Sangeet

timetravel Sangeet war einer der ersten und ist einer der bekanntesten Psy-DJs - über die gesamten Jahre war er intensiv mit der Szene verbunden, spielte viele verschiedene Stile und produzierte mit vielen anderen Künstlern und in diversen Projekten wie Earth oder Salaris. Er kommt jetzt mit einem Album auf Transient, einem Label, für das er schon in den 90ern produziert hat.

Auch Transient ist wieder da.

Greg Coyle, früher für die progressive Seite des Labels zuständig, baut es wieder auf.

Eine Herzensangelegenheit.

Du bist einer der »Goa«-DJs der ersten Stunden, Du legst seit gut 20 Jahren auf. Was macht das Auflegen so interessant für Dich?

Es ist immer wieder eine Herausforderung, die Crowd in Trance zu schicken. Klar kann ich einen Hit nach dem anderen spielen, um so viele Tänzer wie möglich auf den Dancefloor zu bekommen, aber spannender wird es dadurch nicht. Viel interessanter ist es, die Tracks, die ich mir für die Veranstaltung zum Spielen rausgesucht habe, in eine unterhaltsame und abwechslungsreiche Geschichte zu verpacken und für Überraschungen zu sorgen. Es ist zudem absolut abgefahren, zu sehen und zu fühlen, wie ein neues Stück, das vorher noch nie woanders lief, beim Publikum ankommt.

Wie beurteilst Du die Szene derzeit um Dich herum? Wie

fühlst Du Dich heute, wenn Du weggehst?

GoaTrance ist seinem UndergroundStatus ja schon lange entwachsen, Überraschungen und »Unerhörtes« gibt’s auch immer weniger, ich muss ganz ehrlich sagen, dass auch ich den alten Zeiten manchmal hinterhertrauere. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es so viel interessante Musik wie noch nie – oder? Als alte Nachteule finde es noch immer sehr spannend auszugehen, neue Musik zu hören, zu tanzen, alte Freunde wieder zu treffen und neue Leute kennen zu lernen.

Du hast im Laufe Deiner Karriere sehr viele musikalische Stile durchlebt, Goa, Tranciges, Technoides, FullOn. Was ist das bindende Glied für Dich, wofür schlägt Dein Herz im Moment und warum?

Bei allen Musikstilen, für die ich mich ich in den letzen zehn Jahren interessierte und die ich auflegte, stand für mich immer der »Trancefaktor« an erster Stelle. Eine zeitlang konnte man auf den Partys wirklich »eine Menge« ausprobieren. Das Publikum ist in der Regel jedoch nicht mehr so experimentierfreudig wie noch um die Jahrtausendwende herum ...

2002 kam mein »DJ-Sangeet«-Album auf Spirit Zone heraus, das eine recht große Bandbreite an Sounds und Musik dem geneigten Hörer näherbrachte. Nachdem Spirit Zone sich entschied aufzuhören, brauchte auch ich eine recht lange Zeit, um meinen neuen Sound zu definieren. Der Umstieg auf Mac OS X und der damit verbundene Umbau und Ausbau des

Studios einschließlich dem Bau von Kompressoren etcetera benötigte zudem seine Zeit.

Mit Mulle (Kularis) konnte ich Erfahrungen in Liveauftritten sammeln, die für mein Soloprojekt sehr wertvoll sind. Die Intensität, das Psychedelische und das fullonmäßige passten jedoch besser in mein Soloprojekt »Sangeet« als zu Salaris, das doch um einiges progressiver ist.

Wie wichtig ist die Geschichte in/hinter Deinen Tracks, wie wichtig die reine Funktion als Tanzmusik?

Alle meine Tracks haben ihre eigene Geschichte; ich konnte mich noch nie hinsetzten und einen Track produzieren, der nur funktionieren soll. Ohne Inspiration, Story ... geht bei mir nichts, manchmal kann‘s auch schon mal zuviel Geschichte sein ;-) Was denkst Du über Deine musikalische Zukunft zehn Jahre weiter?

