ROMANINI Em 1933, o geógrafo Reinhard Maack instalou uma estação meteorológica em meio à selva paranaense. Com a colaboração de sua esposa, a pesquisadora Margarete Neussel, anotava três vezes por dia os sinais de pressão, temperatura e vento, tentando compreender a respiração do planeta. Quase um século depois, CÉU-ECLIPSE retorna ao importante legado desse pesquisador vinculado ao Museu Paranaense para refletir sobre a situação crítica da Terra, tomando o céu como território em disputa, partilhado entre a ciência que o decifra e o mito que o mantém vivo.

Pensada não como um manifesto ecológico, mas como laboratório especulativo, a mostra propõe um espaço em que as práticas artísticas funcionam como modos de expandir os limites da imaginação, parceiras essenciais no processo de elaboração simbólica da crise planetária e de fertilização do imaginário de soluções possíveis. Durante todo o percurso, contamos com a consultoria generosa da cientista Marina Hirota, da filósofa Déborah Danowski e do artista e xamã yanomami Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe, que nos ajudaram a escutar o céu não apenas como metáfora, mas como entidade viva, atravessada por saberes e forças em permanente negociação.

A exposição reúne artistas brasileiros e estrangeiros, entre nomes consagrados e vozes emergentes, articulando diferentes linguagens e temporalidades. Algumas das obras foram concebidas especialmente para esta ocasião, em diálogo direto com o contexto do Museu e as urgências do tempo presente.

Durante as comemorações dos 30 anos da homologação da Terra Indígena Yanomami, Davi Kopenawa, com o maracá em punho, chamou um raio ao centro da maloca na aldeia Xihopi, no Amazonas. Sob ventos fortes, o clarão atravessou o teto de palha e completou a celebração. Na fotografia que aqui vemos, feita instantes depois, Kopenawa aparece ao lado de Ailton Krenak, ambos coroados por um arco-íris que se estende sobre a floresta.

Para a cosmologia yanomami, o arco-íris é morada de espíritos capazes de adoecer a carne dos vivos, dando um sentido ambíguo para a imagem. O que chamamos “meteorologia” talvez seja apenas uma forma de traduzir o invisível; o que chamamos “cosmologia” talvez descreva, com outra gramática, o mesmo movimento das nuvens, operado por outras forças. Entre os instrumentos de Maack e o maracá de Kopenawa, desenha-se uma ponte que liga diferentes formas de escutar o mundo.

Na instalação Temporali Temporali, de Alberto Garutti, central para este projeto, uma série de lâmpadas se acendem sempre que um raio atinge o território italiano. O fenômeno transforma o Museu em uma estação sensível à eletricidade do mundo. Desde a primeira fotografia de um relâmpago, em 1882, também aqui exposta, o desejo de capturar o instante do raio revela uma antiga fascinação humana pela força do sublime. Se Maack observava os ventos e Kopenawa dialoga com o trovão, Garutti cria um circuito que conecta diferentes céus, lembrando que o clima é uma rede planetária de correspondências, ainda que

seus efeitos se manifestem de modos desiguais, em contextos e escalas locais.

Em outros trabalhos, corpo e matéria tornam-se instrumentos de medição. Francis Alÿs corre em direção ao centro de um perigoso redemoinho de poeira, enquanto Guido van der Werve caminha sobre o gelo do Ártico, seguido lentamente por um navio quebra-gelo, ambos gestos de quem busca inscrever-se na escala das forças do planeta. Já Erika Verzutti traz o vento para dentro da escultura, com peças inclinadas ou tombadas que parecem ceder a uma turbulência invisível. Flora Leite, por sua vez, segue outra direção, traçando um risco quase imperceptível formado por abelhas, um relógio de sol movido por saberes extras e não humanos. A pintura de Laís Amaral nos coloca diante de um procedimento de escavação, cujo gesto paciente e corporal revela camadas ocultas, como se a luz emergisse do interior da matéria e fazendo da tela uma pele em transformação. Nesse movimento, a artista produz uma espécie de céu subterrâneo, onde o tempo se acumula e se dissipa. Marcelo Conceição, por sua vez, trabalha a partir de uma relação direta com o ambiente e suas forças, recolhendo objetos encontrados nas calçadas e avenidas do Rio de Janeiro. Materiais como rolhas, varetas de ferro, madeiras de caixote, linhas e bijuterias são reorganizados em composições que desafiam a gravidade, flutuam e têm o próprio ar como componente da escultura, como se cada fragmento resgatado guardasse um princípio vital de transformação. Já Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe traduz o céu e a floresta em superfícies gráficas de grande sutileza.

Seus desenhos e pinturas emergem de um vocabulário próprio, que articula elementos do território em tramas simbólicas que falam da interdependência entre os seres. Junto a isso, algumas obras da mostra assumem ainda caráter duracional. Em um concerto inédito, Arto Lindsay volta-se aos ecos, frequências e interferências celestes, enquanto a atriz Aivan (Grupo Mexa) reapresenta uma cena inspirada em Carmelo Bene e A Ópera dos

Cada obra, à sua maneira, acompanha o movimento de um planeta que parece perder o fôlego à medida que os vínculos entre os seres se enfraquecem, mas sem com isso render-se à melancolia. Para os Yanomami, o céu pode cair quando os humanos deixam de escutar os espíritos e de cuidar da floresta; quando a fumaça das máquinas e o ruído das cidades impedem o diálogo entre o que está acima e o que está abaixo. A queda do céu é, assim, um evento tanto físico quanto espiritual, ameaçando desfazer as relações que sustentam o mundo. Diante dessa iminência, os artistas aqui reunidos não oferecem soluções, mas modos primordiais de atenção. Escutam e invocam trovões, recolhem e enfrentam o vento, medem a luz, reinventam o ar, produzindo, cada um ao seu modo, modalidades de presença em meio ao eclipse.

SKY-ECLIPSE EN In 1933, geographer Reinhard Maack established a meteorological station deep within the Paraná jungle. He and his wife and research partner, Margarete Neussel, recorded pressure, temperature, and wind readings three times a day, in an effort to grasp the planet’s breathing. Nearly a century later, Sky-Eclipse revisits the important legacy of this researcher affiliated with Museu Paranaense, reflecting on the Earth’s critical condition by taking the sky as a contested territory shared by the science that deciphers it and the myth that keeps it alive.

