Welcome to Looking Smart 2006

Yes , you 're eager to check out this year's Catalogue but please read on, we 've got lots to tell you!

Most St. John Ambulance Members already know St. John Supplies; who we are, where we are and what we offer: However. we'd like to take this opportunity to make sure that all Members know exactly what we do.

We are THE ONLY APPROVED SUPPLIER of St. John Ambulance clothing and branded merchandise. What does this mean? Well, all uniforms are approved by the Dress Regulations Committee, ensuring the garments are of a high quality and up to the job.

Why buy elsewhere? Uniquely, all of SJS's trading income, which includes sales from Looking Smart, is returned to the charity, no other company can make that claim!

The Catalogue

We design the catalogue with you, the Members in mind. That's why this year we're bigger than ever! We have new products and bigger sections to make it easy to find what you're looking for:

New,New,New

There is a great selection of new products, including a Transport Services Bomber Jacket, a great addition to the range; see page 16 for details. If you're a Cycle Responder check out the products we've introduced to the range, from page I8

We have also introduced a whole new bag section, there's now a fantastic choice of styles, including the SJS Exclusive range, see page 30-33.

The publications section has grown. This year there are new Youth publications and as you will see, more sections to make it easier to find what you're looking for:

Unsure what to buy a Member who deserves recognition? Check out the gifts and awards section, from high quality crystal and silver-plated gifts to beautiful plaques; there's something for everyone.

Ladies Only

Due to popular demand we have moved to 'high street' sizing for some of the ladies trousers; this should ensure a better fit. We have changed the following garments: women 's trousers (U 14021, p7); women's combat trousers (U 14287, p9); women s green two -piece trousers (U 14302); women's black two-piece trousers (U 14303), both on p 13.

Profiles

Thank you to Caroline Burrows, Karandeep Singh Chana, Elizabeth Greenfield, Jack Mace, Michael Nugent and Nick Sillet for agreeing to have their profiles in Looking Smart 2006.

We hope you find everything you need but if you're unable to, why not contact our friendly Customer Services department and they will do their best to help. Happy shopping!

St. John Ambulance is a name used regularly in Elizabeth Greenfield 's household. Since joining in 1972 , Elizabeth ha s made her mark with St. John Not only is she a Trainer she's also Divisional Superi ntendent for Epsom & o Ewell in Surre y and around 2 yea rs ago she set up the Chantonbury Neighbourhood First Responder unit in Sussex!

Living in Ashington Sussex, Elizabeth felt that the village and sur rounding area known as Chantonbury needed a NFR unit.

E li zabeth explains, "we live in quite a remote area and I felt that it would be really beneficial for the community to have a NFR unit. The hard work of setting up the unit has paid off hough as we've already been on 185 jobs!"

Fantastically, Elizabeth herself, along with a fellow NFR, saved a 2 1/2 hour old baby 's life whilst on duty as a NFR, she explains "it was wonderful to be able to put my First Aid skills to such goo d use and thankfully it was a happy ending. The little boy is thriving and we stil1 keep in touch with his parents it s been rea lly rewarding seeing that he's doing so weI!."

So in between saving lives, training people to potentially save a life and running a thriving Division does Elizabeth have any s pare time left? "Not much!" she laughs "SJA is a big part of my life which I wouldn't change but luckily my husband and so ns are also involved with St. John so they understand!"

As a keen volunteer, Michael wanted to continue his good work, thus decided to join St. John Ambulance around 5 years ago Michael likes to stay on the move, so when the opportunity arose to become a Cycle Responder he jumped at the chance! Having moved to Brentwood in Essex, with financial baclcing from County Office Michael set up the Cycle Responder Unit there Michael explains "I'm enthusiastic about not only being part of St. John but also being a Cycle Responder It s a fantastic idea, at crowded events where it could possibly take an ambulance valuable time to get through the crowds a bike can get to the accident in a relatively short time , as well as being quicker than on foot. The SJA bikes are also suitable for off road which can be really beneficial." He continues , "OUf Unit is small at the moment but we've had lots of help getting equipment and setting up and I'm sure we'll grow. Our first group has gone through the National Cycle Standard level 3 and we are looking forward to talcing our IPMBA EMS course "

As well a local operations , Michael has been to various bigger duties as a Cycle Responder, from a Folk festival in Cambridge to a torchlight carnival at Southend and even helped at Trooping The Colour in London With these and other duties to 'respond' to there 's no likelihood ofa rusty bike in the Brentwood Division!