Sangeet is one the first and one of the most respected Goa DJs. He‘s been intensenly connected with the scene over the years, played a lot of different electronic styles, did several productions, projects and albums as Earth, DJ Sangeet, Salaris... He‘s back with a new album on Transient, the label he did one of his first productions for. And Transient is back. Greg Coyle is rebuilding this classic Psy and Progressive label. A story from the heart.

You were one of the first Goa DJs, you‘ve been playin‘ now for more than 20 years. Why it is so interesting for you?

It‘s still a challenge to play the people into Trance. You can play one hit after another, but that‘s not interesting. I try to tell an entertaining story with the tracks I‘ve prepared for the gig. The biggest fun is to get feedback from the audience to newly produced tracks, too.

What do you think about your scene today?

In your career you played different styles from Goa to Techno to Trance to Full on.

Where‘s the connection?

It‘s the »Trance factor«. In the beginning you could play any music you liked to play, today the audience is not as experimental anymore. After the »DJ Sangeet« album and the close of Spirit Zone I needed some time to redefine my new sound. I built a new studio and changed to using Mac OS X. In the meantime I worked with Mulle as Salaris and gained lots of experience. The intensity, the psychedelic deepness of some tracks had a new quality not fitting the progressive Salaris project. I tested all the tracks at parties and made lots of fine tunings.

I‘m really glad to work with Greg at Transient, where I already released a production with Mino in the 90ies.

How important is the story behind your tracks? Or do you believe in the function of dance music only?

All my tracks have their story, it‘s all about inspiration, sometimes it can even be too much of a story ... ;-) What do you think about your musical future 10 years on?

Greg Coyle, Transient Label Head »Obwohl meine erste Liebe dem progressiven Trance galt, sind Transient und die Erfahrungen, die ich dort gesammelt habe, schon sehr sehr speziell für mich gewesen. Deswegen will ich es wieder anschieben und arbeite nun mit guten Freunden, wie Dag, Sangeet und Kristian daran. Bereits mit unseren ersten beiden Releases haben wir ganz unterschiedliche musikalische Bereiche berührt. Wir wollen unseren Künstlern keine Grenzen setzen und sie ihr ganz eigenes Ding machen lassen.

Der Künstler lebt nur dann, wenn er live spielt, dafür braucht er wiederum ständig neue Musik. Deswegen hoffen wir, unsere Künstler dahin zu bringen, wenn möglich zwei Alben im Jahr zu produzieren. Ein neues von Human Blue ist fast fertig ...«

»Although my first love is the smooth prog style, Transient and what I have experienced with it and learnt from it is very very special to me and that‘s why I am doing it again. The time for me is right and I think the time for Transient to shine again is now. I am working with some very good friends of mine, Sangeet, Dag from Human Blue and Kristian.

The musical direction for Transient is not so easy to describe, in our first two releases we have already touched on different styles, as mentioned by you in your review of Human Blue. This is the ethos of the label, I want to give the artists the room to explore their creative boundaries and not just be limited to the confines of specific genres. The best way for an artist to make money is to play live, and the best way to get bookings is to have new music, so therefore we would like our artists to be releasing, if possible, two albums a year.« (kai) www.transient.com

Ace Ventura Yoni Oshrat aus Israel ist Ace Ventura und begann seine musikalische Karriere 1998 als Teil von Psysex gemeinsam mit Udi Sternberg, mit dem er auch unter dem Pseudonym Children of the Doc veröffentlichte.

Yoni arbeitete auch an dem Elektro-Projekt Schatsi mit und Ende 2005 gab er seiner persönlichen Liebe zu Progressive Trance mit Ace Ventura einen neuen Namen.

Damit scheint er sogar Eyal Yankovich angesteckt zu haben, denn auf dessen Label Hommega, eigentlich eher dem FullOn zugewandt, erscheint jetzt die erste progressive Compilation »New Order« – zusammengestellt von Yoni. Nebenbei arbeitet das Ass an seinem Debütalbum, das Anfang des Jahres bei Iboga erscheinen soll.