Conceived not as an ecological manifesto but as a speculative laboratory, the exhibit proposes a space in which artistic practices operate as ways of expanding the limits of imagination essential partners in symbolic elaborations about our planetary crisis, and in nurturing our imagination regarding possible solutions. Throughout this process, we were generously advised by scientist Marina Hirota, philosopher Déborah Danowski, and Yanomami artist and shaman Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe, who helped us listen to the sky not merely as a metaphor, but as a living entity, traversed by knowledges and forces in constant negotiation. The exhibit brings together Brazilian and international artists, some established and others just emerging; they weave in different languages and temporalities. Some of these works were conceived specifically for this occasion, in direct dialogue with the museum’s context and with the urgencies of our present era.

During the celebrations marking the thirty years since the official recognition of the Yanomami Indigenous Territory, Davi Kopenawa, maracá in hand, summoned a bolt of lightning to the center

of the communal house (maloca) in Xihopi village, in the state of Amazonas. Amid strong winds, the flash tore through the thatched roof, thus completing the celebration. In the photograph we see here, taken moments later, Kopenawa appears beside Ailton Krenak; both are crowned by a rainbow that stretches across the forest. In Yanomami cosmology, the rainbow is home to spirits capable of making the flesh of the living fall ill. This lends an ambiguous meaning to the image. What we call “meteorology” may be nothing more than a way of translating the invisible; what we call “cosmology” may describe, in another grammar, the same movement of the clouds set in motion by different forces. Between Maack’s instruments and Kopenawa’s maracá, a bridge is drawn connecting distinct ways of listening to the world.

In Temporali Temporali, an installation by Alberto Garutti that lies at the heart of this project, a series of lamps light up whenever lightning strikes somewhere in Italy. The phenomenon turns the museum into a station attuned to the world’s electricity. Since the first photograph of a lightning bolt taken in

1882 and also presented here the desire to capture that fleeting instant has revealed a longstanding human fascination with the force of the sublime.

While Maack observes the winds and Kopenawa converses with thunder, Garutti creates a circuit that connects different skies, reminding us that climate is a planetary network of correspondences, although its effects manifest unevenly, across local contexts and scales.

In other works, body and matter become instruments of measurement. Francis Alÿs runs toward the center of a dangerous dust whirl, while Guido van der Werve walks across the Arctic ice, slowly followed by an icebreaker ship both are gestures of people who seek to inscribe themselves within the scale of the planet’s forces. Erika Verzutti, in turn, brings the wind into sculpture, with tilted or fallen pieces that seem to yield to an invisible turbulence.

Flora Leite moves in another direction, tracing an almost imperceptible line formed by bees a sundial moved by knowledge beyond and other than the human. Laís Amaral’s painting sets us before an excavation process, where a patient, embodied gesture reveals hidden layers, as if light were emerging from within matter, turning the canvas into a changing skin. In this movement, the artist produces a kind of subterranean sky, where time accumulates and dissipates. Marcelo Conceição, on the other hand, works from a direct relationship with the environment and its forces, gathering objects found on the sidewalks and avenues of Rio de Janeiro. Materials such as corks, iron rods, crate wood, thread, and costume jewelry are reorganized into compositions that defy gravity, float, and take air itself as a component of sculpture as though each rescued fragment contained a vital principle of transformation. Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe translates the sky and the forest into graphic surfaces of great subtlety. His drawings and paintings emerge from a vocabulary of his own, turning elements of the territory into symbolic patterns that speak of the interdependence that connects all beings.

Alongside them, some works in the exhibit take on a durational character: in a new concert, Arto Lindsay turns to celestial echoes, frequencies, and interferences, while actress Aivan (Grupo Mexa) reinterprets a scene inspired by Carmelo Bene and Bertolt Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera, Opera adapted to the present context.

Each work, in its own way, follows the movement of a planet that seems to lose its breath as the bonds between beings grow weaker yet without surrendering

to melancholy. For the Yanomami, the sky may fall when humans cease to listen to the spirits and to care for the forest; when the smoke of machines and the noise of cities obstruct the dialogue between what lies above and what lies below. The sky’s fall is thus both a physical and a spiritual event, threatening to unravel the relations that sustain the world. Faced with this imminence, the artists gathered here do not offer solutions, but primordial modes of attention. They listen to and invoke thunder, collect and confront the wind, measure light, reinvent air each, in their own way, producing modalities of presence amid the eclipse.

Tornado, de Francis Alÿs, resulta de uma década em que o artista perseguiu os tornados que se formam na região de Milpa Alta, nos arredores da Cidade do México. Munido de uma câmera portátil, Alÿs registra a si mesmo caminhando em direção aos redemoinhos de poeira e tentando adentrar seu centro. O filme alterna entre as imagens externas, com o artista avançando, hesitando e, eventualmente, desaparecendo na poeira. As imagens captadas de dentro do turbilhão são marcadas por ruído, instabilidade e breves instantes de silêncio. Alÿs descreve o projeto como uma meditação sobre o desassossego contemporâneo e a necessidade de encontrar serenidade em meio à desordem.

Inspirado também por uma confusão linguística entre “molinos de viento” e “remolinos de viento”, o artista associa sua própria empreitada à figura de Dom Quixote, cujo idealismo obstinado se espelha na repetição paciente e quase absurda de um gesto simples diante do imprevisível.

EN Tornado, by Francis Alÿs, emerges from a decade during which the artist pursued the dust whirlwinds that form in the region of Milpa Alta, on the outskirts of Mexico City. Armed with a handheld camera, Alÿs records himself walking toward these dust devils and attempting to enter their core. The film alternates between external shots, showing the artist advancing, hesitating, and eventually disappearing into the dust, and footage captured from within the vortex, marked by noise, instability, and brief moments of silence. Alÿs describes the project as a meditation on contemporary restlessness and on the need to find serenity amid disorder. Also inspired by linguistic confusion between molinos de viento [windmills] and remolinos de viento [whirlwinds], the artist aligns his own endeavor with the figure of Don Quixote, whose stubborn idealism resonates in the patient and almost absurd repetition of a simple gesture in the face of the unpredictable.

