Welcome to the Ms. MSU Pageant! On behalf of the Ms. MSU Production Staff, Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board, we would like to welcome you to the 2021 Ms. Murray State University Scholarship Pageant. I want to extend a special thanks to our friends, families, contestants, and supporters who have made the commitment to this event and the tradition that it holds. I would like to thank a few special people that have made tonight possible and have shown me support in every way. First of all, this night truly would not be possible without the help of Mrs. Jeanie Morgan and Ms. Claudia Burcham. Thank you for your guidance, knowledge, and encouragement throughout the past year. The Murray State students and this entire community are so very lucky to have you. To Cassie Wooley, thank you for being a true example of a woman who represents Murray State in the best possible way and giving me so much guidance and help along the way. To be selected to compete tonight, the top fifteen contestants went through an interview process of over fifty ladies and each were selected to have a part in tonight’s show. They are all so deserving of this honor. They are so impactful on Murray State’s campus and have been such a pleasure to work with. I am so excited for you all to see the hard work these contestants have put in over the past few months in order to represent themselves and their nominating organizations well. Again, thank you for being here and enjoy the show!

What a wild year it has been serving as Ms. Murray State University 2020! Just like everything else in 2020, my term as Ms. MSU didn’t go as normally planned. I may not have received the opportunities that a typical Ms. Murray State gets to experience, but that doesn’t make me any less thankful. As a result, my farewell letter to my Murray community is a little different as well. Murray has been a home to me these past four years. This campus has given me countless memories, opportunities, laughs, and lessons. The impact of your college experience is rarely defined by the time in the classrooms or spent studying. It’s defined by you and your roommates going through tough times together and offering the best advice when you need it. It’s defined by getting into the organization or leadership position you hoped for. It’s having faculty that makes you genuinely miss them when you no longer speak to them every day (I’m talking about you Kim Newbern), and defined by a willingness to change. With this being my last semester of college, I’m able to look back at my 18 year old self when she first moved into Regents Residential College. That version of me had an idea of what Murray would be like, living independently away from home and learning what it’s like to find myself and my people in a somewhat foreign place. That girl had no idea that three years later she would be lucky enough to represent this university that gave her so much. I was lucky enough to know all Ms. Murray State’s who served while I have been here, and all were women who were so kind and poised. I hope I lived up to their legacy in my short reign. I want to thank the Murray community for the kindness not only this past year but the past four. I vote that Murray receives the title of “Friendliest Town in America” a second time if I have any say! To my family… thank you for the constant support. Dad, I would not have the confidence and be who I am if it wasn’t for you. Thank you for listening to my many girl problems and always giving the best advice. Amy, thank you for loving me as your own. Mom was lucky to have you as a best friend and I am lucky to have you for your encouragement and love. Although my Mom may not be here anymore, I will always have attending this university in common with her and I like to think she would be proud of the woman it has made me out to be. Murray State, thank you especially for helping me grow into the woman standing here tonight. Thank you so much for letting me represent you for the past year, it will forever be such a special memory. To the girl I will crown tonight, enjoy every moment and make the most of every opportunity.