Former Psy-sex member, Yoni Oshrat, also known as Ace Ventura, comes from Israel. His first progressive production was in 2005 with a track called »Cardiac Arrest« on the compilation »SET:4« from Iboga. »I’ve been listening to progressive for many years, but after years of writing Full on Trance, I found myself quite bored with it and it began to be very difficult to be in the studio. I tried to make one proggy track, and the flow was really great, as were the reactions to it – after that I decided to change the style completely,« Yoni says.

The latest release from Hommega productions is a compilation called »New Order« that Joni compiled. It features new tracks from the best artists in the progressive scene, including a few surprises. »It is a new order indeed - Hommega never had a progressive release before, only Full-on!” These days Mr. Ventura is working on his debut album for Iboga that will be released early next year.

Dennoch achten wir gerne auf die Tanzbarkeit, aber nicht alles, was schnell ist, geht einem auch immer flüssig ins Ohr. Their debut, »Music Prostitute« is coming out on their label Blue Tunes and we want to know why it‘s taken so long.

Sirko: »In the meantime we’ve decided that we’re ripe enough to express our own style. We do make main floor music as Symphonix, but keep realising that our preferred speed at the moment doesn’t lie above 138 bpm which is why we hesitated at first. However we are very careful when it comes to its danceability, but not everything that‘s fast flows smoothly into your ears. To expand our musical horizons we will be releasing an album called „Disco Billy“ under our side project True Lies on Candyflip records. If you had the privilege of witnessing their fantastic live gig at this year‘s Boom festival, you know these two nutters live the vibe and spread so much positive energy that it felt like they‘d cast a spell on you. beginning of a great friendship during which Gaspard also succeeded in rekindling the rocker’s Love for Trance by dragging him to parties. Their project name is a respresentation of the fusion of opposites like Yin and Yang, light and dark or male and female. Ajja, who founded the Organic Trance live act Peaking Goddess Collective, infuses their musical creation with his knowledge of instruments and frequencies while Gaspard contributes a strong feeling for the dance floor dynamics what makes a strong, psychedelic, dance orientated sound with musical sensitivity. The album »Nocturnal Imprints« will portray a mature, smooth and funky sound as well as constant changes with trickily arranged stories. A very healthy dose of lysergic substance and the required measurement of humour turns their tracks to an experience, so their album shall be the proof of the meticulous work they‘ve undertaken over the last 12 months. Moondust Festival stopped India’s first big Psychedelic Trance festival, popularly known as Moondust, was meant to run from November 3 to 7 in Rajasthan. The organizers had apparently got permission to execute the carnival. But unfortunately the festival in the end struck a discordant note with the locals.

Although the lineup was considerably reduced when the festival finally occurred, various styles of music were represented, from darker pounding Psytrance to emotionally charged morning harmonies right up till Ambient/Chill tunes. It showcased the subcontinents rapidly developing music culture. A head count of 2500 to 3000 was noted. As expected, the crowd consisted mainly of

foreign tourists. The energy levels were soaring to new heights as excellent vibes filled the air. But not everybody shared this impression: A culture shock came upon the villagers of Ramgarh nearby, which was astonishing in a state, which generates a large part of its revenue from foreign tourists. Moondust had to be hastily called off after allegations of sex, drugs and alcohol. Local villagers were awestruck by free use of smack and booze at the musical fête, or so they claim. The festivity that had begun with enthusiasm on Friday evening lasted until Tuesday. The organizers were forced to call off the festival early. (Divyan/cla rmx)

Minimalistisch produziert, mit viel Schub, wird wohl so mancher Track dem Dancefloor richtig einheizen. Das Album ist sicher nicht für jeden etwas. Doch wer die Abwechslung sucht, sollte unbedingt mal reinhören.