O retrato realizado pelo fotógrafo brasileiro reúne duas das principais lideranças indígenas do país, referências nas reflexões sobre meio ambiente, espiritualidade e política. Realizada em 2022, durante a celebração dos 30 anos da homologação da Terra Indígena Yanomami, a fotografia capta o instante em que, segundo Krenak, “um raio de prata desceu do céu azul e fez nascer o arco-íris sobre o Demini”. O trabalho de Braga, pautado pelo engajamento documental, constrói um testemunho histórico e simbólico das alianças interétnicas e da interconectividade dos mundos, redesenhando o debate sobre o futuro do planeta. Inserido em Céu-Eclipse, o retrato funciona como documento e enunciação ética ao ampliar o horizonte do discurso cosmopolítico e reafirmar o protagonismo indígena na imaginação dos céus e da Terra.

EN This portrait by Brazilian photographer Christian Braga brings together two of the country’s most influential Indigenous leaders, central figures in discussions on the environment, spirituality, and politics. Taken in 2022 during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the demarcation of the Yanomami Indigenous Territory, the photograph captures the moment when, as Krenak recounts, “a silver lightning bolt descended from the blue sky and gave birth to the rainbow over the Demini”.

Guided by documentary engagement, Braga’s work constructs both a historical and symbolic testimony to interethnic alliances and the interconnectedness of worlds, reframing the debate on the future of our planet. Within Sky-Eclipse, the portrait serves simultaneously as document and ethical statement, expanding the horizon of cosmopolitical discourse and reaffirming Indigenous leadership in imagining the skies and the Earth.

A pintura de Laís Amaral opera como um procedimento de escavação. Suas superfícies, marcadas por raspagens e vazios, revelam camadas ocultas, como se a luz emergisse do interior da matéria. O gesto é paciente e corporal, feito de raspas, sulcos e intervalos que fazem da tela uma pele em transformação. Ao desvelar o que estava soterrado, a artista produz uma pulsação luminosa que parece respirar sob a tinta, formando uma espécie de céu subterrâneo, onde o tempo se acumula e se dissipa.

EN Laís Amaral’s painting operates as a process of excavation. Her surfaces, marked by scrapings and voids, reveal hidden layers, as though light were emerging from within the material. The gesture is patient and embodied, composed of shavings, grooves, and intervals that render the canvas a skin in transformation. By unveiling what laid buried, the artist produces a luminous pulse that seems to breathe beneath the paint, forming a kind of subterranean sky, where time accumulates and dissipates.

Tombadas ou inclinadas, elas parecem ter sido atingidas por uma força invisível, como se o vento, elemento que dá nome às peças, fosse agente de um deslocamento tanto físico quanto simbólico. Ao ironizar a verticalidade

heroica e a estabilidade do pedestal, Verzutti produz obras que oscilam entre o monumental e o precário, o peso do bronze e a força do ar.

Essa vulnerabilidade controlada as aproxima de forças instáveis, sejam atmosféricas, históricas ou culturais, que desestabilizam estruturas rígidas de muitas ordens. As esculturas se tornam corpos frágeis, testemunhos de um tempo em que o colapso e o desequilíbrio se convertem também em linguagem.

EN The works by Erika Verzutti gathered here form a set that challenges the historical conventions of sculpture and directly echoes the spirit of Sky-Eclipse. Fallen or leaning, they appear to have been struck by an invisible force, as though wind, the element named in the titles, were the agent of a displacement that is both physical and symbolic. By ironizing heroic verticality and the stability of the pedestal, Verzutti produces works that oscillate between the monumental and the precarious, the weight of bronze and the force of air. This controlled vulnerability aligns them with unstable forces, whether atmospheric, historical, or cultural, that unsettle rigid structures of many kinds.

The sculptures become fragile bodies, witnesses to a time in which collapse and imbalance also take shape as language.

5 MARCELO CONCEIÇÃO Sem título [conjunto de esculturas], 2022 Madeira, rolhas, botões e papel / Wood, corks, buttons and paper Cortesia de / Courtesy of Renan Quevedo Durante mais de uma década, Marcelo Conceição viveu nas ruas do Rio de Janeiro recolhendo restos de madeira, rolhas, fios e ferragens, dedicando-se a transformar o que parecia perdido em pequenas máquinas frágeis entre o equilíbrio e o colapso. Essas estruturas, feitas com instrumentos mínimos e materiais recolhidos, guardam algo de instrumento e de enigma e por vezes nos lembram artefatos de orientação, dispositivos de medida ou antenas que parecem captar sinais de um outro plano.

As 18 peças aqui apresentadas se erguem precariamente, como se tentassem medir o espaço ou decifrar o invisível. Voltadas para o alto, guardam certo impulso de ascender.

EN For more than a decade, Marcelo Conceição lived on the streets of Rio de Janeiro collecting scraps of wood, corks, wires, and metal pieces, devoting himself to transforming what seemed forsaken into small, fragile machines poised between balance and collapse. These structures, made with minimal tools and found materials, bear something of both instrument and enigma, at times recalling navigational devices, measuring instruments, or antennas that seem to capture signals from another plane. The eighteen pieces presented here rise precariously, as if attempting to measure space or decipher the invisible. Turned upward, they retain a certain impulse to ascend.

O mito narra o tempo em que o equilíbrio entre os mundos se rompeu e o firmamento ameaçou desabar sobre a Terra, nos servindo hoje como alerta. O artista transpõe motivos gráficos tradicionais para o suporte contemporâneo, utilizando acrílica sobre tela em grande formato.

Suas composições sintetizam conhecimento ambiental, espiritualidade e memória coletiva, articulando modos de ver o mundo que integram humanos, espíritos e natureza. Em Céu-Eclipse, a obra introduz uma perspectiva indígena sobre o firmamento, reafirmando o céu como território vivo e relacional.

EN Created especially for this exhibition, the painting by Yanomami artist Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe derives from ancestral narratives about the fall of the sky — an event central to his people’s cosmology.

