How to attach cloth rank markings
The cloth rank markings are on a black backing and can be sewn onto the rank slid es. Copydex adhesive can be used for speed , but might not stand the rigours of dry cleaning. The rank slid es will accommodate all rank markings but when worn with letter R or profe ssional nurse markings it may be ne cessary to trim the black backing on the rank stars. Remember though that rank star continue to be affixed point to point, not square on

HOW TO MAKE THE NURSING CADETS OUTDOOR HAT
The Nursing Cadet Outdoor hat is available, code number U08300 (see page 33 ) but for home dressmaking, patterns and materials are supplied and may be ordered in the normal manner.
Pattern
(1) Using Indoor Paper Cap as basic gu ide extend turn back by 3 '// (Fig. 1)
(2) Add seam allowance around the whole pattern. This size should fit most cadets but for juniors and smaller girls the pattern will probably be adequate without adding this seam allowance if taking seams of not more than W'

1 piece black material A-E , approx 15" x 15 Y4" Order U06605 in units of a quarter metre.
1 piece of red quilted lining A-C , approx 15 /1 x BY4/1 Order U06606 in units of a quarter metre.
1 piece white corded silk ribbon 15/1 X 'h " Order U11450 in units of one metre.

To make
(1) On wrong side interface between CD , using a catchstitch which is barely visible on the right side.
(2) On right side stitch white ribbon , running absolutely central between lines C-D (Fig. 1)
(3) Along lin e 0 , fold back the facing of turn back (right sides together ) and tack on seam line D-C both sides (Fig. 2). With wrong side uppermost tack red quilted lining all round from C-B , A , etc , to C , leaving the horizontal line C-C unstitiched in order to turn right sides out. Machine stitch. Before turning to right side trim seam turnings to '/4 " , snip points near stitching and clip curved seam edges (Fig. 3).

(4) Turn hat right sides out. Press turn back well with a damp cloth. Press remainder with damp cloth allowing red lining to show at the back edges Care should be taken to make good points at A and B. (Fig. 4).
(5) Carefully handstitch the two materials together along the line C-C after turning under the black material seam allowance The stitches should not be taken through to the underlying material

(6) Finish off with press studs to secure points A at the back which should meet but not overlap. Also to fasten points of turn back at B (Fig 4).