This album is very crunchy and stompy, contains many influences from Techno and Tech Trance joined with Soul and is clearly psychedelic. With its minimal production and lots of power behind it, many of these tracks could really heat up some dance floors. The underground lives in Japan too and tracks beyond 150 bpm make sure there are no commercial titles to be found. Red starts with a moderate speed at 146 bpm to introduce a wild rollercoaster like trip through the darker fields of techy Psy. I would like to mention Orestis and Jellyheadz as ones to check out and recommmend that everybody not scared of a bit of speed and unfamiliar names give it a try. Der Sound ist crisp, gradlinig, massiv druckvoll und dabei mit vielen halluzinierenden Natursounds und Samples durchsetzt. Ich denke, es ist eines der besten FullOn-Alben für nächtlichen Einsatz, das ich je gehört habe, kein overdosetes Getwickel, kein sinnloses Effektgeheische oder Rhythmus-Durcheinander, sondern eine verdammt steife Abfahrt. Würde ich gern mal live hören und vor allem fühlen.

OOOD »Free Range« (Organic Records) CD Ein Cover wie von Dali gemalt, ein Albumname, der meine Ökohippieseite anspricht (free range heißt freilaufend), und ein Intro, das mich an die Kindheit erinnert – gefolgt von einem munteren ersten Track, der was von Loopus in Fabulas »Fat Ladies Bingo« hat. So viel, das mich auf persönlicher Ebene berührt, da ist es schwer kritisch zu sein. Probieren wir‘s mal: Das ist keine Standard-Psy. Spaßige, funky Samples und Sounds mit Einflüssen diverser Genres und neuer Mitglieder geben OOODs Musik die Frische und inspirierende Energie, die vielen heutigen Releases einfach fehlt. Tracks wie »Free Range« und »Marijuajuana« sind für die Leute auf dem Floor eine unbeschwerte Abwechslung zu den ständigen ernsten Sounds. Obwohl ich weiß, dass dieses Album vielen zu unkonventionell sein wird, von mir kriegt es Höchstnoten!

A cover that looks like a Dali painting, an album name that appeals to my eco-hippie side, an intro that took me back to my childhood and a lively first track that reminded me of Loopus in Fabula’s »Fat Ladies Bingo« . There were so many things that appealed to me on a personal level here, that it was hard for me to view it critically, but here goes. This is not your standard Psy. Fun, funky samples and sounds with influences from different genres and new members mean that OOOD continue to give their music a fresh, inspiring energy lacking in many of today’s other releases. Maxim Galinov stammt aus Russland, lebt aber in Israel und präsentiert sein Debütalbum bei dem führenden Label für den Underground orientierten Stuff. Terranoise steht für kompromisslosen - so kennt man es von Doof -, in diesem Fall aber leider einfallslosen Acidpsy. Zehn Stücke, solide produziert, die weitestgehend ähnlich sind, mal mehr rollend, mal polternd, mal mehr, mal weniger Acid, aber keines ist bei mir hängengeblieben.

Maxim Galinoc is Terranoise presenting his debut on the leading label for the underground. Uncompromising, something we‘ve come to expect from Doof, but unfortunately unimaginative Acid Psy. Ten solidly produced tracks, one rolling, the other pumping, one with more acid, the next more skimpily arranged, but none stuck in my mind after listening to them, sorry. CD 2 gibt direkt mehr Gas, zu Beginn etwas hölzern, insgesamt viel besser als der Vorgänger. Obacht, die Master wurden vertauscht, also ist CD1 eigentlich CD2 und umgekehrt.

CD 1 stylishly begins with trancy Downbeat followed by very fluffed up grooves from Perfect Stranger, getting more pumping with Liquid Soul and Dualsnug, then becoming driving with Freakulizer and ending with another success from Magoon. CD 2 immediately speeds things up. A bit woody to begin with all in all it‘s much better than its predecessor. Beware the masters were mixed up so CD 1 is actually CD 2 and vice versa. Kann man nahezu blind kaufen.