The myth recounts a time when the balance between worlds faltered and the firmament threatened to collapse onto the Earth, a story that continues to resonate as warning. Hakihiiwe translates traditional graphic motifs onto a contemporary support, working in large-scale acrylic on canvas. His compositions synthesize environmental knowledge, spirituality, and collective memory, articulating ways of understanding the world that connect humans, spirits,

and the natural environment. Within , the work introduces an Indigenous perspective on the heavens, reaffirming the sky as a living, relational territory.

7 WILLIAM JENNINGS Primeira fotografia de um raio, 1882 Fotografia / Photography Considerada o primeiro registro fotográfico bem-sucedido de um relâmpago, a imagem de Jennings marca um ponto de virada entre ciência e representação. Realizada na Filadélfia, a captura resultou de experimentos técnicos pioneiros com longas exposições noturnas, o que permitiu pela primeira vez visualizar a morfologia de uma descarga elétrica. O feito de Jennings insere a fotografia no campo da observação meteorológica e inaugura uma estética da instantaneidade científica. Ao converter o raio em traço visível, Jennings torna perceptível a energia indômita do céu, num encontro raro entre cálculo técnico e espanto diante das forças da natureza. Sua presença em Céu-Eclipse evidencia o trânsito entre pesquisa empírica e imaginação visual do céu.

EN Considered the first successful photographic record of lightning, Jennings’s image marks a turning point between scientific inquiry and visual representation. Taken in Philadelphia, the photograph was the result of pioneering technical experiments with long nighttime exposures, allowing the morphology of an electrical discharge to be seen for the first time. Jennings’s achievement positions photography within the field of meteorological observation and inaugurates an aesthetic of scientific instantaneity. By converting lightning into a visible trace, he made the sky’s untamed energy perceptible, creating a rare encounter between technical calculation and feelings of awe before the forces of nature. Its presence in Sky-Eclipse highlights the movement between empirical research and the visual imagination of the heavens.

O trabalho das horas, comissionado especialmente para esta mostra, compõe-se de uma linha de sete metros e meio que acompanha o percurso do sol, de leste a oeste. Ao longo dela, 44 abelhas da espécie Melipona quadrifasciata estão dispostas segundo a progressão de Fibonacci, em um movimento que vai do quase invisível ao progressivamente denso, como se o tempo ganhasse corpo. A ideia nasceu quando Flora Leite visitou o Museu Paranaense e encontrou, entre os antigos espécimes de ciências naturais, pequenas abelhas que lhe pareceram “um tipo de relógio vivo, um instrumento de medida feito de tempo e voo”. Desde então, esses insetos se tornaram, para ela, mediadores entre o chão e o cosmos. As mandaçaias, habitantes de um “céu raso”, orientam-se pela luz solar. Na obra, cada abelha marca a passagem de uma hora dentro do ciclo diário, correspondendo às sete horas e meia de abertura do Museu. Quando o sol se põe e o espaço se encerra, a linha adormece com elas, suspendendo o tempo até o dia seguinte.

EN The Work of the Hours, commissioned especially for this exhibition, consists of a sevenand-a-half-meter line that follows the path of the sun from east to west. Along it, forty-four Melipona quadrifasciata bees are arranged according to the Fibonacci progression, in a movement that shifts from the nearly invisible to increasingly dense, as if time were gaining substance. The idea was born when Flora Leite visited the Museu Paranaense and encountered small bees among the old natural-science specimens, creatures that seemed to her like “a kind of living clock, an instrument of measurement made of time and flight.” Since then, these insects have become, for her, mediators between the ground and the cosmos. The mandaçaias, inhabitants of a “shallow sky”, are guided by sunlight. In this work, each bee marks the passage of an hour within the daily cycle, corresponding to the museum’s seven and a half open hours. When the sun sets and the space closes, the line falls asleep with them, suspending time until the next day.

Criada originalmente em 2012 e atualizada para Céu-Eclipse, Temporali exemplifica a investigação de Garutti e convida o público a um diálogo poético com a natureza, destacando as forças interconectadas do mundo natural — “uma trama de correspondências entre o espectador, o espaço da instalação e o céu”, ele diria. Desde sua criação, o artista realiza diferentes versões da obra para diversas cidades, adaptando-a a contextos técnicos e simbólicos específicos. Em Curitiba, o projeto instaura uma ponte entre hemisférios, articulando fenômenos naturais e experiência humana. EN Conceived through a system that links exhibit space to meteorological data, Temporali transforms real-time lightning strikes in Italy into brief pulses of light within the museum, turning a distant atmospheric event into a shared experience.

Originally created in 2012 and updated for SkyEclipse, Temporali exemplifies Garutti’s ongoing inquiry, inviting the public to engage in poetic dialogue with nature and highlighting the interwoven forces of the natural world – “a web of correspondences between the viewer, the installation space, and the sky”, as he would say. Since its creation, the artist has realized different versions of the work for various cities, adapting it to specific technical and symbolic contexts. In Curitiba, the project extends a bridge between hemispheres, articulating natural phenom-

ena and human experience. By converting climate data into a sensitive language, the work translates the aesthetic power of the invisible and reaffirms Garutti’s vocation for transforming everyday life into a device for collective observation, where each flash of light evokes the uncontrollable forces that surround us.

Filmada em plano contínuo, a ação combina risco físico e contemplação, tensionando a fronteira entre a vulnerabilidade humana e as forças naturais. Van der Werve articula corpo, paisagem e tempo geológico como partes de uma mesma composição, onde a escala do gesto humano se confronta com a vastidão do planeta. O deslocamento torna-se aqui um ato de resistência, em que o corpo surge como medida precária diante do tempo profundo e das forças elementares da Terra. A paisagem gélida e o avanço lento do navio compõem um cenário de tensão e suspensão, em que a persistência do artista parece desafiar a iminência do colapso.

Em Céu-Eclipse, a obra propõe uma leitura sobre a dimensão planetária e a fragilidade do sujeito frente aos sistemas climáticos, evocando um sublime contemporâneo ligado à consciência da própria finitude. A justaposição entre fragilidade e monumentalidade, entre o silêncio humano e a potência mecânica, converte o vídeo em uma metáfora da coexistência entre humanidade e natureza: uma coreografia de escalas desiguais, em que cada passo sobre o gelo é também um gesto de sobrevivência e escuta diante do mundo que se move.

