clark Remix Contest aufgelöst, Interviews mit allen Preisträgern stehen online, die fünf Künstler mit den beliebtesten Remixen stellen wir Dir auch in diesem Heft vor. Danke noch mal an alle Beteiligten, vor allem an die Kreativen, die uns 250 (!) Remixe geschickt haben. Auf mushroom-online.com hast Du in letzter Zeit vielleicht schon die Neuerungen begutachtet, nicht zuletzt ist die Seite deutlich schneller geworden. Unter anderem gibt‘s nun immer eine Umfrage, zur Zeit geht es um Deine Vorstellung vom perfekten Webradio.

first of all that we kept all participants of our survey waiting for the list of winners. By now a list of all those that have won one of the many prices has been published online. The unexpectedly high number of remixes we received for our remix contest, as well as various projects in our day to day business - in short all the work that had to be done in the last few weeks have slightly challenged our working structures. Our editorial staff is very embarrassed about the delay! But we are a small team without the budget to quickly charter additional personnel when things pile up. In this edition the Anne Clark Remix Contest is resolved, interviews with all winners are available online, and the five artists of the most popular remixes are also introduced in this publication. A big thank you goes out to all those involved, especially to the creative spirits who all in all sent in 250 (!) remixes. Perhaps you have also already seen the changes at mushroom-online.com, not in the least the site works much faster now. Furthermore at this moment we have a survey focussing on your concept of perfect web radio.

Anne the Winners are ... 250 Beiträge im Anne Clark Remix Contest - wer mit uns online darüber abgestimmt hat, der weiß, wie schwer die Entscheidung fiel!

250 contributions for the Anne Clark remix contest – all of you that voted with us online know how hard it was to come to a decision!

Zwei Tracks standen ja im Contest zur Auswahl, Annes (Sprech-) Gesangsspur von »Closed Circuit« und das mit Floating Stone eingespielte »Dittany«, übrigens der Name eines alten griechischen Heilkrauts. Naturgemäß sind viele Downbeat- und Chill-Remixe eingereicht worden, doch das musikalische Spektrum reicht in viele Ecken der elektronischen Musik, und natürlich gibt es Trance in etlichen Arten. Der Remix-Player bleibt noch eine Weile auf www. mushroom-online.com erhalten, und definitiv wird es für unsere Neu-Abonnenten bald die Gewinnertracks auf CD geben. Über weitere Veröffentlichungen ist noch nicht abschließend entschieden worden. Die Wahl der elf Preisträger kam in drei Teilen zustande: Im Online-Voting von knapp 2000 Leuten und durch die Meinungen von Anne Clark und der mushroomJury. So bekamen die Remixe Punktzahlen, aus der sich die finale Top Eleven ergibt. Erster im reinen Online-Voting ist FinalTrace, bei der mushroomJury lag tago_bln hauchdünn vorne. Annes Nummer eins frk1 platzierte sich nicht ganz oben, aber auch Helmut Benesch gehört zu ihren Favoriten. Übrigens ist nicht ein einziger Remix ohne Stimme geblieben. Klar, dass einige wenige es bei so einem Voting auch auf unfairen Wegen probieren, das hatten wir aber im Griff: Niemand hat mehr als einmal gevotet. Bleibt nur noch, uns Annes Worten aus vollem Herzen anzuschließen (siehe Extratext) - ach, und: Wir bereiten für Ende des Jahres einen neuen Remix Contest vor ...

Two tracks were available for the contest: Anne’s (spoken) vocals from »Closed Circuit« and the track played with Floating Stone »Dittany«, which incidentally is the name of an ancient Greek healing herb. As expected many downbeat and chill remixes were entered, however the musical spectrum reaches into many corners of electronic music, and of course there is trance in many variations. The remix player will remain online for a little while longer and new subscribers will definitely receive the winning tracks on CD in the near future. A final decision has so far not been made about possible further releases. The selection of the eleven winners was made in three sections: The online voting with over 2000 votes cast, and the opinions of Anne Clark and the mushroom jury. In this way each remix was awarded points which were used to rate the eleven most wanted remixes. First in the pure online voting is FinalTrace, and the mushroom jury selected tago_bin by a hairs breadth. Anne’s top track frk1 didn’t quite make it to the top. Helmut Benesch was also one of her favourites. An interesting fact: not one remix was left without a vote. Obviously a few participants will always try to get ahead unfairly, but we were in control of this and no one was able to cast their vote more than once. All that remains to be done now is to join in with Anne’s words wholeheartedly (see extra text) – oh and: we are preparing a new remix contest for the end of the year ... Claus Baldauf

