Achievements Swarthmore College

Lobo Collegiate Academy is a cohort of selected LEHS students who will participate in extensive dual-credit coursework through North Central Texas College (NCTC), beginning in the freshman year of high school, with the goal of being core complete upon high school graduation. During its first year in 2020-2021, 25 students participated with an additional 20 incoming students in the fall. Students accepted into the academy will be expected to earn up to 50 hours of dual credit.

And the rest is history.

After working in Little Elm ISD for five years, Harlow realized just how much she loved the people she worked with.

“I made some really good friends, and I couldn’t see myself working with anyone else. So I stayed,” she said. “Then I fell more in love with the families, teaching siblings, and having the support and love of the same families.”

ello, my name is Sarah Merrill and I graduated from Little Elm High School in February of 2019. During my first semester of my senior year, I learned about

Lobo Academy, a program to help students catch up on their credits for graduation.

I was accepted into the program and after a month of hard work and perseverance, I finished the rest of the required classes I needed to graduate early. I was grateful for this opportunity through LEHS because it afforded me the time to explore different career options and find a major I wanted to focus on in college.

In the fall of 2019, I began my studies at Collin College, still unsure of what I wanted to do as a career. I chose to pursue an associate degree in science and enrolled in courses like math and economics. Then COVID hit mid-way through my second semester, and like many college students, I had to make a swift adjustment to my college learning experience.

os quedamos cortos al decir que estamos impacientes por iniciar un año escolar normal este próximo agosto. Lo que quiero decir con esto es que estamos

preparados para eliminar todas las distracciones que nos mantuvieron alejados de tener conexiones profundas con nuestros alumnos y familias. Estamos listos para

abrir las puertas y darles a ustedes la bienvenida dentro de nuestras escuelas. Es el momento de retornar al sentido de comunidad con nuestros alumnos, maestros y padres de familia, que tanto valoramos .

Una de las herramientas de comunicación más efectivas que perdimos el año pasado fue la capacidad de conectarnos emocionalmente.

Nuestros alumnos tenían cubrebocas, nuestros maestros usaban caretas y era así que se dificultaba la interacción personal. Nuestro foco de atención este año será superar esto y lograr causar un gran impacto. Conforme vamos avanzando, queremos deliberadamente hacer que nuestros alumnos y padres se enteren que estamos aquí por y para ellos. Estamos aquí para servirles, apoyarles, y más que nada, porque queremos que nuestros alumnos se superen académicamente.

STEM es en nombre de las siglas en inglés para Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas, en donde los planes de estudio brindan a los alumnos la oportunidad de imaginar, diseñar, construir, resolver problemas y colaborar con sus compañeros.

Para el próximo fin de año, podemos anticipar que todas las escuelas,

incluyendo la Preparatoria de Little Elm y las Primarias Lakeview y Oak Point habrán obtenido también su certificación de STEM. Además, el distrito recibirá su propia certificación, convirtiéndose en el primer distrito en el estado de Texas en lograr este nivel de certificación. Nos sentimos muy orgullosos de este logro, por lo que significa para nuestros alumnos.

Es por medio de opciones de aprendizaje como ésta que se hace muy claro que una mayor cantidad de cosas grandes como éstas van a seguir sucediendo en LEISD. Todos nos sentimos orgullosos del lugar en donde hemos colocado a nuestro distrito durante los últimos años, y de lo que me siento más orgulloso es de que continuamos luchando por tener una cultura en donde cada alumno ame aprender y cada maestro ame enseñar.

E

l ser padres de familia es una de las labores más difíciles, pero de las más gratificantes en el mundo. El Programa de Academia para padres del Distrito Escolar de Little Elm está completamente de acuerdo con este pensamiento.

Es por esta razón, que nos sentimos muy orgullosos del programa y de su continuidad por cerca de 15 años.

Muchas familias han participado y aún permanecen participando y disfrutando del programa. Sabemos claramente que hoy en día la crianza de los hijos requiere de muchos recursos y expertos en el tema. Por esta razón estamos continuamente buscando lo mejor en recursos y conocimientos para compartir con los padres de familia.

Entre estos recursos contamos con el marco teórico del currículo de Educación Práctica para Padres el cual se enfoca en

comprender el rol de padres, patrones de comunicación, estilos de crianza, autoestima, solución de problemas, disciplina, reforzamiento de habilidades académicas entre otros temas de interés.

Durante estos tiempos inciertos hemos aprendido muchas formas de mantenernos involucrados y es así que pudimos ofrecer video segmentos y sesiones por zoom con los padres en donde abarcamos temas relacionados a lo que estamos viviendo.

Cada año ofrecemos alrededor de 19 sesiones durante el otoño y la primavera.

arenting has been called one of the hardest yet most rewarding jobs in the world. And we know that it takes a village to raise our children. Little Elm ISD offers a family support service through the Parent Education Academy Program.

The District has supported hundreds of

families over the 15 years the program has been in existence.

Through this program, we provide several comprehensive resources and experts on various topics on today’s parenting issues. The District has a set curriculum from Practical Parenting Education as the framework for this year-long program that helps focus our efforts on understanding the roles of parents, developing communication skills, parenting styles, building self-esteem, dealing with life transitions, tackling discipline, and supporting academic success in the home.

Even though face-to-face meetings were limited, we learned different ways to stay connected to our families who needed support during these unprecedented times. Our goal is to continue meeting parents virtually to increase our engagement through screencasts and Zoom meetings – in addition to face-to-face meetings.