EN In this video, the artist walks alone across the frozen surface of the Baltic Sea, followed at close distance by a massive icebreaker. Filmed in long take, the action combines physical risk and contemplation, tightening the boundary between human fragility and natural force. Van der Werve weaves body, landscape, and geological time into a single composition, where the scale of a solitary gesture confronts the immensity of the planet. Movement becomes an act of resistance, the body serving as a precarious measure against deep time and the elemental forces of the Earth. The icy landscape and the ship’s slow advance create a scene of tension and suspension, as if the artist’s persistence challenged the imminence of collapse. In Sky-Eclipse, the work invites reflection on planetary scale and the vulnerability of the human subject within climatic systems, evoking a contemporary sublime shaped by awareness of our own finitude. The juxtaposition of fragility and monumentality, of human silence and mechanical force, turns the video into a metaphor for coexistence between humanity and nature: a choreography of unequal scales, where each step on the ice is also an act of survival and attunement to a world in motion.

AIVAN Inspirada em Die Moritat von Mackie Messer, da ópera “Os Os Três Vinténs”, Vinténs de Bertolt Brecht e Kurt Weill, e em sua reinterpretação por Carmelo Bene nos anos 1980, “Baby Baby Blu em Moritat Celeste — Ato Profano para Voz e Tempestade” Tempestade reencena o gesto teatral como rito meteorológico. Aivan encarnou, no espetáculo preparado para abertura da exposição, uma figura alegórica meio sátiro, meio mensageira, que surge para narrar, em tom de deboche e vaudeville, as perturbações do céu. Entre canto e declamação, acompanhada por uma banda de seis músicos em ritmo de fanfarra marcial, a artista transforma o palco em atmosfera de tempestade, onde ironia e tragédia se misturam como trovões. A performance faz da voz um fenômeno climático, um sopro de ar em convulsão, instaurando uma fábula celeste que tensiona humor e catástrofe, o terreno e o cósmico.

Aivan embodies an allegorical figure, half satyr and half messenger, who in a tone of mockery and vaudeville emerges to narrate the disturbances of the sky. Moving between song and declamation, and accompanied by a six-piece band playing in the rhythm of martial fanfare, the artist transforms the stage into a storm-laden atmosphere, where irony and tragedy mingle like thunderbolts. The performance turns voice into a climatic phenomenon, a breath of air in convulsion, establishing a celestial fable that strains humor and catastrophe, the earthly and the cosmic.

EN A seminal figure who moves between experimental music and the visual arts, Arto Lindsay renders sound, body, and noise as physical matter. Since the 1970s, when he took part in New York’s “No wave” scene with the band DNA, his practice has explored noise not as mere acoustic accident but as a form of expanded perception, transforming distortion in language and sound into a way of drawing space. Lindsay presented a performance at the Sky-Eclipse opening, turning the exhibition space into a vibrating field. Amid feedback, whispers, and pulsations, the artist evoked a turbulent sonic sky in which listening becomes a physical experience. His performative gesture places audition at the center of the project, proposing a kind of atmospheric perception, closer to the invisible forces that traverse the world.

Desde os anos 1970, quando integrou a cena no wave nova-iorquina com a banda DNA, sua prática tem explorado o ruído não como mero acidente acústico, mas como forma de percepção expandida, transformando distorção em linguagem e o som, um modo de desenhar o espaço. Para CÉU-ECLIPSE, Lindsay realizou uma apresentação na abertura que transformou o espaço expositivo em campo vibratório. Entre microfonias, sussurros e pulsações, o artista evocou um céu sonoro em turbulência, no qual a escuta se converte em experiência física. O gesto performativo insere a audição no centro do projeto, propondo uma espécie de percepção atmosférica mais próxima das forças invisíveis que atravessam o mundo.

Filósofa, professora emérita da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, especializada na metafísica moderna. Ao longo das últimas duas décadas, tornou-se uma das maiores estudiosas do colapso climático na área das ciências humanas no Brasil e militante pela causa da Terra. É autora, entre outros trabalhos, de “Há mundo por vir? Ensaio sobre os medos e os fins” (2014), com Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, e de “A chuva desmancha todos os fatos: ensaios de filosofia” (2024).

Artista e xamã Yanomami, residente da comunidade indígena de Pori Pori, localizada em Alto Orinoco, na Venezuela. Seus trabalhos amparam-se na memória oral, na cosmologia e nos saberes ancestrais de seu povo. Desenvolve, por meio do desenho, uma linguagem sintética, concreta e minimalista sobre a vasta e intensa relação de sua comunidade com a paisagem que a rodeia. Essas ligações permeiam o âmbito do pessoal e do coletivo, sendo seu trabalho uma revisão contemporânea da cosmogonia e do imaginário Yanomami.

EN Philosopher and Professor Emeritus at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Danowski specializes in modern metaphysics. Over the past two decades, she has become one of Brazil’s foremost Humanities scholars on climate collapse, as well as an advocate for the cause of our Earth.

She is the author, among other works, of “Há mundo por vir? Ensaio sobre os medos e os fins” (Is There a World to Come? Essays on Fears and Ends) (2014), co-written with Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, and “A chuva desmancha todos os fatos: ensaios de filosofia” (The Rain Dissolves All Facts: Philosophical Essays) (2024).

EN Yanomami artist and shaman, Hakihiiwe lives in the Indigenous community of Pori Pori, located in Alto Orinoco, Venezuela. His work is grounded in the oral memory, cosmology, and ancestral knowledge of his people. Through drawing, he develops a synthetic, concrete, and minimalist language that addresses his community’s vast and profound relationship with its surrounding landscape. These connections permeate both personal and collective realms, making his work a contemporary revisiting of Yanomami cosmogony and imagination.