Die meisten Punkte erreichte im Contest ein triphoppiger DownbeatRemix von »Dittany«, eingereicht von moproduction aka Manuel Belmonte, Deutschitaliener aus Bochum. Versatzstücke der Vocalspur erzeugen einen hypnotischen Sog, bis Anne im Break ganz zu Wort kommt - die ihm übrigens bisher nur aus ihrer Kooperation mit Blank & Jones ein Begriff war. Der 25-jährige Software-Entwickler arbeitet daran, Musik und Events zu seinem Beruf zu machen, um eines Tages tanzwütige Massen mit seinem Sound beglücken zu können und damit seine jetzt fast ein Jahr alte Tochter Joanne zu ernähren. Wie man am Remix hört, ist Manuel keineswegs auf Trance festgelegt. Nicht zuletzt hat er auch ein Herz für Rock. Zur Zeit faszinieren ihn HipHop-Einflüsse besonders. Manuel gewinnt eine Vollversion Steinberg Cubase 4. The highest score in the contest was reached by a triphoppy downbeat remix by »Dittany«, entered by moproduction aka Manuel Belmonte; a German/Italian from Bochum. Offset sections of the vocal create a hypnotic undertow until Anne Clark gets centre stage in the break – whom he so far only knew from her cooperation with Blank & Jones. The 25 year old software designer is working on making music and events into his profession in order to someday enliven dancers with his sound and nurture his almost one year old daughter Joanne. As you can hear in the remix Manuel is by no means fixated on trance. He even has a passion for rock, but at this time is especially fascinated with hip hop influences. Aus Graz in Österreich kommt der Remix mit der insgesamt zweitbesten Punktzahl des Wettbewerbs. Helmut Benesch hat eine ruhige, sehr songorientierte »Dittany«Fassung abgeliefert, die bewusst stark mit den vorhandenen Vocals und Instrumentalspuren arbeitet. »Meine Idee war, das bestehende Stück noch mit Melodieführungen (Oboe, Vibes) zu erweitern.« Helmut ist Elektrotechnik-Toningenieur und arbeitet seit 15 Jahren aktiv mit Musik. Er singt, spielt Keyboards und Percussion: »Meine Vorlieben pendeln zwischen elektronischer und lateinamerikanischer Musik. Schwermütig. Ins Herz gehend. Traurig. Impulsiv.« Im Augeblick arbeitet Helmut an einer CD, die im Herbst in kleiner Stückzahl erscheinen wird: ArpZoneProject. Er gewinnt eine Vollversion Ableton Live 6. The remix with the second highest rating of the competition comes from Graz in Austria. Helmut Benesch has handed in a very tranquil, very song oriented »Dittany« version, which consciously makes a lot of use of the vocals and instrument tracks that were available. »My idea was to expand the existing track with further melody sections (oboe, vibes).« Helmut is an electro technician and sound engineer and actively working with music for 15 years. »My preferences shift between electronic and Latin American music. Heavy hearted. Going into the heart. Sad. Impulsive.« Currently Helmut is working on a CD that will appear in small edition in fall: ArpZoneProject. Henrik Twardzik aus Hamburg aka Neelix ist der bekannteste Remixer, der im Contest weit vorne gelandet ist. Wie schon bei seinem guten Abschneiden in unserer Leserumfrage wird ihm wohl seine besonders große Popularität in Norddeutschland auch im Remix-Voting nicht geschadet haben ;-) Auf seinen runden Progressive Trance konnte sich aber auch die geschmacklich extrem unterschiedlich besetzte sechsköpfige mushroomJury einigen. Neelix würde den »Dittany«-Remix am liebsten auch auf sein Album packen, das zur Zeit in den Startlöchern steht. Und das, obwohl Henrik erst durch den Wettbewerb Anne Clark wirklich kennen und schätzen gelernt hat. »Die Arbeit war super, es ging alles wie von selbst. Ich hatte sofort eine Melodie im Kopf, ich habe zwei Tage produziert.« Er gewinnt den digitalen Native-Instruments-Synthie Massive. Henrik Twardzik from Hamburg aka Neelix is the best known remixer who made it into a top position. His popularity in northern Germany surely helped in this result as it most likely also did in the mushroom questionnaire a few weeks ago. With his balanced progressive trance sound Neelix also cleaned out with the extremely different tastes of the mushroom jury. Neelix would like to include the »Dittany«-Remix on his album which is close to release. And this even though Henrik only heard about and started appreciating Anne Clark’s work through the remix competition. »The work was great, everything went on as if itself. An vierter Stelle kommen die ersten ausgemachten Anne-Clark-Fans, Roberth Heinig (28) und Hendrik Löffler aka Left (27) aus Dresden, die sich erst für den Contest den Namen FinalTrace gegeben haben – und behalten wollen. Roberth hatte schon einen Downbeat-Track mit dramatischen Streichern namens »End of Summer« fast fertig, seit im Juli sein Sohn auf die Welt gekommen war. Aber etwas fehlte die ganze Zeit noch. Wie sich herausstellen sollte, war das Annes Vocalspur von »Closed Circuit«. Die musikalischen Wurzeln der beiden Dresdner liegen bei EBM und Synthie-Pop. Left arbeitete in diesem Bereich als Produzent der Bands Absurd Minds (an deren Album auch Roberth mitwirkte), Days of Fate und Legacy of Music. Er hat aber auch die Punkrocker Die Kreuzung produziert. FinalTrace gewinnt den digitalen NativeInstruments-Synthesizer Absynth 4. In fourth place we find the Anne Clark fans Roberth Heinig (28) and Hendrik Löffler aka Left (27) from Dresden, who adopted the FinalTrace name for this contest and have since chosen to keep it. Roberth had a downbeat track with dramatic strings almost ready since his son was born in July. But something was missing. As it turned out this was Anne’s vocal track from »Closed Circuit«. The musical roots of this duo lie in EBM and synth pop. Left has worked in these genres as producer for the bands Absurd minds (on whose album Roberth was also involved), Days of Fate and Legacy of Music. Furthermore he has also produced the punk rockers Die Kreuzung. FinalTrace wins the Native Instruments digital synth Absynth 4.

