The modern Order of St John’s Annual Reports were produced from the very early days of the modern Order’s inception. This volume contains: the Roll of the Dignitaries, Ministers, Members, and Associates of the Sovereign, Military and Religious Order of St. John of Jerusalem in Anglia, the Annual Report of the Chapter presented to the Chapter General on St. John Baptist's Day 1870, Prayers used in St John Baptist's Day service, and Proposed Statutes of the confraternity of St. John of Jerusalem in England for 1871.
Of particular interest is: the original mention of the Order of St John providing aid in mining and pottery districts, and instituting a gallantry medal for life-saving acts on land; a translation of 'Help for the Sick and Wounded' from German to English by Captain Burgess and Mr Furley; and a resolution passed for the National Central Committee to support aid work in wartime in connection with International Committee in Geneva.