Alberto GARUTTI Foi uma das figuras de referência na cena artística italiana e internacional dos últimos 50 anos. Artista e professor, lecionou de 1990 a 1994 na Academia de Bolonha e, de 1994 a 2013, foi titular da cátedra de Pintura na Academia de Brera, em Milão. Sempre interessado em explorar os espaços e as dinâmicas de relação entre obra, espectador e instituição, transformou as formas de fazer arte pública, redefinindo radicalmente os seus processos de concepção. Suas obras são concebidas como sistemas abertos de relação, formas de encontro entre os cidadãos, os espectadores da arte e a paisagem, sutis leituras críticas do nosso presente.

EN Garutti was one of the leading figures in the Italian and international art scene over the past fifty years. Artist and professor, he taught at the Academy of Bologna from 1990 to 1994 and was Chair in Painting at the Brera Academy in Milan from 1994 to 2013. Consistently interested in exploring spaces and the dynamics of relations between artwork, viewer, and institution, he transformed approaches to public art, radically redefining its conceptual processes. His works are conceived as open relational systems, forms of encounter among citizens, art audiences, and the landscape, and constitute subtle critical readings of our present.

Erika VERZUTTI Trabalhando materiais como o papel machê, bronze, gesso, concreto, tinta acrílica, óleo e cera, a artista brasileira ocupa uma zona de contato entre a pintura e a escultura. Explora formas orgânicas em conjunto com um processo empírico de moldagem manual. As superfícies de suas esculturas são frequentemente rugosas, riscadas, escavadas e recortadas.

Sua prática encontra um intercâmbio entre propriedades materiais e carga simbólica, reprocessando tanto a escultura modernista quanto a construção vernacular. A rede de

alusão criada pelas esculturas de Verzutti produz um campo de ressonâncias entre as figuras construídas e as referências culturais que seus contornos e silhuetas evocam.

EN A Dutch-born artist and filmmaker, he was encouraged from childhood to develop musical skills. He later expanded his interests into performance and audiovisual arts. Performance, music, text, sports, and atmospheric scenes are recurring elements in his works, characterized by long meditative takes and by his refusal to work with actors.

Natural de Niterói, iniciou sua carreira artística em 2017 por meio do coletivo Trovoa, discutindo questões sociorraciais e de gênero e seu impacto no campo das artes. Autodenomina-se uma “artista-artesã” e desafia as fronteiras entre arte e artesanato. Utiliza ferramentas não convencionais, como instrumentos de manicure e pentes, e questiona as noções tradicionais da abstração ocidental. Suas pinturas funcionam como narrativas visuais e empregam técnicas como camadas e raspagem de tinta preta sobre composições coloridas para revelar histórias ocultas, de forma análoga a uma escavação arqueológica.

EN Born in Niterói, she began her artistic career in 2017 through the collective Trovoa, addressing socio-racial and gender issues and their impact on the arts. Self-described as an “artist-artisan”, she challenges the boundaries between art and craft, using unconventional tools such as manicure instruments and combs to question traditional Western notions of abstraction. Her paintings function as visual narratives, employing techniques such as layering and scraping black paint over colorful compositions to reveal hidden stories, akin to archaeological excavation.

Marcelo CONCEIÇÃO Artista fluminense, autodenomina-se um garimpeiro urbano. Os materiais que compõem suas obras são carretéis, miçangas, botões, fivelas, tampas, rolhas, contas, búzios, cascas de coco, argolas de cortina, sobras de instalações elétricas e uma infinidade de outros apetrechos encontrados pelas ruas do Rio de Janeiro. A aparente leveza das composições contrasta com a densidade das articulações que ora sugerem movimentos brandos e elípticos, ora ameaçam com extremidades pontiagudas e bélicas.

EN An artist from Rio de Janeiro, he describes himself as an urban prospector. The materials that compose his works include spools, beads, buttons, buckles, bottle caps, corks, shells, coconut husks,

curtain rings, remnants of electrical installations, and a multitude of other objects found on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. The apparent lightness of his composition contrasts with the density of expressions that at times suggest gentle, elliptical movements, and at others threaten with sharp, warlike extremities.

AIVAN Multiartista pernambucana, transita entre o teatro, a música e a performance. Iniciou sua carreira nas artes na década de 1980 como cantora e, atualmente, integra o MEXA, coletivo artístico criado em 2015 por pessoas LGBTQIA+ no contexto das Casas de Acolhida de São Paulo.

EN A multi-artist from Pernambuco, she moves between theater, music, and performance. She began her career in the arts in the 1980s as a singer and currently belongs to MEXA, an artists’ collective created in 2015 by LGBTQIA+ individuals within the context of São Paulo’s Casas de Acolhida (Shelter Homes).

Arto LINDSAY Músico, compositor e produtor estadunidense que reside no Brasil desde a infância. À frente da banda Ambitious Lovers, inovou ao criar um estilo musical que mesclava samba, R&B e experimentalismos. Produziu discos de Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, David Byrne e Ilê Aiyê, entre muitos outros. Colaborou em projetos desenvolvidos em parceria com artistas plásticos, entre eles, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Matthew Barney, Vito Acconci, Renata Lucas, Tunga e Rivane Neuenschwander. Fomentador do carnaval baiano, tem se dedicado a construir desfiles próprios como forma de performance e instalação ambulante.

EN An American musician, composer, and producer who has lived in Brazil since childhood. At the innovative head of the band Ambitious Lovers, he created a musical style blending samba, R&B, and experimental approaches. He has produced albums for Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, David Byrne, and Ilê Aiyê, among many others, and has collaborated on projects done in partnership with visual artists including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Matthew Barney, Vito Acconci, Renata Lucas, Tunga, and Rivane Neuenschwander. A key promoter of the Bahia Carnival, he has devoted himself to creating his own parades, as a form of performance and itinerant installation.

PARANAENSE CÉU-ECLIPSE está ancorada em movimentações que relacionam o local e o global no desejo de pensar os desafios do tempo presente. Nesta mostra, o MUPA reafirma a centralidade dos seus eixos norteadores — Identidades Múltiplas, Ecologia, Memória e Cosmovisões — para propor indagações que chamam à agência. Como deve um museu se colocar diante da crise climática que atravessa os anos? Como podemos, todos, atuar em meio a ela?