CD 1 features the rhythmic aspect more, beautiful grooving Progressive Trance tracks that just about provoke hip swinging and which work just as well in a club or at home. Kompakter und strammer FullOn handelsüblicher Bauart in BQualität mit raviger Note von den üblichen Verdächtigen: keine Überraschungen, Produktion super, Inhalt vergessen, Musik von Staubsaugern für Staubsauger. Einzige Ausnahme: die Flamenco-Einlage von Double Impact, ganz lustig, aber auch ebenso platt. Was will man wem mit solchen CDs vermitteln? Und was analysiert das?

Third part of the „Analyzer“ series from Spectrum Music, this time done by DJ Kido. It‘s compact and tight Full-on from the usual suspects in their customary fashion within a pinch of rave: no real surprises, top productions with limited ideas, music from vacuum cleaners for vacuum cleaners. Sex sells; aber nicht nur der, denn bei dieser Compilation handelt es sich auch um erstklassigen Melodic FullOn. Viel Psy bei verträglicher Geschwindigkeit und ohne lästiges Synthie-Geschraube. Manch-

It seems that the Israeli recently have a special affinity towards the female gender, so Kitty´s not only compiled this CD, but has posed arms raised for its cover as well.

»Access EP« (AP Records) 12‘‘

Mehr als lobend sollte auch mal erwähnt werden, dass im Hause AP immer noch auf Vinyl gesetzt wird. Das aktuelle kommt von dem deutschen Duo Bitshift, warmer Progressive Trance mit einigen Techno-, Psy- und House-Anleihen. Sehr groovig und mit viel Atmosphäre findet hier jeder Track seinen Floor, der druckvolle Track 1 wohl auf dem morgendlichen Main, 2 und 3 wohl eher auf dem zweiten Floor und Track 4 sollte, etwas langsamer gespielt, im Chill Out zum Mitwippen animieren. Sehr schöne Platte.

The current release comes from German duo Bitshift with their warm Progressive Trance with some Techno, Psy, and House influences. Very groovy and with lots of atmosphere, every track will find its floor. The powerful Track 1 most likely on the morning main floor, 2 and 3 more likely on the second floor and track 4, pitched down slightly, should motivate folk to sway along on the Chillout floor. Psychedelische Sounds, meist mit um die 146 Beats und mit den verschiedensten Ideen garniert, so dass sich keine Gleichförmigkeit einstellt. Super Produktion, gute Tanzmusik, aber nicht das Zeug, für das man zum DJ rennt und nach dem Titel fragt. »Big Sticky« mit Earthling und Random hinterlässt mit seinem HipHop-Sample ein bisschen was Bleibendes, aber vermutlich nicht für sehr lange.

Ein psychedelisches Gewitter fettester Gangart, FullOn, alle Lampen an, satt vertwistet, mit großen Artists (Oforia, Timelock, ...) und einigen eher nur großen Namen. Wer‘s stramm und gut gefüllt mag und gern ein Feuerwerk im eigenen Kopf anzündet, wird hier reichlich Spaß haben.

Interessant: Eskimos Mix zu »Bionic Bong« von PsySex und X-Noizes Mix zu Tranans »Cluedo«. Als Rauswerfer kommen System Nipel mit dem »Disco Accident« schließlich mit durchaus versöhnlichen Tönen.

Eine Melange aus House und Trance mit manchmal leicht diskoidem Touch, groovig und pumpend, aber immer auch mit psychedelischer Note. Freq ist mit einem Nebenprojekt dabei und auch Sonic Cube und Perfect Stranger sorgen für höchste Qualität. Besonders möchte ich Duca erwähnen, einen neuen Act aus Serbien, sein »Lector« lockt morgens wohl jeden noch mal von der Bar auf den Dancefloor.

Sehr empfehlenswert.

Once again there‘s a melange of House and Trance with an occasional light discoesque touch, groovy and pumping but always with a psychedelic feel, it works equally well in the club or at home. Freq is here with a side project and Sonic Cube and Perfect Stranger also help ensure the highest quality. Mir gefielen am besten der vierte Track mit Herrn Vernunft, die satte, oldschoolig durch den Raum fliegende »Goa«-Euphorie vom »Funky Ass« und der verwirrende Uplift in »Invaders«. Wer sich und seinem Hirn mal wieder ein wenig Eleganz und Extravaganz zuteil werden lassen möchte, ist bei Sangeet richtig aufgehoben.