Downbeat und Psytrance sind beim Produzieren die Vorlieben von Andreas aus Leipzig, der auch beim Dekoteam Cosmic Walkers mitarbeitet. Sein aodioiboa-Remix von Annes »Closed Circuit« ist sphärisch und chillig, er kann dich richtig in einen sonnigen Festival-Chillout versetzen. Der 30-Jährige befasst sich seit knapp vier Jahren mit der Produktion von elektronischer Musik und hat schon vor unserem Wettbewerb einige Remix-Erfahrungen gesammelt. Etwa einen Tag hat er mit »Closed Circuit« verbracht: »Die Arbeit mit dem Songmaterial war sehr entspannt, da Annes Vocalsamples von Grund auf sehr rhythmisch sind.« Andreas hofft, bald auch eigene Tracks zu releasen. Auf seiner Website findest Du Mixe aus seinem eigenen Material, sowohl Trance als auch Chill. Andreas gewinnt den digitalen Native-Instruments-Synthesizer FM8. Downbeat and psytrance are the preferred styles of Andreas from Leipzig who also works with the deco team Cosmic Walkers. His aodioiboa remix of Anne’s »Closed Circuit« is atmospheric and chilled, prefect for a sunny festival chill out. The 30 year old has been making electronic music for nearly 4 years and had already gathered some remix experience before our remix competition. He spent about one day with »Closed Circuit«: »Working with the song material was very relaxed as Anne’s vocal tracks are inherently very rhythmical.« Andreas hopes to release his own tracks soon. Der 31-jährige Berliner Marc-Christian Witt aka ambitronic widmete sich kurz vor seinem Tod dem Stück »Dittany«. Ein Remix war für ihn eine Auseinandersetzung mit Material, das er liebte. Während er noch auf Gesundung hoffte, reizte ihn die Herausforderung. Den Remix hat uns einer seiner Freunde jetzt geschickt. Arturia Jupiter-8V Träume werden doch manchmal wahr: Arturia will eine VST-Version des legendären Roland Jupiter 8 rausbringen! Der achtstimmige Synthesizer bedeutete vor 25 Jahren eine Revolution für Sounddesigner und Musiker, und bis heute reichen an seinen fetten, warmen Klang und seinen Tonumfang nicht viele Sounderzeuger heran. Arturia ist für großartige Software-Versionen von Analogsynthies bekannt – ich werd mir den Jupiter-8V definitiv bestellen, erhältlich ist er wohl ab Ende März. Eine Demoversion soll bald online stehen, der Preis für das wohlige Bad im Jupiter-Sound bewegt sich bei 200 Euro. Ein Schnäppchen, wenn man sich die Hardware-Preise vor Augen führt.

Dreams do come true. Arturia has announced a VST version of the legendary Roland Jupiter 8 synth. This 8 voice synth was a revolution for sound designers and musicians alike 25 years ago, and to this day few sound sources come close for phatness, texture and tonal scope. As Arturia have built a great reputation modelling analogue synths with their TAE engine I will be ordering one as soon as they’re available. Arturia confirmed they’re aiming for a release date around the end of March and a demo will be available from their site soon, with a price on par with their other VST synths (200 euros). Virus TI OS update 2.0 Es gibt ein neues Betriebssystem für den berüchtigten Synthie Virus TI, der unzweifelhaft super klingt, aber dessen total integrierte Funktionalität an etlichen Bugs scheiterte. Das update wird das hoffentlich ändern. Graintable-Oszillatoren sind neu dazu gekommen, außerdem zwei neue Signature Soundbanken. Der Download ist gratis.

Recommended Producer Set Für alle, die (elektronische) Musik produzieren wollen, schon einen Rechner haben, aber vom sonstigen Technik-Angebot überwältigt sind, haben wir ein Starterpaket zusammengestellt. This is our suggestion for a starter setup to those who already own a computer that is fit for the task and wish to produce (electronic) music - but are overwhelmed by the equipment choices on offer. All products have been tested and found to be the best buy for the money. We start off with the most critical gear: speakers, the only part of your setup you will actually hear. Having owned five pairs of monitors and having listened to countless more these are my top recommendation: Dynaudio BM-5A, smooth highs, clear mids, fat but honest bass and a decent price tag (there are passive models too!) Smetana ist ein wohlbekannter Name, wenn es um Musik aus Tschechien geht. Heute kümmern wir uns aber nicht um »Die Moldau«, sondern um feinste progressive Tanzmusik, womit wir auch schon direkt bei Tribal Vision wären - und bei Michal Smetana aka DJ Slater. Dass man in so schwierigen Zeiten so schnell so erfolgreich sein kann, ist schon ein Interview wert ... Bitte gib‘ uns bitte einen kurzen Einblick in Deine Vita und Dein Label. Schon als ich noch zur Schule gegangen bin, habe ich jedes Wochenende auf House-, Tranceund Techno-Partys verbracht. Ich wollte mich produktiv beteiligen, lernte das Auflegen und veranstaltete ab 1999 kleine Events mit Freunden. Daraus entstand Tribal Vision, zunächst eine DJ-/Veranstalter-Crew, ab 2004 auch ein progres-

sives Label. Label und DJing sind bis heute mein Full-Time-Job. Die Tschechische Republik gilt nicht gerade als Mekka des Trance, dennoch ist Tribal Vision eine Top-Adresse für gute progressive Tanzmusik mit gesunden Verkaufszahlen geworden. Warum? Smetana is a very good name for music from the Czech Republic - as you know for sure. But we are right in 2007 and our interview partner‘s first name is Michal. He‘s DJ Slater, head of Tribal Vision, one of the leading progressive labels at the moment. Who are you? Please tell us about your and the label‘s history. I fell in love with the whole electronic music movement at a pretty young age, spending most of my free weekends at High School at house, trance and techno parties. Being anxious to take part in this whole thing, I started djing. As early as 1999 we founded Tribal Vision and started to organize small events as a DJ/promoter crew. In 2004 we expanded our activities into a progressive record label which has been, along with djing, my full-time job until today. When Tribal Vision started, many people didn‘t belief in your success cos the Czech scene didn‘t seem to be very strong. But now Tribal Vision