A meteorologia é aqui reconhecida em seu valor científico e para além dele.

Situada no epicentro da proposta, ela age como protagonista de uma teia de relações que envolve e conecta diferentes seres. Nessa simbiose, convidamos ao diálogo as múltiplas formas de entender, viver e encarar o tempo, seja este cronológico, social ou ambiental.

Recebemos para tanto o trabalho de artistas nacionais e internacionais que permitem interligar uma pluralidade de linguagens verbais, não verbais, científicas, artísticas e históricas. No mesmo ano em que a COP 30 chega ao Brasil, nos propomos a ouvir essas linguagens ativamente, vivenciá-las, percebê-las e registrar tudo aquilo que nunca esteve em silêncio. Com temporais e eclipses, o céu se faz escutar no seu próprio idioma.

Uma sonoridade palpável que une sujeitos humanos e não humanos em uma mesma atmosfera.

As disciplinas científicas tradicionais do MUPA se desenvolvem na mostra em comunhão com as práticas contemporâneas, viabilizando a interposição de diferentes temporalidades. Ao desvencilhar o passado da ideia de imutabilidade e reconhecer no hoje a não linearidade dos seus efeitos, a proposta se aproxima dos conceitos de tempo e de clima, enxergando neles o ponto de convergência entre o instante e a longa duração.

Estão articuladas neste espaço perspectivas plurais, que abrangem os saberes e fazeres da cultura, biologia, tecnologia e cosmologia. Para além das urgências atuais, o fio condutor se enraíza em meio ao acervo e à história do próprio Museu, a partir da figura de Reinhard Maack. Encontramos, assim, a oportunidade de refletir sobre o papel dialético das instituições culturais, compreendidas nesse contexto como agentes promotores de trocas, ideias e modos de agir no mundo.

Fazer desta uma construção contínua, que precede e ultrapassa a extensão de CÉUECLIPSE, é o convite central do MUPA para o público que aqui se encontra. Nosso incentivo é por uma busca perene, que esteja sempre circunscrita à possibilidade de trilhar um futuro conjunto para as diferentes formas de vida.

EN Sky-Eclipse is anchored in movements that connect the local and the global in a desire to reflect on the challenges of the present. In this exhibit, the MUPA reaffirms the centrality of its guiding principles — Multiple Identities, Ecology, Memory, and Worldviews — to propose reflections that call for agency. How should a museum position itself in the face of the climate crisis that has spanned the years? How can we all act in its midst?

Meteorology is recognized here for both its scientific value and beyond. Situated at the epicenter of our proposal, it acts as a protagonist in a web of relationships that involves and connects different beings. In this symbiosis, we invite dialogue on the multiple ways of understanding, experiencing, and confronting time, whether chronological, social, or environmental.

To this end, and in our eagerness to interconnect a plurality of languages—verbal, non-verbal,

scientific, artistic, and historical — we welcome the work of national and international artists. In the same year that the COP 30 comes to Brazil, we propose to actively listen to these plural languages; to experience them, perceive them, and record all that has never been silent. Through storms and eclipses, the sky makes itself heard in its own language. It is a palpable sonority that unites human and non-human subjects within the same atmosphere.

The MUPA’s traditional scientific disciplines are developed within the exhibit in conjunction with contemporary practices, enabling the interposition of different temporalities. By disentangling the past from the idea of ​​immutability and recognizing the non-linearity of its effects in the present, our proposal approaches the concepts of weather and climate, finding in them the point of convergence between the instant and the long duration.

Plural perspectives find connected expression within this space, encompassing the knowledge and practices of culture, biology, technology, and cosmology. Beyond current urgencies, our guiding thread is rooted in the museum’s own collection and history, through the figure of Reinhard Maack. We thus find an opportunity to reflect on the dialectical role of cultural institutions, understood in this context as agents that promote exchange, ideas, and ways of acting in the world.

To make of this a continuous process construction, one that precedes and surpasses the scope of Sky-Eclipse Sky-Eclipse, is the MUPA’s central invitation to the public gathered here. We encourage perennial search, always circumscribed by the possibility of forging a shared future for different forms of life.

Reinhard

MAACK Reinhard Maack, geólogo, geógrafo e topógrafo, nasceu em Herford, na Alemanha, em 1892, e faleceu em Curitiba, em 1969.

Na infância, já despertava interesse pelos conhecimentos científicos e, especialmente, pela astronomia, estudando profundamente mapas celestes e suas constelações.

Fez explorações no sudeste da África entre 1911 e 1921, quando integrava o exército alemão. Identificou importantes sítios arqueológicos com pinturas rupestres na Namíbia e caracterizou rochas que, mais tarde, concluiu estarem associadas à América do Sul. Mudouse para o Brasil em 1923, onde trabalhou inicialmente como engenheiro geólogo em áreas diamantíferas do Rio Tibagi.

Em 1933, instalou-se em uma propriedade na atual cidade de Faxinal, no norte central paranaense, que se configurava como um território ainda pouco explorado do Estado do Paraná. Num contexto em que o ambientalismo não era uma pauta amplamente discutida na sociedade, atuou de forma pioneira ao empreender nesse local a construção de uma estação meteorológica, onde media três vezes ao dia a pressão do ar, temperatura, umidade relativa, ventos, nuvens e precipitações. Para manter a regularidade dos índices durante suas expedições pelo Estado, contou com a indispensável contribuição de sua esposa, a cientista política Margarete Neussel, que operava os equipamentos de medição durante sua ausência.

Ao correlacionar as rochas encontradas em suas expedições pelo território paranaense com aquelas visualizadas no continente africano, elaborou uma tese que confirmava a teoria da deriva continental e do supercontinente Gondwana, de Alfred Wegener, geólogo, geofísico e meteorologista

alemão. Premiada internacionalmente, a tese de Maack rendeu a ele a medalha Karl Ritter, cedida pela Sociedade Geográfica de Berlim, em 1959.

Seus levantamentos topográficos na Serra do Mar atualizaram informações sobre os pontos mais altos e a disposição geomorfológica de picos inacessíveis. A rica documentação existente no Museu Paranaense evidencia seus cálculos trigonométricos precisos para aferir altitudes e ampliar os dados planialtimétricos obtendo mapas topográficos únicos de várias regiões do Paraná, especialmente da parte leste do Estado.

