Put Murrindindi on your table

The Murrindindi Food and Wine Group (MFWG) has led a campaign to encourage local and regional residents, chefs and cooks to put Murrindindi on their Tables. President of MFWG, local blueberry grower and co-owner of Sassy Sister Liqueur, Rob Mitchell, explains: “Our campaign in the lead up to Christmas 2021 is to encourage everyone to support local producers. To achieve this goal, we secured a Community Projects and Events Grant via Murrindindi Shire Council.”

“The objectives for this campaign are to raise awareness of MFWG, our trademark and our wonderful growers, producers and manufacturers. It’s also about collaboration with the shire, all stakeholders and partner organisations such as the Murrindindi Winemakers, with whom we have a Memorandum of Understanding – in the spirit of reciprocal promotional activities.” Campaign co-ordinator and MFWG secretary, Sam Hicks, has overseen the collation of the Murrindindi Supplier’s Guide and website updates which can be viewed on: murrindindifoodandwine. org.au. The Supplier’s Guide is in a flipbook and downloadable format. Website additions also include a series of online videos created to highlight our regional champions with stunning photos used to create ongoing producer highlights. According to Sam: “We wanted to recognise our 20-year Murrindindi food and wine history as an organisation, with snippets and flashbacks and a story of achievements, highlighting our members, our producers and depth of our suppliers listed in the new Guide.” “Our members are mainly boutique in scale and have been affected by the slowing or complete stopping of trade due to COVID. This campaign will give us all a boost and turn community attention to the exceptional quality of our produce and the ongoing benefits of supporting local. We also aim to reinforce the notion that every purchase or even a shared link on social media will help to not just sustain us but continue a momentum in which we thrive.”
The services of James “Turbo” Anderson from Turbo 360 were secured to create a group of videos and images that are used both on the group’s website and subsequent social media campaign. This will be underpinned with a local community radio campaign on UGFM in the immediate lead up to Christmas. “We chose James for the video and photographic productions as we had seen his work before. He is highly professional and passionate about the whole Northeast region and has worked with many of our members and affiliates. James also continues to work hard behind the scenes with lakeeildon. com,” Sam says. Local wine growers and producers Christine and Phil Challen from Little River Wines in Taggerty, Phil Lobley of

Lobley Wines in Glenburn, and Lyn Cunningham of Wild Crust Bakeries came on board, as did many of our producers for the first photo shoot and video recordings at Grant Street Grocer in Alexandra last May. Lisa and Alan Harding, proprietors of Grant St. Grocer, set up a long grazing table highlighting wine, beer, ciders, meats, vegetables, hamper offerings and even locally grown flowers from well over twenty producers. “The table brimmed with all things local,” Sam says. Rob adds: “I really want to thank all who’ve been interested, encouraging and involved and to our funding partners, Murrindindi Shire Council and to our local producers.” And the message MFWG is shouting out to everyone is: “Put Murrindindi on your Table” this year. The lead up to Christmas is an opportunity to go out shopping and support our local people and their industries. Check out the group’s social media accounts, see the videos and producer highlights. So far, the group has showcased, cherries, honey, wines, cafes, olives, craft beer, locally roasted coffee, and a butcher. Way back Wednesdays reminisces on the group’s happenings since its inception in 2001, the group has had guest speakers, events such as Meet the Maker nights, coordinated world’s longest lunches and held many business evenings.