has become one of the most respected progressive labels. Why? From the very beginning we had been demanding to be an international label, so this fact never affected us at all. There is actually only one Czech artist we are working with at the moment - Roman Rai - the rest of our acts are from all over the world. I am really glad that people appreciate our concept and way of working - the combination of both big names and talented newcomers, our experimenting with different electronic music styles, our close connection with the club music scene and last but not least the visuals we provide. There‘s a lot of music output from the scene, but not enough space and money for printed releases. Some of your

releases – even from wellknown artists like Tegma and Vibrasphere – come out only digitally. Why? Beatport and the whole digital download thingy has become a very important way of releasing music, not only because of the additional income, but also due to the fact that our music is in that way accessible for a different audience than through CDs/12“s. Recently we have exclusive tracks from Tegma and Fog, soon to come is a digital compilation of remixes of Vibrasphere‘s »Floating Free« and more... The progressive part of the trance community seems to divide. Tribal Vision is at the forefront of this development, Iboga works on it with Prestige music, Pena with Flow,

Der Schlüssel-Begriff für Tribal Vision ist immer »progressiv« gewesen - egal ob House, Trance or Elektro. Das Label entwickelt sich nach unserem Geschmack und dem der Szene. Ich bin derzeit etwas gelangweilt vom Standard-Psy-Prog, was uns näher an cluborientierte Music geführt hat. Elektro-beeinflusster Trance und House werden sicher ein Sub-Genre bleiben. Es wird neue Einflüsse geben, die in Wellen die gesamte progressive Szene verändern werden.

Was kommt als Nächstes für Dich und Tribal Vision? 2007 sieht sehr vielversprechend aus - Gigs in Australien, Brasilien, Mexiko, Nord-Amerika, Festivals wie Fusion, Antiworld, Ozora, Spirit Base ... Der Release-Plan des Labels ist voll mit neuen Alben von Vibrasphere und Tegma, Remixen zum Fitalic-Album, einer CD mit Roman Rais Tracks, einer Menge neuer Vinyls, Compilations und digitalen Veröffentlichungen.

Do you believe that progressive trance will morph into electro prog after all, will electro stuff become a new style? Speaking of an alter-alternative style for a third floor? The key word for Tribal Vision has always been »progressive« - whether it‘s house, trance or electro. The label‘s direction develops of course along with our own taste and luckily along with the scene’s taste. For now I can just say I am absolutey bored with the standard psy-prog sound, which placed us

even closer to the club orientated music in which this 80‘/electro virus has played an important role for the past few years. After all, I guess that electro-influenced trance and house will remain a sub-genre by itself. But there will come up new influences that will slowly but surely change the progressive scene. Last year was very sucessful for TV and DJ Slater, you‘ve done lot of international gigs, a tour to Japan ... What will be next? 2007 appears to be very promising to me - there are tours over Australia, Brasil, Mexico and North America as well as gigs at festivals such as Fusion, Antiworld, Ozora, Spirit Base etc. The release schedule for the label is also pretty

packed, with new albums of Vibrasphere and Tegma, remixes of Fitalic album, a special CD with Roman Rai tracks and of course a couple of new vinyls, compilations and digital releases. Who is your favorite or most interesting act in the progressive scene at the moment? Thinking about the progressive house/club scene, the following names come to my mind as the most interesting ones at the moment: 16 Bit Lolitas, Eric Prydz aka Pryda, Henrik B, Phatjak. True Highlight on stage Hilight Tribe Trancekünstler, deren Auftritte das Prädikat »live« wirklich verdienen, prägen sich tief ein. Wie of stand ich schon vor der Bühne, auf der jemand hinter Bildschirm und verkabelten Dingen verschwand und mit seiner Maus spielte. Oder nur so tat als ob. Es gibt Leute, die meinen: Elektronische Musik und live, das geht nicht zusammen, aber auf der anderen Seite gibt es ein paar echt rühmliche Ausnahmen wie Hilight Tribe. Ihre Auftritte sind absolut energetisch. Der Hilight Tribe besteht aus fünf Musikern und einem Sounddoktor am Mischpult. Die Jungs spielen Didgeridoo, Djembe, Gitarre, Congas und noch einiges mehr, so dass man auch von einer richtigen Bühnenshow sprechen kann. Seb, Greg, Rishnu, Roots, Ludo und Mathias trafen sich in Kalifornien zwischen 1995 und 1997 und leben inzwischen auf Ibiza, wo sie auch ihr erstes gemeinsames Konzert gaben. In ihrer Musik vereinen sie sehr geschickt klassische und moderne Klänge, mixen Psychedelic mit Tribal und kreieren so ihren eigenen Sound, den sie Natural Trance nennen. Ein echtes Highlight.