Mapeando em detalhe as rochas, relevo e flora do Paraná através de um amplo levantamento, cujas bases são usadas até a atualidade, foi um ferrenho defensor da conservação dos solos e das matas nativas.

Cientista renomado, atuou como professor de geologia e paleontologia na Universidade Federal do Paraná e como pesquisador no Museu Paranaense, formando gerações de profissionais em diferentes áreas, como a geologia, geografia, biologia e arqueologia.

EN Reinhard Maack, geologist, geographer and topographer, was born in Herford, Germany, in 1892, and died in Curitiba in 1969. From childhood, he demonstrated an early fascination for scientific knowledge, especially astronomy, studying celestial maps and their constellations in great depth.

From 1911 to 1921, during his service in the German Army, he explored southeastern Africa, identifying significant archaeological sites in Namibia with rock paintings and examining rock formations that he would later recognize as similar to those of South America. He came to Brazil in 1923, beginning his work as a geological engineer in the diamond fields along the Tibagi River.

In 1933, Maack settled on a property in what is now the city of Faxinal, in the north-central region of Paraná then still a scantly explored territory.

At a time when environmental concerns were far from common in public discourse, he became an early pioneer by building a meteorological station on the site, measuring air pressure, temperature, relative humidity, winds, cloud cover, and rainfall three times a day. To maintain the consistency of these records during his expeditions across the state, he relied on the indispensable contribution of his wife, political scientist Margarete Neussel, who operated the instruments in his absence.

By correlating the rock formations he encountered throughout Paraná with those he had observed in Africa, he developed a thesis that confirmed Alfred Wegener’s theory of continental drift and the supercontinent Gondwana. Internationally acclaimed, Maack’s thesis earned him the Karl Ritter Medal, awarded by the Berlin Geographical Society in 1959.

Maack’s topographic surveys of the Serra do Mar updated existing information on the region’s highest points and the geomorphological configuration of previously inaccessible peaks. Extensive documentation kept at the Museu Paranaense reveals the precise trigonometric calculations he used to determine altitudes and expand planialtimetric data, producing unique topographic maps of various regions of Paraná, especially its eastern portion.

By detailed mapping of the rocks, landscapes, and flora of Paraná through an extensive survey whose foundations are still used today, Maack became a staunch advocate for the conservation of soils and native forests. A renowned scientist, he worked as a professor of geology and paleontology at the Federal University of Paraná and as a Museu Paranaense researcher, training generations of professionals in fields such as geology, geography, biology, and archaeology.

PROJETO EXPOGRÁFICO EXHIBIT DESIGN

O projeto expográfico de CÉU-ECLIPSE utiliza uma estrutura autoportante instalada ao longo de todo o perímetro da galeria. Sobre essa estrutura é tensionada uma membrana contínua de lona translúcida, originalmente desenvolvida para estufas agrícolas. A solução define um novo limite espacial interno e modifica os parâmetros de incidência, difusão e reflexão da luz. O resultado é um ambiente de luminosidade uniforme, com redução do contraste entre superfícies e menor leitura da arquitetura original.

A continuidade da membrana interrompe-se apenas na área correspondente ao vitral. Nesse ponto, a estrutura é finalizada em uma altura predefinida, mantendo aberta a visada para o céu e instaurando um ponto de exceção no conjunto expográfico, que configura um eixo de referência externa direta, em diálogo com o conceito curatorial.

A seleção da lona obedece a critérios de reaproveitamento industrial e otimização de recursos. O material empregado é derivado de refugos de produção triturados e posteriormente reinseridos no processo

fabril, resultando em um composto reciclado adequado às exigências estruturais e óticas da expografia, além de lotes fora de especificação comercial, predominantemente por variação de espessura, embora com propriedades de proteção UV e resistência mecânica plenamente preservadas. O uso desses recursos reduz a demanda por matéria-prima e amplia o ciclo de vida útil do material no contexto museográfico.

Após o encerramento da exposição, toda a lona será redirecionada para a construção de uma estufa no espaço externo do Museu, projeto desenvolvido pelo Núcleo de Arquitetura do MUPA. A estrutura irá abrigar espécies vegetais do Jardim do MUPA e servirá como ponto de alimentação e polinização para as abelhas nativas sem ferrão presentes no local. A estufa terá geometria hexagonal e contará com um sistema integrado de captação de água da chuva, cujo fluxo será conduzido a um reservatório destinado à irrigação, estabelecendo uma corrente contínua que conecta em um mesmo sistema circular céu, terra e água.

EN The exhibit design for Sky-Eclipse employs a self-supporting structure installed along the entire perimeter of the gallery. Stretched across this structure is a continuous membrane of translucent canvas originally developed for agricultural greenhouses. This solution establishes a new internal spatial boundary and alters the parameters of light incidence, diffusion, and reflection. The result is an environment of uniform luminosity, with reduced contrast between surfaces and a softened perception of the original architecture.

window. There, the structure is terminated at a predetermined height, keeping the view of the sky unobstructed and introducing a point of exception within the exhibit design, an axis of direct external reference that resonates with the curatorial concept.

Canvas selection follows criteria of industrial reuse and resource optimization. The material used derives from manufacturing byproducts, shredded and subsequently reintegrated into the production process, becoming a recycled composite suitable for the structural and op tical requirements of our exhibit design. It also derives from off-spec industrial batches, cast aside mainly due to variations in thickness, yet maintaining fully preserved UV protection and mechanical resistance. The use of these substances reduces

the demand for raw material and extends the material’s lifecycle within our museographic context.

When this exhibit closes, all the canvas will be redirected toward the construction of a greenhouse in the museum’s outdoor area, a project developed by the MUPA’s Architecture Department. The structure will house plant species from the MUPA Garden and serve as a feeding and pollination site for the native stingless bees living on the grounds. Greenhouse geometry will be hexagonal, featuring an integrated rainwater harvesting system whose flow is routed to an irrigation reservoir, establishing a continuous circuit that connects sky, earth, and water within the same circular system.