Every year, we offer approximately 19 sessions spread throughout the fall and spring semester. The first session will be on September 13. All the information you need will be posted on our website at www.littleelmisd.net/parenteducation.

* En el Concierto de UIL y en la Lectura a primera vista, tanto el Grupo de Vientos como la Sinfónica de Vientos obtuvieron el premio SWEEPSTAKES por haber recibido puras calificaciones de uno de parte de cada uno de los seis jueces.

En las audiciones de Todas las Regiones, realizadas en el TMEA de la Región 24, LEHS colocó a OCHO ALUMNOS en una de las Bandas Interregionales, más el nombramiento de DOS ALUMNOS como suplentes.

Además, de que SEIS ALUMNOS avanzaron hacia la etapa de audiciones del área. ¡LEHS obtuvo también el nombramiento de un alumno, Zeshan Farooq, para participar como trompetista en el grupo de Jazz Interestatal 2020-2021!

Solistas y Grupos de UIL - 20 alumnos de la Banda recibieron la clasificación de SUPERIORES como solistas.

13 alumnos recibieron la clasificación de SUPERIORES por su participación en grupos pequeños. 15 alumnos avanzaron al Concurso Estatal de Solistas y de Grupos de UIL. Al nivel de secundaria, el alumno de la Secundaria Walker, Colin Herrington y la alumna de la Secundaria Strike, Jadyn Struxness, llegaron a la etapa Interregional. Las Bandas de Honor de las Secundarias Walker y Strike obtuvieron un premio dentro de los otorgados por UIL en la clasificación de primera división tanto en Concierto como en Lectura a primera vista. La Banda Sinfónica de la Secundaria Strike obtuvo una clasificación global de segunda división. La Banda Sinfónica de la Secundaria Walker obtuvo la clasificación de Superior en escena y de segunda división en lectura a primera vista.

Este año, todos los concursos de UIL se llevaron a cabo y se calificaron de manera virtual.

Los coros de Bel Canto de las Secundarias Strike y Walker obtuvieron las clasificaciones más altas dentro del Concurso de Lectura a primera vista de UIL. LEHS: Ganaron 3 premios de UIL, 8 clasificaciones de excelencia, 19 clasificaciones de superior en el concurso de solistas y de grupos. 13 cantantes avanzaron hacia el coro de honor de TMEA de la Region 24, rompiendo así el record de miembros de LEHS que han sido galardonados.

ola, me llamo Sarah Merrill y me gradué de la Preparatoria de Little Elm en febrero de 2019. Durante el primer semestre de mi 12° año, me enteré acerca de la Academia Lobo que es un programa que ayuda a los alumnos a alcanzar el número

de créditos que necesitan para graduarse. Me aceptaron en el programa y después de un mes de trabajar durísimo y ser perseverante, terminé los cursos obligatorios que me faltaban para poderme graduar con anticipación. Estoy muy agradecida por la oportunidad recibida a través de LEHS porque esto me permitió tener el tiempo suficiente para explorar todas las diferentes opciones de carreras y encontrar así una especialidad en la cual enfocarme en la universidad.

En el otoño de 2019, inicié mis estudios en Collin College, un tanto cuanto insegura de qué carrera seguir.

Decidí enfocarme en obtener un título técnico en Ciencias y así me inscribí en materias como matemáticas y economía.

Luego inició el COVID cuando iba a la mitad de mi segundo semestre y, como muchos otros alumnos universitarios, tuve que darle un giro a mi experiencia universitaria.

Las instalaciones técnicas de Collin College se inauguraron en el otoño de 2020, lo cual me llamó la atención, y fue entonces que descubrí el programa de Técnico en Equipo Biomédico (BMET).

El trabajo de un BMET es garantizar que el equipo médico se encuentre en óptimas condiciones, ya sea por medio de un mantenimiento preventivo o respondiendo ante un aviso de servicio necesario. Algo que me agrada mucho de esta carrera es que me puedo enfocar 22

hacia diversas líneas de trabajo, tales como la radiología, anestesiología, seguridad cibernética, tecnología informática (IT) o llegar a ser supervisora de departamento, administradora, o directora.

Mi grupo, que consta de seis personas es el pionero de este programa. Nuestras clases son pequeñas, principalmente por la pandemia, pero no está de más decir que ha sido una gran experiencia.

Cada uno de nosotros tiene asignado un escritorio y una mesa de trabajo en el laboratorio, a la vez de un paquete de herramientas adecuadas.

Pienso que una de las cosas más formidables fue empezar a ver un gran salón, casi vacío, convertido en un hospital compacto. Hay una unidad improvisada de cuidados intensivos, quirófano y una sección para atender partos. Cuando algunos de mis compañeros y yo asistimos a la Exposición MD en Dallas, empecé a descubrir la enorme variedad de temas técnicos de cuidado de la salud que hay. Tuve la oportunidad entonces de interactuar con muy diversos profesionales de cuidado de la salud, quienes se especializan en tecnología médica. Fue muy emocionante aprender de ellos.

Me siento orgullosa de decir que en

la primavera de 2022, seré una de las primeras graduadas que obtenga un Título Técnico de Ciencias Aplicadas en la Tecnología de Equipo Biomédico de las instalaciones técnicas de Collin College. Me emociona pensar hacia
