Free care offered to area residents More than 1,100 Lowcountry adults participated in the free community health care and dental care event Aug. 23 – 24 at the Charleston Area Convention Center. S.C. Mission 2013 Lowcountry was sponsored by the S.C. Hospital Association. The event involved faculty, residents and nurse practitioners from the MUSC Department of Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine & Geriatrics, MUSC Women’s Care and the College of Nursing. Dental Access Days sponsored by the S.C. Dental Association and MUSC’s James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. Right photo: S.C. Mission 2013 Lowcountry offered free community medical and vision care services for uninsured and underinsured Tri-county adults. Patients needing glasses were able to choose frames that were then fitted for them. Volunteers worked in make-shift exam rooms and triage stations to assess patients for diabetes, hypertention, ear and respiratory infections and other conditions.