Trance artists that can really play a live-act are always something special. You remember them. Most artists nowadays are hiding behind a laptop, cables and stuff playing with a mouse. Or acting as if ... That‘s the reason why lots of people think that live-acts and electronic music don‘t go well together. On the other hand there are some really awesome groups around and for sure Hilight Tribe is one to mention here. Their shows are deeply energetic. Hilight Tribe consist of five musicians and one sound doctor at the mixing desk. If you get a chance to see them live you will notice them playing didgeridoo, djembe, guitar, congas, and more so you don‘t just hear, you can see their live performance on stage and get infected by it. Seb, Greg, Rishnu, Roots, Ludo and Mathias met in California between 1995 and 1997 and are now living on Ibiza where they once played their very first concert. In their music Hilight Tribe are merging ancient and modern music very smartly, mixing psychedelic with tribal elements and creating their own style which they call Natural Trance. A true highlight. Finnish Funk Commanders Salakavala Die Finnen tauchen immer öfter an der psychedelischen Oberfläche auf und es scheint, als würde die internationale Szene des Formulatrance langsam überdrüssig, der in den letzten Jahren die Dancefloors so dominierte. Die drei Jungs aus Helsinki sind seit vielen Jahren im Untergrund äußerst aktiv, haben die meisten ihrer Stücke frei zum Download angeboten und bilden neben Eraser, Yojalka und Squaremeat die psychedelische Spitze des finnischen Eisberges. Der Sound der Finnen ist extrem dancefloororientiert, beinhaltet fast immer eine gehörige Dosis Acid, Funk und ganz wichtig: der Humor, der darf niemals fehlen. Seit es die DragonLabelgruppe in Asien gibt, treten immer mehr finnische Künstler ins Rampenlicht. Es ist nur noch eine Frage der Zeit, bis auf den großen Festivals endlich einmal Abwechslung einkehrt und der Community gezeigt wird, wie man noch den Sonntag Nachmittag in der heißen Sonne verbringen kann. with a damn healthy dose of the most important ingredients: acid and funk and always comes along with their special kind of humour, which distinguishes themselves as a real treat. Since the Dragon labelgroup and its subsidiary Faerie Dragon in Asia started to pay more attention to the most advanced and extraordinary Finnish sound creations, there seem to be more and more of them popping up in the spotlight. It is only a matter of time until the big festivals will diversify their standards and show the crowd a different way on how to spend a Sunday afternoon under the hot sun. Protonica are Piet Kaempfer and Ralf Dietze from Berlin. Both are very experienced in the field of psytrance, 2004 they teamed up. „Orion Sleeper“ was released on Yellow Sunshine Explosion in the summer 2005 – which was so successful, that a vinyl followed in march 2006.

What kind of music inspired you or even incited your interest in trance? Piet: Definitely the Swedes. I was inspired by acts like Atmos, Human Blue and Vibrasphere in 1999. They opened the door to psytrance for me. I guess, sometimes this influence can be heard in our music. Ralle: Since I’ve been a DJ since 1996 (formerly known as Ralle from Halle) and was involved in decoration, trance has had a big impact on me since those days. There have been many acts that influenced me, for example Astral Projection, Etnica, Hallucinogen and Space Tribe. Their sound is made up of a broad variety of styles: psytrance with house influences, a bit of proggy and flowing melodies which destroys any attempt to confine it to a genre. Ralle is mainly resposible for the grooves while Piet takes care of the harmonies and melodies. Their formula for success is easy: learning from each other to advance steadily. Recently they started the project „Kaempfer & Dietze“ to follow their other pleasure of progressive house. Ralle is also active as DJ Acinotrop, covering darkpsy and fullon. Cover Art from Dubai In Dubai ist unser Cover für diesen Monat entstanden, dort lebt Swaroop Guhathakurta. 2004 trat der Künstler in die Welt des digitalen GrafikDesigns ein, als Designer von CDCovers. Zunächst von den Arbeiten etablierter Künstler lernend, fand er schließlich seinen eigenen Stil, für den er die Inspiration aus sich selbst bezieht, wie er sagt. Swaroop ist ein nachtaktiver Grafiker ohne formale Ausbildung, der sich am Computer alles selbst beigebracht hat. Interessanterweise eigentlich Unternehmensberater von Beruf, betreibt er von zuhause noch seine Firma SGDesigns, und über psy-pro.deviantart. com vertreibt er seine Kunst. Neben der Arbeit an CD-Covers für Plattenfirmen weltweit, darunter natürlich

Und gerade wurden ihm Verträge für die visuelle Gesamtgestaltung mehrerer Nachtclubs in Dubai angeboten. »PsyTrance« Swaroops Bestreben ist, jeden einzelnen Strich sichtbar, jede einzelne Farbe für den Betrachter spürbar werden zu lassen. Unsere monatliche Artist Sticker Card hat der 30-jährige Nomade Christian Klix kreiert. Seit zehn Jahren in der Psytrance Szene aktiv, befeuerte er – meist mit der Firedancer Crew aus Frankfurt – in den letzten Jahren Festivals wie Tshitraka, Waldfrieden Wonderland und Soulclipse. Seit einiger Zeit erschafft er, inspiriert durch den Australier Andy Goldsworthy Naturkunstwerke; auf Christians Webseite kannst Du diese psychedelische Kunst sehen, die ganz ohne Technik und Computer entsteht. CCCP in Belgium Der Kalte Krieg endete ja schon vor rund zwei Dekaden, und die Sowjetunion zerteilte sich, aber wie die CCCP-Party von Femina Mandragora gezeigt hat, ist sozialistische Romantik noch lange nicht tot. Ein altes Industriegebäude in Gent in Belgien war Schauplatz einer ungewöhnlichen Feier, zu der am 10. Februar mit Kindzadza und CPC gleich zwei der fettesten russischen Acts anreisten. Dabei waren unter anderem auch die Schweden Sienis und Dennis the Menace sowie Azax Syndrome aus Griechenland – während Gäste aus allen möglichen Ecken Europas und drüber hinaus die internationale Dimension noch erweiterten. Nun mag das nach einem recht düsteren Line up klingen, aber die Artists servierten eine tolle Mixtur psychedelischer Delikatessen, die den Floor durchweg am Hüpfen hielten. Getränke nicht zu teuer, das Team samt Security nett und eine weiträumige Location – das ergab eine sehr entspannte und freundliche Atmosphäre. Und nach dem Meer glücklicher Gesichter zu urteilen, das mich die ganze Nacht umgab, kann ich wohl ungestraft behaupten, dass die meisten Leute eine denkwürdige Feier hatten. Ich hatte auf jeden Fall eine ;-)