Bedenkt man die große Erfahrung von Massimiliano Lafranconi and Maurizio Begotti, ist ein so simpel klingendes Album eine Überraschung. Mit vorhersagbaren Breaks und unoriginellen Beats bewegt sich alles in gewohnten Grenzen. Es ist wohl fair, das meiste als Oldskool einzustufen, definitiv mit ein paar netten PsyTracks dazwischen, zum Beispiel »Starbase 11«. Aber wie schön wäre es gewesen, von diesen beiden Veteranen etwas Aufregenderes zu hören.

Considering the years of experience behind Massimiliano Lafranconi and Maurizio Begotti, I was surprised to hear such a simple sounding album. I don’t mean that in the sharp, minimal sense of the word though, as with the predictable breaks and unoriginal drum beats, this album certainly doesn’t break any boundaries. Don‘t believe the amusing shit in the press info, Ellis Vanghoul is not the »Master Of Dark Psy« or »Psycore«, here he has made a kind of a fantasy Goa fairytale. The dark side comes through in rolling bass lines, but instrumentations verging on Hard Trance make it happy! Tech grooves, shimmering hi hats, intense percussions, a baroque spinet and celtic turmoil lead into a very unique and enjoyable story. I like it because of its furious, ambient in- and outro, the great melodic power in »Princess Guenavier« and »Flutaie«. Ein fetter multilayered Acidabfahrts-Trip. Es zischt und raschelt, die Knöpfe werden in die richtige Position gedreht und quietschige Sounds, auf ganz dicke Flächen gebettet, schleudern mich auf eine fraktale Reise. Nikita selbst steuert zwei Stücke bei und meine Lieblinge im Moment sogar drei: Atriohm sind so weit weg und verspielt, dass es eine wahre Freude ist, sich in ihr atmosphärisches Lysergabenteuer mitreißen zu lassen. Ganz dicke Scheibe!

Multilayered acid journeys with contributers like Penta himself, Parus who we already know from the first compilation and my personal fav-project at the moment, Atriohm. They are so far out that it‘s just delicious to be thrown away by the lysergic rolling depth spread in their work.

die Hand, das Individuelle in Guys Musik ist für mich jedoch leider etwas weniger geworden. Sein Humor hat allerdings keine Federn gelassen, auch auf diesem Album schickt er einen Joke hinterher, diesmal einen lustigen Rap über Tatendrang und Verzögerung.

Guy has reduced the emotion in his music somewhat and has released a stylistically very neat and definitely beat orientated album for Spintwist. The pace and power are lush, the beats varied and tracks 4 and 8 are really cool and groovy. The production is even better and has without a doubt been raised. DJs immediately have nine very playable tracks in their hands, however I feel that the individuality in Guy‘s music has fallen somewhat. His sense of humour hasn‘t lost anything though and he‘s included a joke on this album too, this time in the form of an amusing rap about calls for action and hesitation. A good half of the CD consists of the finest melodic Progressive Trance, the rest is Retro Electro Trance. A lot of fine tracks here, including a big opening by Astrix, an amazing progressive producer too.

Then Freq as brilliant as only Freq can be, Emok and Ticon as dirty as only they can be, and the story ends with a really subtle track by Wrecked Machines and Marcello V.O.R. who was a House DJ long before he left Brazil ... Diese Musik lässt sich am besten als »experimental ambient Electronics« bezeichnen und ich war mir ehrlich gesagt beim Hören nie sicher, wo die Musik aufhört und wo die Geräusche in meinem Kopf anfangen. Xabec macht eine Mischung aus angenehm entspannten Chillgrooves, driftet aber bei anderen Stücken immer wieder in Sounds ab, die sich als Hintergrund für einen Dali Science Fiction eignen würden.

This music can perhaps be described as »experimental ambient electronics« and I for one honestly was not sure where the music ended and the sounds in my head began.