It’s been nearly two decades since the Cold War ended and the former Soviet Union was divided into the countries it is today, but if the CCCP event by Femina Mandragora was anything to go by, the socialist spirit romantic revolutionaries have sought for so long is far from dead. Held in an old industrial building on the 10th of February and playing host to Kindzadza and CPC, two of Russia’s biggest DJs, this unusual gathering was located in Gent, Belgium. Other acts included Sienis as well as Dennis the Menace from Sweden and Azax Syndrome from Greece with the international diversity widened still by guests from all over Europe and beyond. Although the line-up might have implied a night of darker tunes, the artists served a great mix of psychedelic delicacies that kept the floor jumping all night long. Inexpensive drinks, friendly staff and security and a spacious venue made for a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. And from the sea of happy faces I saw around me all night, I can safely say that most folks had a memorable experience, I know I did ;-) Krzys

I think all of us have 1 or 2 personal milestone festivals in our lifes. To catalyze your metamorphosis or you‘ve found your roots there or whatever. Rainbow Serpent is a bit like that for me. This dazzlingly style-mixed festival, one of the most popular outdoor parties in Australia, celebrated its 10th birthday with massive people for three nights and four days at the end of January. The market stage served us fantastically wide ranged music under the orange-pink dotted deco-shade. From Loopus in Fabula’s funkedelic trance live set to Spoonbill’s incredible breakbeat ’n‘ cut up sample insanity, I really enjoyed this area’s well woven musical saga (also great floor test for me too as I played lots of my new tunes). The main stage opened from Saturday night until next afternoon. Ganga Giri’s live gig was filled with earth ‘n‘ roots spirits, DJs like Kotaro and Ryo reflected the currently growing musical diversity in Japan with electro and full on. The last two artists were Atmos live and a D-Nox DJ set serving us truly high quality moments with their smooth yet thrilling, groovy

breezy progressive sounds under the blue sky. All line ups and time schedules were thoughtfully made to creats such an alternative musical journey. And that’s why I love oz parties and its party people ... It’s all about diversity and the bigger picture of what is psychedelic, far beyond any kind of musical fundamentalism – I love it! On top of this, great food was served, there were plenty of workshops and lots of visual arts that were totally awesome!! Another very impressive thing to me was the composting toilet! Australia is now suffering from water shortage and this was a great solution to not waste any water for a four day outdoor festival ... After you did what you had to do you simply just scoop some sawdust from the side box and put it into the hole. This keeps

Besonders geflasht hat mich dort bisher immer die Videoanimation, die diesmal noch von den Marcabi VJs unterstützt wird. Pangeas Birthday Lounge 24 March / Berlin (Germany) Eine frohe Nachricht für alle, die im Rahmen der sogenannten Europäischen Clubnacht in Berlin die Vielseitigkeit elektronischer Tanzmusik erleben wollen, aber dennoch auf Goa nicht verzichten können ;-) Pangeon hat mit Freiwild eine monatliche Partyreihe ins Leben gerufen, auf deren zweitem Termin der siebente Geburtstag von Pangeon gefeiert wird. Trance Dimensions 17 March / Antwerp (Belgium) Das wird eine runde Sache mit einem bunten Mix aus melodischem Psytrance, Progressive Trance und Darkpsy. Electric Universe, Vibrasphere und Xenomorph - unterschiedlicher kann die Auswahl der Live-Acts wohl kaum sein. Rickard Berglöf aka Vibrasphere wird außerdem noch seine andere Seite zeigen und als Subcouds auftreten. In dem Projekt veröffentlicht er mit Fredrik Axelsson schon seit 1995 psychedelischen Sound. Don‘t be surprised if you break a sweat this night - an exciting range of psychedelic trance is on the schedule: melodic psytrance, progressive trance und darkpsy. Gleichzeitig wird zum Partytermin die Schwarzlichtausstellung Sinneswandeln zum letzten Mal ihre Pforten geöffnet haben und wieder als farbenprächtige Chillout Area dienen. Jahr und wie wir es gewohnt sind, kommen viele langjährige Freunde sowie immer neue Geheimtipps und internationale Headliner zum Gratulieren. Air - be high on Music 7 April / Hamburg (Germany) Wie bei den letzten zwei Events der Air-Crew wird auch diesmal eine exklusive CD produziert. Wie die Neelix-CD im Herbst wird auch diese »The Unreleased« heißen, drauf sind neun bisher unveröffentlichte Tracks von Day.Din und Fabio. Das Konzept scheint aufzugehen, die letzte Party war ein voller Erfolg und es gelang der Crew deutlich mehr als 1000 Leute zu begeistern, was in Hamburg inzwischen eher die Ausnahme ist. Es gibt zwei große Floors und eine große Sofa Chill-Lounge. Der Hühnerposten hat ein neues Soundsystem bekommen und auch die Deko wurde auf allen Floors erneuert. Der musikalische Leckerbissen des Abends wird wohl der Live-Act von Nicola Capobianco alias Liquid Soul aus der Schweiz sein, aber natürlich kommen die Gäste auch beim Rest des Line Ups auf ihre Kosten.

Just as was the case for the last two Air crew events, this time a special limited edition CD will also be produced. Similar to the Neelix CD in fall this one will also be called »The Unreleased« featuring unreleased tracks by Day.Din and Fabio. With Kai Mathesdorf and Psyfly two guys from the mushroom team manage to get their ticket to the trance paradise of South Africa and will represent us in the party stronghold of Cape Town. The magic location is the Moiwater Farm between Franshoek and Villiersdorp in a wine-growing region. Climate Change: Every little helps Das Wochenende naht, die nächste Party steht vor der Tür – und gestern gab’s im Fernsehen wieder einen Bericht über den Klimawandel. Ja – und? Dass diese zwei Dinge mehr miteinander zu tun haben, als es zunächst scheint, mag sich vielleicht nicht sofort erschließen, ist aber so. Denn jeder von uns ist angesichts des drohenden Klimawandels aufgerufen, seinen kleinen Beitrag zu leisten, damit wir auch in Zukunft noch eine gesunde Welt um uns herum haben. Je nach Distanz, die ihr zur Party zurückzulegen habt: Wie wär’s denn damit, mal das Auto stehenzulassen und mit Bus, Bahn oder dem Bike zu fahren? Oder zumindest Fahrgemeinschaften zu bilden? Auch Car-Sharing oder Teilautos oder gar ein Drei-Liter-Auto wären prima Alternativen. Zuhause wie als Veranstalter benutzt ein verantwortungsbewusster Fraggle statt Einweg- lieber Mehrwegflaschen und kauft bevorzugt Produkte aus der Region, vermeidet somit also lange Transportwege. Es macht auch richtig Spaß, über den Wochenmarkt zu schlendern oder mal direkt beim Bauern vorbeizuschauen. Sinnvoll ist es auch, statt Plastiktüten Stoffbeutel zu benutzen. Die Heizung nicht sinnlos laufen lassen - oder alternativ mit dem Partner das Bett warm kuscheln. Natürlich habt Ihr Energiesparlampen (und Biostrom), die auch euren Geldbeutel schonen. Und technische Geräte werden zu Stromfresserchen, wenn sie dauernd im Stand-By-Modus laufen. Ausgedruckt werden nur wichtige Dokumente. Thema Klamotten: Optimal ist es, auch dabei lokal Produziertes zu erwerben – statt zum Beispiel Turnschuhe zu tragen, die aus China stammen und einen weiten Transportweg hatten. Einen lustigen Abend hat man beim Klamottentausch im Freundeskreis, bei dem ungetragene Schrankhüter und Fehlkäufe getauscht werden. Oder Ihr fangt an, Euch eigene Klamotten zu nähen – individueller als die Standardware, die sowieso jeder trägt, ist das allemal und gar nicht so schwer. Mit solchen Kleinigkeiten können wir alle etwas gegen den Klimawandel tun – denkt immer dran: Kleinvieh macht auch Mist!

Weekend is just about there and you are excited about the next party to happen – and yesterday there was just another report about climate change on TV. So - what? These two things have more in common than it might seem at first glimpse. Everyone of us must contribute and take action against the threatening climate change. After all, we still want a healthy world around us in the future, don’t we?! It’s not as hard as it might sound. Depending on the distance you have to travel to the party, how about taking the train, the bus or bike instead of the car? Even better would be the option of ride-sharing, car-sharing or being part of a part-time-car network. At home as well as when organising parties, a responsible fraggle uses reusable bottles instead of disposable ones and buys products from his region to avoid long carriage. After all, it is real fun to stroll over a farmer’s market or even visit a farmer directly. After having had a great night out (yakking and dancing is of course pro-climate ;o) and being back home, it’s time to turn on the heating. Leaving it on during the time you’re not at home would waste energy and money! Even better: Grab your partner and snuggle in the bed or take a warm bath together. Another hint to save energy and money are energysaving lamps or/and bio-energy. Don’t let your technical appliances constantly seize electricity in stand-by mode – switch them off instead. Print only the most important documents. Speaking of clothes: Ideally, buy local products. Instead of wearing sneakers that were produced in China and demand a long way of transportation, change to local companies. Real fun is a cloth-swap with your friends: Everyone brings bad buys and unworn stuff and swaps them. You can also start sewing your own clothes, what is a lot more individual than the shirts and pants everybody else wears. It’s not that hard. Honestly, it’s not that hard to pay a bit more attention during the day. It’s all these small things that help our world – and taking all those small actions in account make a big change.

Reclaim the Streets »Wenn ich nicht tanzen kann, dann ist es nicht meine Revolution«, hat in den zwanziger Jahren die Anarchistin Emma Goldmann einmal sinngemäß verkündet. Mit einem gewissen Augenzwinkern bezieht sich bis heute der politische Party-Underground gerne auf diese Aussage. Insbesondere die »Reclaim the Streets«-Aktionen in den Metropolen zeigen nachdrücklich, dass es durchaus möglich ist, die so oft als unvereinbar beschriebenen Gegensätze von Politik und Party sinnvoll miteinander zu verknüpfen. DJ-Sets sind genauso wie bunt gestaltete Transparente ein fester Bestandteil dieser politischen Straßenpartys, die lautstark durch die Innenstädte ziehen. Weit über das Konzept traditioneller Demonstrationen hinausgehend, sollen die Aktionen nicht nur der trockenen Wiedergabe linker Positionen entsprechen. Vielmehr geht es um die lustvolle Manifestation eines alternativen Lebensgefühls und einer vielfältigen Gegenkultur. Für eine kurze Zeit gelingt es dabei immer wieder den kommerzialisierten öffentlichen Raum zurückzuerobern und mit neuem Leben zu erfüllen. Doch zumeist dauert es nicht lange und die schrägen Beats vermischen sich mit den Geräuschen der anrückenden Wasserwerfer, während die fröhlich tanzenden PartyFreaks von Polizisten in Kampfanzügen umkreist werden. Ein symbolhaftes Bild, das ohne ein Wort zu benötigen die herrschenden Realitäten bitter entlarvt.

With a slight twinkle of the eyes the political party underground today is connected to this phrase. Especially the Reclaim the Streets actions in certain metropolis show that it is possible to unite the often incompatibly classed politics and parties in a productive manner. DJ sets as well as colourful transparent foils are both steadfast elements of these political street parties which loudly move through city centres. These actions aim to go far beyond the typically dry representation of the political left. Much more they are about representing an alternative lifestyle and alternative counter culture. For a short time period they always manage to reclaim the commercialised public space and fill it with new life. Unfortunately it usually doesn’t take long before the freaky beats get mixed up with the sound of approaching water canons and the happily dancing party freaks are surrounded by police in riot suits. Neue Entscheidung zum Pilzverbot Hast Du schon mal davon gehört, dass Pilze immer noch nicht unter das deutsche BetäubungsmittelGesetz fallen? Einige Leute, die mit Magic Mushrooms oder beim Bestellen dieser Pilze in Holland erwischt wurden, sind mit diesem Argument davon gekommen. Ihre Verfahren endeten mit Freispruch. Doch Vorsicht! Der Bundesgerichtshof, das höchste deutsche Fachgericht in Strafsachen, hat jetzt dieser Gesetzeslücke einen Riegel vorgeschoben. Pilze sind »Betäubungsmittel«, sagen die Bundesrichter. Sie haben damit eine für Pilz-Verwender freundliche Entscheidung des Oberlandesgerichtes Koblenz für falsch erklärt, wonach Pilze kein Betäubungsmittel waren. Die Koblenzer Richter hatten gesagt: Im Gesetz und seiner

Anlage seien nur Pflanzen und ihre Bestandteile als mögliche Träger für Psilocybin und andere Wirkstoffe aufgeführt. Und heute wisse jedes Kind aus dem Biologie-Unterricht, dass es sich bei Pilzen nicht um Pflanzen, sondern um eine eigene Art von Organismen handelt. Das erklärten die Bundesrichter jetzt für falsch. Sie beschlossen: Wenn das Gesetz Pflanzen sage, verstehe jeder mündige Mensch in Deutschland, dass es auch um Pilze gehe - oder ihm sei zumindest das Risiko bewusst, dass er sich strafbar mache, wenn er psilocybinhaltige Pilze besitze, kaufe oder Ähnliches (Aktenzeichen: 1 StR 384/06, www.bundesgerichtshof.de) Was heißt die Entscheidung konkret? Im Moment sieht es schlecht aus, wenn man wegen Verstoßes gegen das Betäubungsmittel-Gesetz angeklagt wird, weil man Psilos dabei hatte. Allerdings ist das Wort der Bundesrichter noch nicht das letzte Wort: Vielleicht nimmt das Bundesverfassungsgericht die Sache zur Entscheidung an und verwirft die Ansicht des Bundesgerichtshofes wieder. Bis dahin allerdings gilt: Niemand sollte sich mit Psilos in der Tasche oder beim Kauf über das Internet erwischen lassen!

Have you ever heard that mushrooms don’t fall under the controlled substances laws in Germany? Some people that got caught with magic mushrooms or were tracked ordering them from Holland were acquitted using this argument. But be the German federal court has now closed this loop hole. Mushrooms are narcotics the federal judges ruled. With this they undid a mushroom friendly ruling in the higher regional court of Koblenz, which had stated that mushrooms are no narcotics. The judges from Koblenz had ruled that according to the formulation of the law only plants and their components can be possible carriers for psilocybin and other psychoactive substances. Nowadays every child knows that mushroom are not plants but an entirely different kind of organism. This ruling however was declared false by the most recent verdict. The ruled: Even if the law states »plants«, every sane person in Germany would still be aware that mushrooms are implied – or at least people would know that they are breaking the law when they have in their possession, buy or sell mushrooms containing psilocybin. This means, at the moment if you are charged with breaking the controlled substances law in Germany because you were carrying mushrooms, then things are looking gloomy. However the ruling of the federal judges might not be the final word. It is possible that the federal constitutional court will focus on the mater and possibly reject the ruling. Unsere Zeitreise führt uns diesmal in den März 1997. Große Storys im mushroom magazine waren damals unter anderem Tsuyoshi Suzuki und Mahasuka, der den Jüngeren Goaranern vielleicht eher als Peter Hollenbach bekannt ist. Willkommen in der Blütezeit der Hamburger Psytrance-Partys. Nach den Feiern im altehrwürdigen Gaswerk hatten die Veranstalter keine Scheu vor Großevents. Im März 1997 erregte wohl die Waterland in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg das meiste Aufsehen. Der pompöse Flyer und die Ankündigung, dass alle Elemente des Flyers als Deko auf der Party zu sehen sein würden, lockten so viele Partypeople nach Hamburg, dass Überfüllung herrschte. Lei-

Also vielleicht doch lieber auf‘s Land, wo die Welt noch in Ordnung war. Eine Kultlocation damals war der Clip Clap Club in Wölpinghausen am Steinhuder Meer bei Hannover.
